Hi there,

this means that we have to teach Luth some more words to astound her English teacher with. Remember "booze"? That one did quite well. Any suggestions? Sirius, any idea?

Cheers!

Errrmmm... Coming back to the original subject:

Today I start English classes again. MAYBE I try to obtain the First Certificate this course (not this year  :shifty:). Let's see how my English-killing goes  :ninja: .

 :nana:

Hey Luth.   Let me know if I can help you in any way.  If you have a mic, I can give you pronunciations over MSN   :)

Hi friends,

@Eve: yes, I have a mic, I only have lack of... time! Even so, I want to chat with you via msn with mic some day. But... I don't know about if it'll be useful for my First Certificate studies... you know, the teachers are all ENGLISH men, and you know how they are with the ENGLISH (not American) pronunctiation.

Right, Sirius?  :ninja:

@Markus:sure, teach me weird words to  the teacher. With some luck, he'll kick me from the class!  :nosweat:

I see Luth.  This is true.  The British English and American English way of speaking sound different.  Some things are even spelt different...   color:  colour...   labor:  labour...   and so on.  Okay, someday soon we will set up a little time to talk with our mics.  haha   I think we will be laughing a lot.

Eeerm... back from my first class this course, and I've discovered that... I've been promoted

Teacher decided I can be in Advanced class (yes, the same teacher than the year before), and noone told me until now.

I haven't even done the First Certificate exam yet  :ninja:

Congrats, my queen!

This shows us, by the way, that you ought to spend less time practicing English and more time on NTSMS.

Oh, and lacking any better examples I suggest you to drop the word "therionise" in that course to demonstrate how well you mastered the possibilities of word creation in English. (Weirder stuff to come.)

Cheers!

May our Queen start the English genocide in advanced levels! :wink2:

I didn't know that  Anyway... I'm practising English my own way: reading! I started Carlos Ruiz Zafon - "The Shadow of the Wind" (should ring a bell for Luthy) and until now, I love it!!!

Oh, and congrats for your promotion, oh Queen! You deserved that. Muchas felicitaciones.

Thanks Tequila!

Are you reading Zafón in ENGLISH?

Why don't you try to read something originally written in English?  :disgust:

Absolutely true!

Before entering forums and chat in English, my English was REALLY killer! (ask Markus or Eresh, who know me from the beginning!). If I am not at Advanced (  ) it's 95% fault of Therion forums and chats.

You're all my teachers

I bought the book in Israel, my dearest Queen. I'd like to read Zafon in Spanish (must be beautiful) but didn't find it.

Luth in an advanced English Class!!... man, something is worng in this world, or may be it's just a strategy of his ancient teacher to keep his class clean of booze ?
Anyway, congrats oh mighty Queen of the English Killers for your promotion!

Hey Livi! to find books in Spanish here in Canada I usually do two things: Amazon, and/or friends with access to the university's library. Any university teaching languajes MUST have some books written in their original languaje.

To impress your teachers, recite to them this traditional English verse:

The boy stood on the burning deck,
Picking his nose like mad;
He rolled it up in tiny balls
And flicked it at his dad.

This will ensure that you are held in high regard in your class.

If for some inexplicable reason this fails to impress, call the teacher a "grade A tit".  Please note proper usage is to shorten it simply to "grade", leaving the recipient to remain uncertain of the precise nature of any insult, or indeed uncertain of whether or not they have even been insulted.   Please note that this is extremely advanced English usage.

Got that you grade?!

Next lesson:  Correct English usage of the term "Med" (nothing to do with the sea or with medications)

Good Lick with your exams!

...also you could astound them with your knowledge of cockney rhyming slang!

Here are some examples taken directly from Wikipedia:

Apples = apples and pears = stairs — e.g. "Get up them apples!"
Barnet = Barnet Fair = hair — e.g. "What’s the matter with your Barnet?"
Jam = Jam Jar= Car e.g. "Where are the keys to my Jam?"
China = China plate = mate — e.g. "He's my China."
Frog = frog and toad = road — e.g. "I was crossing the frog."
Rosie = Rosie Lee = tea — e.g. "Have a cup of Rosie."
Thrups = thrupenny bits = tits — e.g., "She's got a nice pair of thrups."

But this is the important bit:  To show them your advanced level of English, you can reveal that you know the one secret that all English people share in respect of cockney rhyming slang:
All people who use it are a bunch of merchants (merchant bankers)
