Unfortunately, no: Even the remaining fragment has faded to virtually nothing meanwhile. For us, nothing will be seen. :bawl:

Let's look forward to the Geminid meteors instead!

Cheers!

These are bad news!  :bawl:

The good news are: today I've watched the sky... and I've seen a just new Crescent Moon with a nice hiper-shining Venus at its left!  :wOOt:

Whoa, that must have been the kind of sight that makes me do a reality check! I'm glad that you saw this and that you're able to appreciate it. :)

Did you notice any earthshine?

Cheers!

It was easy to see! The sky was really clear; the Moon, just crescent (very very tiny!), and Venus at its left, pretty far away but close enough to be seen in the same sight. Another beautiful image is only the Moon: it was so tiny that you could see the shadow of the not enlightened part, so you could really see all the circle, but only a little part enlightened. Beautiful indeed! :wOOt:

What do you mean by "earthshine"?

Dear Luth,

earthshine is a phenomenon occuring near new moon and described by some observers like this:

Quote
[The moon] was so tiny that you could see the shadow of the not enlightened part, so you could really see all the circle, but only a little part enlightened.

Near new moon you can see the nightside of the moon because the Earth is reflecting sunlight at the moon. The lunar landscapes are lighted up by the almost full Earth in the lunar sky - i.e. by earthshine. :)

Cheers!

When you're in the car, on the highway, and you see in front of you a long long shooting star, that's a special thing!! Xiquet and I have seen a shooting star while on the road. We had time to see something on the sky, wonder if that was a plane, deciding it was not, and saying out loud "What's that?", "Yes, it's a shooting star!", and even watching it fading away. Several seconds, for sure!  :wOOt: :wOOt: :wOOt:

Congrats! Must have been quite a big one when you noticed it from the car and could watch it for so long. :)

Markus, perhaps that photo (not mine!) can be a good example of the "earthshine"?

(I suppose it has been taken with a long shot...)

Yes, milady, that's it! Wonderful photo - it even shows the dark "lunar seas".

Thank you and cheers!

Here's another beautiful picture, which does not show the moon.

Enjoy and cheers!

Waking up so early is worthwhile from time to time... Like today, when I was waiting for the train, and I saw something up there, in the sky... Unluckily, the photo taken by my movile is quite bad, and moved, but it shows what I wanted to show: the very tiny moon, and Venus very near, and very very bright.

No Markus, if you see Venus as a crescent is not because it's a crescent (which it is, I know), but because of the zoom, my hand shaking and poor light made the photo to be very moved!  :nana:

My Photographic Evil Queen,

thank you for sharing this! Yeah, I know that this photo doesn't show so many details and that it's quite shaky. But still: You can easily recognise the crescent shape of the moon. It's blurred and there are at least two or three overlapping images of the moon due to the shaking - but you can still recognise the original shape. The same is valid for Venus!

That must have been a beautiful sight, hasn't it?

Cheers!

Hey folks,

earlier tonight I've seen Jupiter for the first time with my naked eyes - before sunset. :wOOt: So technically it was still in the day-sky.

My lunch-break in the late shift happened to be around sunset and we've had a very clear day. The moon has passed Jupiter just two days ago, so I could still use it as a guide. I simply tried when I took a short walk during my break, and there it was! This was the first time I ever observed Jupiter with the sun above the horizon. So far, I was only aware that this is possible with Venus. :)

Cheers!

Today, in my way home, I've seen an amazing vision... a double rainbow over the sea, really wide and clear. So clear that my poor camera from the mobile has been able to show it quite well! The train continued it's way, and three cities later, also above the sea, another rainbow, a lot smaller and fainter, and simple, but nice nevertheless! And, already out of the train, walking home, and not above the sea, I saw "the colours of the rainbow": only the colours, not the arch, but pretty clear, over the city.

Is there any superstition about seeing three rainbows (one double, one simple, and one not-rainbow-at-all) in only half an hour?  :nosweat: :yeha: :yeha: :yeha:

PS. The picture is from the first of the rainbows... of course, the natural was a lot more impressive, but you can imagine a little how it looked like.

PS2. There's a prize if you are able to see the hidden image in the photo!  :innocent:

Ha ha! Thank you for sharing the picture! It is beautiful  :hop:

Some time ago I noticed a wonderful double rainbow from my window and as I went for the camera to take a picture - in few seconds it was away!
But then again, who does.
