I cannot even imagine what you describe but I am glad you've seen this :) Must been a great experience.
But then again, who does.

Oh sure, it was!

You've seen every ingredient of it, Kris: A setting sun still blazing through very clear air, a rising moon in skies that are still blue, and also the rising night beneath the shadow of Venus. Here's a rather good photo of it. That evening, all of these common ingredients came together to form a truly magnificent sunset.

Cheers!

Hey folks,

have you ever seen the fireball of an Earth-sized hydrogen-bomb? I have just seen the Nova Delphini 2013. :yeha: I'm out in the cottage with my Dad. Unfortunately, the hazy sky is too moonlit to see this faint star with the naked eye and I had forgotten my binoculars, but Dad has a tiny pocket-monocular here which was enough to make the nova visible to me.

Cheers!

Yesterday night I went with Xiquet to a "beach bar" to have dinner and hear some live music (Bruce Springsteen covers). While eating, we were amazed by the moon: very low, just emerging from the sea, with a very dim light, intense red. As minutes and hours passed, the moon was more and more high, more and more clear and the intense-red turned to reddish-orange and, at the end of our stay, only yellowish-white. The firs minutes of the sight, when the moon was so low and red and dim, it was a fantastic sight!! In fact, not only us noticed, as I saw some of the customers pointing at the moon and telling their partner/s to watch.

A very nice sight!!  :yeha:

Congrats, my queen!

You've discovered something that rather few people are aware of: That a moonrise or -set may be as beautiful as a sunrise or -set. The distorted shapes, the colours ranging from deepest red via glowing orange and honey-hued yellow to pure white, the changing ambient light - it's all there, equally beautiful and yet few people ever notice. So, well done!

Cheers!

And looking around, I sometimes wonder what God has been smoking... :ninja:

Nah, the really funny thing about the photo and the explanation is that it's totally fake astronomy. A water sprayer, some smoke, some coloured flashlights. NGC 7841? This catalogue contains only 7840 objects. Several light-nanoseconds? Sure - that's several 30 cm.

And at a first glance the photo really looks like some cosmic nebula!

Cheers!

Today, going to the train in Barcelona, I noticed a super-brilliant Venus. Once in Calella, I've noticed a super-giant, super-yellow moon. It seems tonight the sky is asking me to look at it!  :wOOt:

Both sights are very powerful! I very rarely notice one of those phenomena with such a power, leave alone both the same evening!  :wOOt: :wOOt: :wOOt:

Thank you for letting me know, Luth! I'm happy to hear that these sights impressed you so much.

All of you skygazers should get ready for comet ISON, which is about to pass very close to the sun. If it doesn't crumble to pieces in the heat, it might emerge as an extremely impressive object.

Cheers!

I had to think of you these days, Luth,

when I saw Venus at dusk.  It's not shining anymore - it's blazing!

Cheers!

Sad news for all of you skygazers: Comet ISON has obviously crumbled and dissolved in the solar heat. :bawl:

This is the photo that taught me of these sad news.

Cheers, anyway!

I read today that we had to know something... but you've informed me before any Internet o TV news. Sad news, indeed!  :bawl:

Btw... I definitively don't understand the photo  :spock:

You can see the comet's tail and it's shockingly faint. Perhaps this animation makes it easier to see for you: The comet is entering the field of view, brightening - and then suddenly it fades. That's when it crumbled to a cloud of dust.

Cheers, anyway!

Yes, I now understand, thanks!

A real pity... I can't imagine... being travelling at work, where I see the horizon some time before the sunrise, and being able to watch the comet... it might have been marvelous...  :bawl:

This morning, I found the same information. If it survived, it probably won't become the great comet we've been hoping for - but still better than nothing.

Cross your fingers for icy ISON!

Cheers!
