Loreena McKennit - An Ancient Muse

The latest album... she is getting more perfect in style with each one! Also the instrumental section is reacher than ever! :wOOt:

Quote
Recorded at Real World Studios and featuring a host of acclaimed musicians, the album proffers a treasure trove of instruments, from harp, hurdy-gurdy and accordion to oud, lyra, kanoun and nyckelharpa (the Scandinavian keyed fiddle).

The song Caravanserai immediately became my favourite song of her, even before I read the booklet where it says that it was written on the way to Konya. I went there two years ago to witness the total solar eclipse! And I also learned that my second favourite song from her, Dante's Prayer, was written in a train across Siberia... I'm supposed to take that train this year in order to witness the next total solar eclipse. How many coincidences... creepy... :ninja:

I also bought her DVD - Live at Alhambra... it is a bomb. The songs sound even better live than in the studio! It is very professionally recorded, the camera zooms those instruments playing at that moment so that one can see and hear them at the same time! Nyckelharpa kicks arse, it is exactly behind Loreena when she plays piano. Also, the camera zooms the fiddler when Loreena sings "when the fiddler plays" in The Mummer's Dance! ;D

And I also bought the latest Ayreon - *checks the tittle* 01011001 ;D

What a bunch of great vocalists on the same album! :wOOt: Hansi just rulez... what a noble sounding voice. Anneke, Floor and Simone too. ^_^ It's interesting that the vocalists got special signs, marking their parts of the lyrics in the booklet! Hansi got the Celtic encircled cross, like that Vibeke used to wear ^_^, Floor got the Greek capital letter omega and Anneke got the heart! I wonder why.... you too wolfshade? :fish:

  a <3 for a <3  ^_^

btw this is not her first Ayreon guest appearance. She also sang on 'Into the Electric Castle' which is about few different people from different parts of world and culture
in electric castle. And Annie was Egyptian.  ^_^ There is a song from album -> Valley of the Queens (live in Athens)

Angel.

Sorry wolfshade but I'll have to disappoint you this time. That word is already reserved... :fish:

OHMFG!!!! She sings Bonnie Portmore damn it ....Hail Scotland!!!!

Loreena is infatuated with Celts. She speaks about them before every song on the DVD. Also the booklets are full of stories about Celts and all her journeys are actually motivated by Celts. She wants to visit all the places where the history documented that something involving Celts had happened. Even in Mongolia... She has set to music a lot of Irish poems and sang a lot of traditional Irish songs. Like this one...

Seriously considering buying this limited edition signed print (to go with my signed Sabbath albums  )

Full details here:  http://www.stpaulsgallery.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductsID=194

But I would really love to own this original by Greg Hildebrandt (the eagle-eyed among you will spot the E5150 connection)

Kamelot = Intruder.

Yes, because Kamelot is symphonic metal(:P) and Ensiferum and Eluveitie are not.

I can hardly stand their vocalist.

I'm also not very fond of Roy Kahn's voice, I think he is the weakest point of the band. But I like their music. ;)

"Somewhere Far Beyond" - Blind Guardian.

I found it secondhand. One of the first albums I heard of Blind Guardian, and one of the first of metal. I owe a lot to this band  :yeha:

Arrived today:
The Sword - Gods of the Earth

Also on order:
Iron Saviour - Megatropolis
Sword - Best Of (a different Sword to the one above, this lot from Canada were a class act from the '80s  :))
Cage - Hell Destroyer (as recommended by Aluqak - really looking forward to this arriving! )

I have become bored of most modern forms of metal and its sub-genres, and now I spend my time actively seeking out any quality metal band/album I may have missed in the 80s, or any current bands that represent that vibe.

Hail to riffs, solos and fist-pumping choruses!

Psst, be careful man. The first signs of aging are beginning to show

Ahem... last purcahse: Kalmah --- For the Revolution.
Just giving it its first spin, much more mature and settled down than their last albums. Promising stuff.

Next in my list: TestAmenT --- The Formation of Damnation

Judging by the songs I checked out on their myspace.. I'll love it!  Top quality recommendation

Next on mine too.. can't wait for this..  :wicking:  Where most of the other top thrash bands went shite, disappointing, or just a bit rubbish at one point or another, TestAmenT have always remained top quality throughout the many changing times of metal!  :evil2:

Amorphis - Eclipse.

I've decided to buy one (1) album from my favourite artists (Therion, Tristania, Nightwish and Amorphis) - so since Eclipse is my favourite album by Amorphis, I've bought it today  Also, I've ordered Beyond the Veil, since it's sold. And I still need to decide 'bout Nightwish and Therion (especially Therion, and that will be hard >.<)

I love Jon Oliva!  His voice IS the voice of metal, and this latest album of his is like having a brand new Savatage album.  It's fucking great!!    :evil2:  :ninja:
