...And if you're in a heavily populated area... Especially if it's as wild as Maracaibo, expect to see loads of fireworks... And hear so many explosions of these you'll think WW3 has begun. :ninja:

I didnt read through all the posts in the topic, so maybe it has been mentioned before, but using google sky (sub part of google earth) can be very educational too.  8)

Hey folks,

I saw a wonderful sunset during my workbreak tonight: A red sun, half a degree (one solar diameter) above the horizon. The brilliant white pinpoint of Venus above it in the sky of the late date, shining even through thin clouds. And yet further from the sun a clear half-moon. So beautiful!

Cheers!

Tonight a beautiful crescent moon with a clear earthshine on its nightside is somewhat to the East of M45, the famous Pleiades. Easy to see with the naked eye, but even more beautiful in binoculars, where you can see the moon with some craters near its terminator - the border between day and night, light and dark - and especially near its Southpole, with its illuminated nightside and a dozen or so Pleiades, all in one field of view. Beautiful. :)

Cheers!

Oh, and by the way: Watch out for extra-colourful sunsets in North-America and Europe as a cloud of volcanic ash from Alaska drits eastward!

Cheers!

What? ... who made eruption without the mighty permission of our High Priest?  :disgust:
Anyway, the weather is rather sad and cold over here, so I don't think I'm gonna see something short of an extra-gray sunset :-\

A certain Mt. Redoubt did, probably when I wasn't looking for a moment. :lol3:

The weather here is very clear today, but I'm not sure if the cloud has arrived already or if it's still thick enough when it comes over here. I've seen some brownish haze today, but I can't really tell if it's volcanic ash. I'll keep my eyes open, though.

Cheers!

This is my first post and being a skywatcher myself, I thought I'd share a couple of items:

Facing north, circumpolar stars: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ragingradish/2733764988/sizes/l/in/set-72157604479643161/
Partially eclipsed moon, Aug/07: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ragingradish/2404818474/sizes/l/in/set-72157604479643161/
And since it can't all be darkness, moments before sunrise: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ragingradish/3164852568/sizes/l/in/set-72157604475279500/

Howdy everyone!  :insane:

Hi RagingRadish!

First of all: WELCOMEEEEEEE!!!  :welcome:

I wish you feel here like home... if in your home you've an infinite-killed zombie, ever-hungry fishy, some revolution now and then and such...  :fish:

Second: your pics are amazing!!! I'm sure you'll be a good friend of our High Priest, Markus Astronomicus. I can see you both exchanging your best pics  :lol3:

Have a niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice stay!!!!  :yeha:

PS. Btw... the last pic: is it snow? I live in the coast, and I know how hard is to see snow+beach. Double amazing picture!!  :wOOt:

PS2. Ok, I see it's lake Ontario, not sea... beautiful the same!!!  :innocent:
