The Wonderful World of Role Playing
« on: February 14, 2007, 07:23:18 pm »
Nothing kinky here. No, really, nothing kinky.

I was wondering how many of you, if any, play or have played role-playing games. By that I'm not inquiring about the nature of your bedroom shenanigans, but about pencil and paper role-playing games.

Alright, stop your giggling.

I've been playing for - what - four years now? Which maybe isn't much compared to some people, but I'm young - not as if I've had a chance to play longer. Mostly a DM/GM/Storyteller/Marshall/Shogun/whatever.

So shy'ah. Anyway. Got anything to report?

Hi,

I have never role playing...but I know a lot of people who did and I find it interesting. I always like to think that one day I'll try that...

But for the moment I only play them on computer

I also know some friends who take part in live action role-playing games.... ever tryed that ?

Computer RPGs are really just... not RPGs. The role playing factor, kinda important in a Role-Playing Game, is minimized to the point that every game could be called a role-playing one, because you always play the role of the main character.

Besides, the freedom of doing whatever you damn well please is kinda lost, and its always more fun if you can kick the DM between the ribs when something goes bad for you.

LARP? No, I've never tried it, though I'd like to see how it works. Events like that are usually organized somewhere on the other side of Croatia, so it's a bit of a problem getting there. Not that Croatia's a big country. I'm to blame, I guess.

Yeah, I play RPGs. . . not often, but my bro and I do when his friends come over.  He DMs. . . he's pretty serious about it, knows all the rules and such.  I would play more often if I had some friends that did so. . . but alas, my nerd-ish tendencies must remain dormant. . .

Your brother is older or younger than you?

I'd recommend giving in to your geekishness.

*Geek*. *GEEK*. Not nerd. Nerds don't play RPGs. We don't let 'em. We beat 'em up. Geeks can beat people up. Especially nerds, because they're weaker than we are.

My bro's older than me. . . what of it?  You wanna start something is that it?  WELL GUESS WHAT!?  I'm KEEPING the dog!!!!

Geeks are pretty cool. . . but nerds can outsmart them. . . generally using scooby snacks.

Keep the dog. You preferred the warmth of its caress more than mine, anyway. Take the bitch and don't come back! *I'm* keeping the house.

Hah!

Common misconception. In reality, nerds are used as doormats, spoons and light drugs in polite geek society.

Well, I recently became addicted to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Damn! It's a great RPG, very addictive, lots of stuff to do. Highly recomemded, and should run on most computers. (There's also an XboX version)

You're a nerd? In that case, by definition, all your bases are belong to me.

Ooh, yeah. I don't usually like computer RPGs, but I worship the ground on which KotOR treads. Did you play the first part?

Light or dark side? Or are you walking that fine line in between? :)

I've not played the first part yet, but I think I will after I finish this one. I'm playing as a follower of the light side, slashing droids and other pests with two lightsabers.

Yeah, two lightsabers dominates.  That's what I did, then I bumped up my attacks per turn, and invested into speed heaps.  Techinically I should've had, like, 8 or 10 attacks per turn.  .  .  but I don't think I did :-P.  Umm. . . I guess that's all I have go say.

Took me a week and two days to beat. What I'll tell you again, it is really addictive.

I thought exactly the same. I'm not that role-playing kind. :)

Nighthawk or Iron...... why do I have the slight feeling that you've started a certain "conspiracy"?  :shifty:

I'm on the lamb but I ain't no sheep.

@Lucy - I don't think VladH meant that you shouldn't role play or that you couldn't - what he wanted to say was, just be yourself in the sense that you should choose a character that is closest to who you are. You still need to role play, like you do every day, to ensure you stay true to the character of the, um, character you're playing :)
