The big problem is that, at that hour, I'm travelling by train. I can see the sunrise from there, but there's certain inclination to the horitzon and, with the glass window, it usually shows the reflection. Apart that it's not easy to take the picture while sitting in the train, with people looking at you with face "what is that (very young ) girl doing?"  :disgust:

Hi Kris!

I use the Sony Alpha 200, one of the cheapest, yet quite good, reflex camera

About websites... there are loads of them, and the ones I used when I was beginning to learn were mainly in Spanish: I looked for tutorials, PDFs with explanations about the characteristics of photography, etc. I can't recommend to you a particular website, but you can join any forum about photography and you'll learn a lot. There are forums only for the make of your camera, or forums about photography in general. I am in one (in Spanish) which has a sum-forum only for the beginners (The School). There you can post your pics and receive feedback, and give it to other's pics. It's a fascinating world   :spock:

Have you checked the map, Eresh? Are you living too far South to see anything?

Well, there's an even bigger event coming up for you.  :wink2:

Cheers!

LOL! Yes, I checked out the map and yay! found out it will be visible.

I also asked the National Astronomy Association and they said that yes, it will be visible from 4pm and that they will be letting us know where their partners will be located.

I guess they will have some kind of special equipment to view.

Markus, can't this be seen with the naked eye? Maybe when the sun is setting and the eye can bare more staring directly to it?

Huge halo around the sun! Haven't seen it because I am not sure if it can hurt my sight! I rather not :p

What a nice sight, Eresh! :) It won't harm your eyes - as long as you don't look straight into the sun but block it with your hand.

You're really not getting to see anything of the upcoming solar eclipse, but you might get a view of the lunar eclipse on the 4th of July - if you live far up North enough and if you have any nerve to look at the setting moon then...

Cheers!

Thank you Markus for the notice. I did not know there would be a lunar eclipse.

Next coming event is the transit of venus through the sun. I think it's this coming June 4-5.

There are so many events going on this year. But what is funny, is that everyone is freaking out about the Mayan prophecies. I personally, believe, that's a bunch of BS  :lol3:

Hey folks,

last evening I watched the sunset from my favourite sunset-watching-spot near our cottage. I found Venus quarter an hour before the sun would really set! Amazing to see it so clear and bright just ten days before the transit. :wOOt:

Cheers!

the weather will be cloudy and with a lot  of thunderstorms here ..so i think i will not watch it.. maybe online or just pictures .. :(  i was so looking forward for this event..especially since its not like i will ever get to watch it again.
It seems like the weather has gone crazy the past weeks. how about there?

Our Astronomy Society recommended some days ago not to try to watch the transit with the naked eye, nor sunglasses, nor smoked glass, or welding masks.

They said the best and safest way to see it either through internet images (boring LOL) or making a room dark and using a mirror to reflect the sun.

:-(

Hey folks,

sorry to contradict your astronomical society, but I strongly disagree. The best way to watch the event is to look at the sun - either darkened by atmospheric extinction at sunrise / sunset or through a special solar filter. Just the same filters that you might use for a regular solar eclipse or just plain sunspot-watching. The same filters that the astronomers are going to use themselves! :lol3:

The weather here is not very promising. That's especially nasty because we've had several sunny weeks. :fish: But I'll try, anyway. I still might getr lucky!

Cheers!

I also disagree with that. The filters used for the solar eclipse are good enough :)

Years ago some observatory was giving out these for watchers for the eclipse. I can't find it anymore though so I belive that if something is visible at all, I will watch it for few seconds with naked eye or sunglasses or via camera.
But then again, who does.

Kris, I don't recommend using the camera... your eyes might not suffer the effect of the extreme light, but the camera can. To make a photo of the sun is not an easy thing, as you must do the photo with certain parameters or the sensor can be severely damaged

I don't know if I'll be able to see it: I'm on the train at the moment of the sunrise, but I think that I'll be able to watch the sun when it's already too high... I don't know if I can see it only at the sunrise or when it's already higher  :disgust:
