Sirius, have you ever seen the 1968 year Rolling Stones´ "Rock & Roll Circus" film? There you can see Tony Iommi playing guitar with...Jethro Tull. Yes, it shocked me too.Hey JR, I knew he joined Jethro Tull for 2 wks, but I didn't know that it made it into that film! I'll have to check it out! (thanks for the info, I love all things Sabbath :) )
Last year, other (little) giant shocked me; Mr. Ronnie James Dio. I´ve never seen him before and his show was really powerful. I think that Dio is one of these real monsters of rock i´ve said before, don´t you think? His works with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath; his solo career...i can only say: chapeau!!!
And yes, you´re right again, i like going to concerts and i´ve seen very interesting shows..and i expect i will continue this weekend we have a double choice; on friday Graveworm, Communic, Numen and (i think that is confirmed) Ensiferum. And next day, saturday, Baron Rojo and Judas Priest. Noisy weekend
To date the best I have seen here in Canada are:Hey Aluqak, Slayer are so good live, that's a neat one to have under your belt! I saw them in about '91 on the same bill as Metallica, Machine Head & White Zombie. They were so ferocious! And I'm jealous you've seen Priest! Must have been the Painkiller tour? Great band.
2001 Slayer, Soulfly & In Flames
2002 Iron Maiden & Arch Enemy
2004 Dimmu Borgir, God Forbid & Necronomicon

And I'm jealous you've seen Priest! Must have been the Painkiller tour? Great band.Yeap, I saw Priest in their Painkiller tour. I knew them back in 1987 (Ram it Down)... and Wow! I couldn't belive it when I got tickets for that concert. I could also had the chance to see them here in Canada in their Jugulator tour, but Priest without Rob Halford wasn't Priest for me.
The Metallica/Anthrax gig in '86 was special, it was just before Cliff Burton died (R.I.P.) and he was such a cool performer. Thrash was growing up and it was happy times!
Let us know how it goes with Soilwork! :D
@ Sirius;Hehe, I'm aware of these, but haven't heard them. Perhaps I should try them out? :)
A few days ago, i discovered two strange records with Sabbath´s songs but...one of them played by an Estonian string band, (record´s name: String Quartet, Tribute to Black Sabbath). that reminds me Apocalyptica´s "Plays Metallica by four cellos" but more classical.
The other one, Sabbath´s songs as medieval ones; with medieval instruments and vocals; (the band is called Rondellus, and the record Sabbatum). All tracks are translated into latin (i think).
Curiosity; "a National Acrobat" is "Funambulus Domesticus"
You can find them easily in eMule.
cheers!
Hi ppl;Heya JR! Sounds great, you should give us a full review! :)
Coming back from zaragoza right now, where 9000 guys screamed and singed for two hours with the Priest. It has been a fantastic gig. Chapeau for the Priest ;)
(Sirius13 @ Today, 05:32 PM)
Man, what it must be to be in a band with that kind of back catalogue.
Heya Guys!Hey Eresh, that's a cool review! :)
I went to see Deicide...I won't say much because most of what I think you can find it at this live review I wrote myself:
EbM (http://enslavedbymetal.com/)
It's right on the front page, where it says "Latest Live Review".
September the 9th: Morbid Angel! \m/
There are no words to describe how unbelievably awesome, inspiring, and downright spiritual that show was.
If you miss the concert at your closest venue, throw yourself into a pit of rabid pit bulls, because you do not deserve to live!(just kidding) This was my dream concert. Our family has been waiting forever... Anyways, we took our 13 year old son with us to the House of Blues-Chicago, a very respectable and beautiful establishment (i might add). This was a VERY small club. PERFECT!!!! My son has been a Therion addict since he could talk, this was the most incredible experience ever. I put it up there with childbirth, wedding day, and of course some our best rituals. Need i say more?
Aluqak wrote: One more show, and one more post in this thread which is becoming a boring monologue.Oh my god! Not boring at all!!!!!!!! and about the monologue...i´m expecting december´s shows: Opeth and Morbid Angel are coming to Bergara...who knows, maybe i´ll be there
Hope you took your camara with you.
P.S.: BTW where's the indecent pic you promised us?
Today I will go see Paul D'ianno live. He was Iron Maiden's first singer and sang in Iron Maiden and Killers album. People are really expecting him to perform lots of the Killers songs more than his own music. I am afraid that if he doesn't people could get violent :unsure:Hey Eresh! D'ianno played here in town like two-three months ago but he didn't play many of the "killer" old Maiden songs. How did your went?
But wish me good luck!
Rumors say that Maiden will play here in october..... again :nana: (Guess who's gone be there?)
(very much Therion-related). Long, meditative songs, with my favourite Eastern rhythms and I felt that the meaning of the songs is worth a future studyHeya Lucy - sounds like you all had a great time! :)
My turn again :yeha::
Last night we had Blind Guardian and Leave's Eyes in town... and of course I was there.
Leave's Eye wasn't very good. I must say that my expectations were pretty low 'cause I don't like those kind bands... I mean, built around a female voice who thinks she is the best and who behaves like a diva when she's singing . Then, when you have a show of such a band with a bad sound (like last night),... well, you sat with your best friend and have a couple of beers in the meantime. And that was exactly what we did. Well, we cried aloud a couple of studid things to have some laughs:
Example:
Liv Kristine: So guys, what do you want us to play next?
Al's Friend: Immortal, play us some Immortal!!!
Real bussines began one hour later when BG hit the stage and the crowd got crazy.
The sound was wonderfull, and the band seemed very pleased. I think our town in now in their official "mandatory-cities-to-visit-during-the-next-tour" list. The setlist was something like this:
into the storm
war of wrath
born in a mourning hall
nightfall
fly
Script for my Requiem
valhalla
mordred's song
welcome to dying
time stand still at the iron hill
skalds and shadows
another stranger me
and then there was silence
-Break-
Imagination from the other side
the bard's song
mirror mirror
The order of the songs is surely wrong, but who cares. As you can see, there is only one song from their last album, and that made us very happy. It was a wonderfull night only shadowed by Liv Kristien's mic (pitch was to high and we are all half deaf because of it) and by the f*cking freezing rain that's still falling in out town.
One more show to go and 2006 will be over :yeha:
The order of the songs is surely wrong, but who cares. The reviews in this thread are not intended to be accurate ... they just a sharing experience.
If you had the time to read my post and find all those errors, you could have it to read this part too:The order of the songs is surely wrong, but who cares. The reviews in this thread are not intended to be accurate ... they just a sharing experience.
Great sound..and blood, blood, blood and blood everywhere. A soldier, Hitler/Jesus, a policeman, a junkie, George W. Bush and Pope Razinger bleeded for litres. Man! I reallly would like to see that show

Could you write Dimmu set list, I would like to know what did they play? I like their first 3 albums, don't like other albums much. There you go Offy:
Offy: I know you are gonna see Ensiferum in a couple of weeks, and if you get the same quallity (excepting for the sound of course) that I had last night, your money is more than well spent.
On Thursday I saw Heaven & Hell, Lamb of God and Iced Earth in Nottingham.
First up was Iced Earth - they were ok, and it was a good vocal performance from Tim Owens. I like Iced Earth, but overall I find them highly over-rated and a bit ...er.. dull. Stage vibe and presence was sadly non-existant.
Then there was Lamb of God - they had a longer set, which is a shame because I think they're extremely over-rated. The best bit was watching the mosh pit get into a crazy whirlpools, with a single solitary 'banger in the middle. I find the hardcore-ish vocals annoying. The performance was tight, but the songs are mostly shite.
Then we got the main act - Heaven and Hell - I was curious to see this line up again, I last saw them in 1992, and I wondered how it would all hang together now that they're so damn old! But I need not have had any fears, they are all still fucking excellent!! Dio is still a god! His voice was still up to all of this material, and he delivered a truly engaging energetic performance. Tony Iommi is, of course THE guitar god of metal, and he & Geezer Butler were on top form, as they have been every single time I've ever seen 'em.
The songs from this line up are so fucking good! They've stood the test of time so well, and make for a truly entertaining and varied set. The set list was shorter than on some parts of the tour (could've done with less Lamb of God!!), but it didn't matter, we got all the classics from the Dio era. One thing I forgot is just how good a drummer Vinnie Appice is, when it came to the drum solo I thought "oh, here we go, a drum solo..." , but it kinda swept me up and got fiercer and fiercer until it completely blew me away! Respect to Vinnie - he is a class act.
Set list was:
E5150
Mob Rules
Children Of The Sea
Sign Of The Southern Cross
I
Voodoo
Computer God
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
Die Young
Heaven And Hell
Neon Knights
I promise you an awesome Maiden review ...you just have to wait another three months that's all , but it ll be worthy hehehehe
yo yo yo
I guess that if you like bands like Nightwish, Leave's eyes or any other group built around an almost operatic female voice you might want to check them out... you will probably like them.
Offy: I know you are gonna see Ensiferum in a couple of weeks, and if you get the same quallity (excepting for the sound of course) that I had last night, your money is more than well spent.
W.A.S.P. gave a pretty good though bizarre show. The first part was "simply" the whole Crimson Idol album played with a dark ambience and a black&white film in the background. Both the film and the band's performace were very good. The second part was composed by some of their old good classics (L.O.V.E., Wild child, etc), it was very good, but too short for my liking. The weird part is that they were playing an Elvis show on the screen at the same time  . Seeing Elvis singing, with W.A.S.P. music in the background was simply  ing. Anyway, all in all, I had a wonderful time and it was nice to see that Blackie was still in shape ... and he's 52!
I'm not sure about the Elvis thing - it must have been a little bewildering  :wacko:It was indeed very strange... I'm still wondering if Blackie was doing a joke or what.
BTW: I have an "Animal Fuck Like A Beast" picture disc from the old days. Did they play that "classic"?No, unfortunatle they didn't play that one :bawl: ... Actually, this is where the "too short for my liking" from my review is applied.
Haggard played last week in Barcelona (nope, this time I didn't go), and the place where they played... it's really really small. Where Therion uses to play is not big, but Mephisto (Haggard's place to play) is even smaller... I can hardly imagine a very very very little orchestra playing there ¬¬
Well, well, well... now I'm more than eager to see all those guys live in a month here in Madrid :yeha:
Thanks for the reviews Sirius... Oh! do you remain the Priest setlist?
But what the heck, you don't have all those pyramids, crazy folklore and nice weather that have here ( ), so I guess that compensates quiet well for the classical concerts.
perhaps you could organise a solar eclipse over there so I can get to see that doubtlessly fascinating country. :)I'm on it man! I'll let you know when I find a proper date for that. :ninja:
Unquestionable fact: Kobi is the new Jesus. :ninja:
As you may know, I were there by my own, and I will never regret that! As some off man said, it's a fantastic experience!!!!
And the last one!!! Discicples of the Sacred Oath II!I love this song. I'm currently trying to fit some learning of it between my tight school schedule.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJfZfB7TJew (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJfZfB7TJew)
Well, it's the first one in which Kobi massively sings in Arabic... It's really a good song, and you can see it's fantastically played :biggrin:And I can in fact transliterate that part for you so you can sing along and sound like the chants from the mosques I hear in my neighborhood 4 times a day.
now I am the one who is envying you! Especially because the rumour goes that many of these songs will not be played live again for quite a while.Yep, that was Christopher said after the show. It seems that they won't be playing some of those songs live for a while. :(
What does "Play Video" mean in the setlist?Oh crap!... that's what happens when you copy-paste a setlist from another place and don't take enough time to edit it :nosweat: (I have corrected it now)
And what about Ginnungagap: Did they cancel after the intro due to technical problems and try again later? Or did they play the intro and then the whole song again? Or did the play the intro and then continue the song later? The song started normally, but after a minute or so (just when the drums kick in and the song really takes off) they had to stop it due to some technical problems with the drums (don't ask me the details, I don't know a thing about drums  ). They waited for a minute or two and then decided to play Lemuria, while the guys from the crew were fixing everything. Luckily for us, they succeeded and the show went on normally until the end. Oh! and they played the complete version of Ginnungagap afterwards.
AAAAAAAARG!!!!! Why am I in this side of the pond? :ninja:You're lucky enough to have Therion in your country this year ;_;
My plan for this year:
Thank you for sharing, Alu! I'm glad you had such a great concert. And "Mexico City" must have been big fun.
19. The Final Countdown
Budapest
You'll get to know my cat! :wOOt:
Awww, Luthy,
that point should be easy to get off your list. The Songs from Beuren are well known and very popular, so it should be easy to find a performance you can attend. :)
Good luck with finding one, enjoy it and let us know what it was like!
Cheers!
Markus
Last week, I had to made the painful choice between going to see Lacrimosa or Therion. And given that I got to see Therion in June and that I have never seen Lacrimosa live, I decided to drop our favourite swedes this time and go for the Goths. ... and I still cannot believe how lucky I got! :lol3:
If you don't know what happened last Friday here in Mexico City, go and take a look on the official forum (http://www.megatherion.com/forum/index.php?topic=4005.0). I wasn't there!
Not being screwed by a f*king bastard that call himself a "show promoter" is really cool, but that's not all. The best is that Lacrimosa played three show here, from Tuesday to Thurday. The first to shows (Tuesday and Thursday) were announced months ago and were sold out quiet quickly. The third show (on Wednesday) was announced only 4 days before... and that's the show I got to see.
We were only a few hundred people, I was close to the scene, the sound was great and the band look pretty relaxed. No big crowd, not pushing at the exit, no hysterical girls screaming at your ears, and enough beer for everyone. What else can you ask for?.... well, yeah, more beer.
The setlist was pretty competent and I must tell you that Lacrimosa is really a band worth checking out live!
Sometimes you just get too lucky! And I'm still laughing... man! :nosweat:
Gives up her plan to learn all lyrics - sigh
BTW, I'm having a scary idea... Muahua. Muahuahuahuahua-hua! :cht:
Cheers!

Actually, I realised that it's not good to know music pieces thoroughly well. I immediately notice the mistakes. :D
It's great to hear that you had such a nice evening. :)

Otherwise I never would have understood why Wotan is eagerly going for golden apples in a moment of despair or what Siegmund meant when he said that he'd rather stay with Hella than go to Walhall.
