My plan for this year:

Haha Saphira, my plan for this year is:

Ensiferum 28.9. Budapest
Amorphis + Orphaned Land 20.11. Ljubljana or 21.11. Budapest
Therion 7.11. Zagreb and 8.11. Ljubljana or 27.11. Budapest

I would like to see Ensiferum in Budapest in Wigwam again and AMORPHIS + ORPHANED LAND but that will be too expensive since I don't have any money  :'(

It's time to write about my concerts in March  :P I wanted to go to see Paradise Lost and Samael concert in February cause I missed Samael last year so now this was a chance + they played with Paradise Lost that I just recently before the concert started to like BUT then I read that Bloodhound Gang will be in Zagreb March 16th and two days after that Rammstein which I also wanted to see so this was a great chance to see both band and to stay a few days in Zagreb with my friends that study there so I decided to save money for Rammstein and Bloodhound Gang and to miss Samael again. And I have to say it was well worth it.

Tuesday - I went to Zagreb alone, brought my stuff to a friend's place, she lives so near bus station  :) Then I called deathdancer and we went to drink some beer since we hadn't seen each other for quiet some time. He escorted me to a concert place and I went in there alone and I have to admit it was somehow so relaxing, there all alone, I didn't have to think where my every friend is, where we will meet after the concert if we get lost in the crowd which always happens. I was sitting at the bar watching Inter VS Chelsea, talked to some random people and then went to see support band which sucked, some pop punk stuff and went to watch football again. When I noticed that lights went off I immediately went to a concert place which is separated from part where bar is. The crowd was awesome, there weren't so many metal heads, I hate when I go to metal concerts rude people that just come to get drunk and to push other people around. The crowd was great because everybody sang every song, there was so many people and still enough place to stand. They played my every favorite song from every album so I have to admit this was one of the best concerts I've been to. And they are so fun to watch and listen, they made fun of one guy that had Iron Maiden shirt, Jimmy Pop, lead singer was talking how good Bruce Dickinson is, how he knows everything, to drive a place, to fence... At the stage it was written METALLICA and then double crossed and below that Bloodhound Gang with smaller letters.

After the concert me and a few other people from Zagreb stayed to wait for band members. We managed to catch Jimmy Pop, he was so down to earth and so fun to talk to. He was talking how they were playing somewhere before Metallica and had that Metallica crossed at stage and how some guy from Metallica got mad. It was a really pleasant 10-20 min conversation. He also signed my booklet, he crossed everybody's face with X and put and arrow to point at his head  ;D They are one of 2 band with which I started to listen music back in 1998-1999. so I was so happy to finally see them live.

Wednesday - I went with my friend and her roommate which is also a great girl to some place where some local band played some Irish songs cause it was Saint Patrick's Day so I had a good time again.

Thursday - Rammstein day. Some other friends of my friend arrived from other town. Me and a friend's roommate had a ticket for stands (?) while others where in the first row in front of the stage. Those tickets that we had were cheaper of course and I don't mind cause I could see everything pretty good from up above. Actually I always prefer to be down there in the crowd but I had to experience this too and I choose good concert cause you have plenty to see at Rammstein concert. If you don't know what I am talking about just check you tube videos from last Rammstein tour. The concert was in new Arena in Zagreb which was built for World championship in handball that happened last year. The sound was great, the place was crowded and the fence that was between first row and stage broke so there were many security persons holding it and that's why I am glad I wasn't down there cause that was totally unnecessary, there was enough room for everyone and people just couldn't move down there. I hate that kind of crowds, if everyone backed one foot it would have been great and people could breathe but such is our mentality, just push other people, push everyone and you will be closer even there is NO SPACE AT ALL. Just hate that, I guess I could have wrote this at bitching topic.  :P

Friday - day after Rammstein we went to one place where they were playing 90s music, I enjoyed so much. We stayed and danced till 5 am I think. I usually do not dance so you can imagine how much fun I had. They were even playing songs from Bloodhound Gang, Rammstein, Offspring, Metallica, Prodigy and some trashy Croatian and some Britney, Madonna and such  ;D Great fun.  :)

Saturday - I planned to leave day after but they didn't let me go so i had to stay and we went to drink some beer at one place, nothing special but still pleasant and fun.

Sunday - I finally went home after I had a great time, I really really needed that back then after so many disappointments in life, to relax, to have some fun. I want to thank my mom for giving me money even she barely had any. I want you to know how great she is and how she always supports me when it's about concerts.

Thank you for sharing, Alu! I'm glad you had such a great concert. And "Mexico City" must have been big fun.

Yes, it must have been fun. They always have such big set lists with more than 20 songs!

I'm coming back from a two-weeks holiday in Canada, and wow, I had the chance to attend two wonderful shows.
First, me a some of my ex-lab colleagues got to see Rammstein closing Québec's Festival d'été.
The opening band for that show was Apocalyptica, and well, it was "interesting" -_- . You know, one of those shows where you like the first 2-3 songs, then your mind drifts away, and the last thing you remember is you talking about football with your nearest neighbour. Then, all of the sudden you come back to the real world and realize that Apocalyptica has a new singer that sucks-big-floppy-donkey-d**k and you start wishing for a quick end. The quick end arrives a few minutes later in the form of "Seek and Destroy" and the show finishes with you smiling.
Then, it was Rammstein time! Not much to add to what Offy already said: if you haven't see Rammstein live go and catch some videos on youtube and you will know what you are missing: a great show, with a wonderful sound and powerful visual effects.

Second, five days later, I went with my metal-friends watch Slayer + Megadeth + TestAmenT. Needless to say that when you have three of the big four back to back on the same stage, you are a VERY happy man :yeha:
TestAmenT was... well, TestAmenT! The band that will never ever disappoint you live. My only complain is that they only played 45 minutes :disgust:
Megadeth was actually good (I never was a Megadeth fan). They played the whole Rust in Piece album and some extra classic songs, which is the best you can expect from them  . However, the nightmare became true when they played "À tout le monde", which is probably the cheesiest metal song ever... AAAND it became cheesier when the crowd sang aloud with them
Anyway, in spite of that, I must say that they did grab some positive points in my personal accounts, and that overall, I pretty much enjoyed their performance.
Slayer was... well, Slayer! A tornado that goes for the throat and you'll never be the same again. As Megadeth, they made a special performance and played the whole "Seasons in the Abyss" album plus some classics. I would have taken 2-3 more of those classics but well, it was a great show anyway. My neck is still aching and my soul is sad. That was the last show with all my friends in Canadian soil in a looong time (two of them are moving away).

Hey Alu,

thank you for sharing! It's interesting that Apocalyptica was interesting. That confirms the image I had from their past few albums.

Glad that you enjoyed the other show so much! Don't be sad - be happy that you had such a great evening with your friends!

Cheers!

Hey folks,

tonight I heard the Carmina Burana live in the church "Nikolaikirche" in Wettin on the river Saale. They were performed by the Youth Choir of Halle and a small orchestra plus some solists that went under the name "Cantores minores". I only knew of this concert from two friends of mine, a young couple that sing in the choir. I went there and invited my father to join me.

It was a wonderful evening. Well, at first I found the orchestra too loud for the choir, and I was a bit annoyed that the solo tenor was only staring at his text-book. Besides that I found nothing to complain about, everything sounded very well.

But after the break they got even better. The tenor impressed me with a song where he had to go very high and then, within a few seconds, very low. He did that very well; so well that he would have forgiven him if he had sung with his back to us. The ladies in the choir impressed me with the strength and clarity of their voices, and especially my lady-friend went along so passionately. The second "O Fortuna" was just perfect; now the choir was able to cope with the orchestra.

They had to play a couple of encores. In one of them the conductor asked the audience to sing along a certain passage. Hardly anyone dared but I had been warned by my friends, so I was ready and sang along as loud and good as I could. (Sometimes you have to be reckless in your fun. :evil2:) Finally they played "O Fortuna" for the third time - still great, albeit not as perfect as the second - and I had to grin, grin, grin: My friends and I had talked about singing from the heart vs. reading off a book, and the guy was the only one who sang without reading now. He had the book down with ostentation and looked straight into the audience, mostly at me, grinning, grinning, grinning. That was fun - the whole evening was big fun!

Cheers!

Awww, Luthy,

that point should be easy to get off your list. The Songs from Beuren are well known and very popular, so it should be easy to find a performance you can attend. :)

Good luck with finding one, enjoy it and let us know what it was like!

Cheers!

I'm happy that you liked it, High Priest! :wOOt:

For first reading I thought that "albeit" was in German.

Indeed, a live CB with full orchestra and huge choir is a must-attend-to. When I heard it for the first time, it was simply unforgettable. I was amazed by the fact that they needed three persons only for percussion. I love those special and rare instuments, especially the tubular bells and the gong. Later I heard it with a smaller choir, and only two pianos, but still it was so powerful and it was able to "hit" me. Hardcore classic music fans do believe that it's a popular piece, so they don't like it out of pure obligation. Well, too bad for them. :nosweat:

I think that every year it's played in a opera house (not the one you and me know) here in Barcelona, in December... but it's very expensive, and I have to remember it with enough time... Some year I'll go, I must  :ninja:

Myladies,

Lucy, for sure it's a popular piece. Or so I thought - some people I talked to had no idea what the Carmina Burana are. My dad had no idea at first, either, but then he wikied it and proudly told me what he'd found out. Anyway, it's simple music - far from the complexity of actual classical composition - but so what? It's fun and it's a genuine piece of culture, so let's sneer at the sneerers! :evil2:

Luthy, perhaps you're able to find a "smaller" performance. Barcelona is such a big and important city, there should be something... But then again, albeit  expensive, the performance in the opera house may be an experience worth the effort. It's September now - are three months enough for your preparations? :ninja:

Cheers!

Last week I was at Heidenfest 2010. They played here in Ljubljana. Heidevolk were first band. They were ok, to me.. . from as much as I know them they sounded ok, played very short concert only 35 minutes or so. Vulgaris Magistralis was the last song, actually the most interesting song all their concert. Swashbuckle  were next, american thrash metal band. Too bad they didn't have a nicer sound. People didn't know them much too but they still made a show  with pirate costumes and lead guitarist had a very very beautiful guitar. Too bad I have no pictures of it. Best songs were Scurvy Back and Crewed By The Damned. Next were Equilibrium. the didn't impress me as I thought they will. The sound was good but somehow they lack something  for my taste..
Than Ensiferum  Finally bets part of the evening, awesome concert. You could really see most of the people came there just because of them :) They played Battle Song and  One More Magic Potion, Twilight Tavern  :yeha: Last were  Twilight Of The Gods but I didn't listen to them much.. we went home soon after Ensiferum as half of the place did.. Too bad for the last band. They played Bathory songs.
It can't rain all the time so put a smile on your face and proudly take another step.
