One addition : it was flying with speed:  7706.6 m/s - 27743.8 km/h - 17239.2 mph  :o :o
But then again, who does.

It's gotta be so fast lest it drop from the sky. But up there you wouldn't notice that speed - as little as you notice the 30 km/s with which we are all travelling around the Sun. :)

Hi folks,

the night from Saturday to Sunday might well have been the brightest night of this year here. The sky was very clear, it had been steel-blue all day long. At true midnight there was still a lot of dusk=dawn to the North - you can clearly see that we're close to the Northern summer solstice. On top of that was the bright light of the full moon. It was so bright I could not see more than three stars in the little dipper, but it was natural light so it was really beautiful. :)

Cheers!

We had a very yellow moon yesterday :) and today there was another flight of ISS. But I found out late :(

Yeah, the moon tends to hang very low these days in Europe. On Saturday it started out very low, too, and had a wonderful honey-colour, but later on it crept high enough to shine a silver light. :)

There are many visible passes of the ISS right now, up to five per night! So check your websites and you'll easily find more chances.

Cheers!

I'm kinda upset, should be falling Perseides but it's cloudy and supposed to be cloudy for other days (nights more likely) too :(
But then again, who does.

Awww, don't be too sad, Miri! There will be other chances to get a lot of meteors. For instance there are the Geminids waiting in December, so you don't even have to wait until next August.

Cheers!

It's always cloudy when the meteors are falling. :( I never experienced clear sky with such chances :( I wonder where the hell are the astronomes are making the observations when it's always cloudy   :mad3:

Nah, sometimes you'll be lucky, Miri.  :wink2:

Oh, and you don't need a meteor-stream in order to see shooting stars! You get a couple per hour on each clear, dark night. So next time the weather is fine and the moon does not disturb, go out to the darkest place you find, lie on a blanket and look up into the sky. You'll feel like getting lost between the stars, and you'll get to see meteors as well.

Don't forget some hot tea and perhaps some titbits to eat.

Cheers!

Hey folks,

this morning we had clear skies. I saw Orion, Taurus and Gemini... When you see the winter-stars just before dawn that's a clear sign of autumn approaching. And I saw a wonderful lunar crescent, unusually high in the skies, very thin, and the nightside strongly illuminated by earthshine. What a sight!

Look tomorrow morning as you might see an even thinner crescent. That's beautiful to behold - and for the Kuwaitis among us it signals the last days of Ramadan.

Cheers!

Orion  my favourite. I like it because it's mainly to see from my window during wintertime and I always felt it as a great warrior watching behind my back!

Ey Markus!

This morning, Xiquet and I (not together) have seen the unusual clear descent too! I notized no Orion or anything else than the Moon, but it was really beautiful  :wOOt:

Markus, is it true that the emblem of Subaru shows the Pleiades? :)

It is :) I think that the name Subaru even is derived from the name of the Pleiades cluster :)

I miss the Hungarian lang a lot. Hopefully this year will be able to join Finnish and Hungarian courses on the phil. faculty. It should be for free.
But then again, who does.
