Another kind of storm, Kris? More earthly, with non-meteoritic material falling from the sky?

Nothing spectacular here but at least I saw something. It's quite cloudy here, too (plus city- and moonlight) - but there was a gap in the clouds which allowed me to gaze for a while. So in a comfy lawn-chair on the famous priestly roof-deck I counted four doubtless Draconids within quarter an hour or so.

So if there really has been an outburst - and so it seems because that's an unusually high number of shooting stars under these conditions - I can at least say that I've seen a little bit of it. :)

Cheers!

It's great You saw at least something. :)

Here is completely cloudy sky since Wednesday so I could not see anything.
But then again, who does.

Yeah, I'm pretty glad. Sorry you didn't get to see anything. :( Perhaps you'll be more lucky with the Geminids in December. :)

Cheers!

This one is for You. Though it doesn't really fit the topic's name! It's... WHEN YOU HEAR THE SKY!

Lovely finding, Kris! Are we sure that the sounds haven't been edited / modified? Sounds so much like strange modern music... But pleasantly so! Somehow quite calming.

Look outside right now and you can see Jupiter in the sky, weather permitting. :)

Cheers!

I think particular is original.... though there are some videos about which I got a serious doubts... Anyway. I am downloading the "original" NASA CDs right now and I found after some time a very expensive (for me) box set of 10 CDs and some extras - for 160 USD.

I am definitely going to buy that. I need more SPACE. I definitely need to calm down   I am so tensed and upset in last time...
Buying the box set will wait after Christmas... so far I hope I will be fine with those 5 CDs I am downloading.

Wish I could. But we have grey smog mixed with fog for at least a week already and it's so strong You can barely see few meteres in front of You sometimes. :(
But then again, who does.

Oh my... it's not so calming anymore when you forgot that the video is running and start the computer. I was thinking "Hell, the hard disk is about to break - or is it 'only' the fan? :afaid:" Then I went "Oh, wait... umm... :lol3:"

Enjoy those CDs, Kris! Five of them sounds like a lot of space for the time being.

Cheers!

I got the music few hours ago.

There's one "song" called simply "Space Sounds Music" - it is mix of all those together - possibly the "most interesting sounds". It's pretty awesome I have to say. I spent few minutes crying when listening to part of the song. The tears came out and I simply even didn't know why :)
Please don't laugh at me. :) But I just felt like telling to someone and I guess NTSMS is possibly the only place I can tell. No one else except my ex girlfriend Hana would understand it :)

Congrats, Kris! And sure I understand. I mean, those recordings are one way to watch the skies, and that's always something that may bring up a tear or two. :)

Cheers!

Did You know that ESA launched 2 Galileo satellites? :-) It's pretty cool programme! It's not supposed to be just passive navigation system like American GPS but it's planned to make it active so in future in case somebody needs help his watch or cell phone should be able to communicate with the satellites so the rescue knows precisely where to search and also let know the person in need that they are on their way!

Hey folks,

Kris, that's a cool plan indeed! Too bad it's been delayed so awfully, but it's good that they're getting on with Galileo at last.

Do you see the moon outside right now, standing so close to bright Jupiter? What a lovely sight! Watch the moon growing full - for at the next full moon there is going to be a total lunar eclipse. :wOOt: That will be next Saturday, the 10th of December. Only a part of it will be visible from Europe or Canada, though, and Southern America gets nothing at all this time - sorry, Eresh. The Europeans get to see the end of the eclipse at moonrise (which is at sunset at that day) while the Canadians get it at moonset (sunrise). See the NASA map or your local media for details and ask me if you don't understand it all.

Enjoy and cheers!

Thanks a lot for the info, Markus! :-) I would possibly missed that. Well, still I guess it will be cloudy anyway as always :-) But let's give it a try.

Searching for info on Czech observatories' websites I came upon astro events for next year and I've been horrified by certain one! I have only one chance and then... 115 years nothing! I will have to start praying for good weather since January!

That must the transit of Venus on the 6th of June, Kris. Venus will already be in front of the sun as the sun rises, so we won't get to see the ingress. But then again that would be such an amazing sunrise that it's probably worth losing the ingress.

Luckily I've seen the previous transit of Venus in 2004, so at least I've seen one of those in my life. Of course I hope to add the second one to my list, too! A good place to start reading about it is the TOV2004 page on the NASA eclipse website, of course.

Cheers!

Well, it was cloudy and we had a very high horizon in the mountains. So... I saw only the end - only shadow on the moon and very small. No part of eclipse. Still it was very nice ;-)

But the eclipse is nothing but a shadow on the moon, so basically you saw what there was to see. :)

I caught a pretty good view and will post a short report tomorrow.

Cheers!

I mean - there was no... eclipse shadow (like a black part).. I can't really explain - there was another kind of shadow, I don't know how it's called in English... It was the end of umbra - turning penumbra - so it was really like a shadow on the moon - like if there was a cloud on it or something but it was not black.
