Hello folks,

I hope You won't be upset for this political topic... but in last time I started to be interested in politics again a lot. The reason is easy - now when we (meant Czech Republic) preside at EU we made (well, the social democrat Paroubek) our cabinet fallen. So technically we do not preside anymore... It's big problem around here - the stupid communist idiot could wait the resting 3 months until our presidency ends. It's international shame also. Now I can see so easy what can made when people are not going to vote in elections, etc....

That's why I made this topic. Most of us or maybe all live in Europe and in EU also. So it's our stuff to take care what's gonna happen in next days, months and years. We can influence that at least a bit with the elections.
Now I am gonna give a big part of time to study all programs of the European parties and such.... Because I want my vote to be purposeful and strong.
Because there are MP's from all EU countries and everyone knows mostly just that ones from its country we  can give to other ones worth information about the other MP's from different countries - or more precisely just info which are good ones (the lesser evil).

Heya Mirjam. Unfortunately, I cannot vote. As I am not a European citizen.
I say unfortunately, because here in Spain the right-wing party (the Popular Party) is leading the polls for those elections, which is a shame giving the quiet retrograded and stupid visions of its members.
Clue: former Spanish president, Aznar, was from that party and he joined our dear G.W.B in the Irak war.

So well, now you know the Real Spanish Evil . The others (PSOE and other parties)? Well, from my point of view (one from who's still seeing the problems from the outside), they are just plain uncapable idiots.

May be our Queen can give us some more light on all this, but from my side I have come to develop an alergy to those PP guys... in only one year!

Allergy is a rather soft word... If PP wins again, I'm considering going abroad for so long as it lasts... let me say... perhaps to the Antartic or the Sahara... 

PS. I'm happy you have such an allergy. If any member of this forum says PP is great... I'll be forced to kick him/her out of here and into the Space

Politics are a dirty and slippery ground. As long as they don't mess with me, I don't mess with them.
Here, my (perhaps) only argument. I'm not a man of politics, but I am of legal age to vote in some countries, like Ecuador.

Hey Miri,

an interesting topic!

Of course I will vote. First of all I'd hate to see any rightwing-extremists scoring high just because too few citizens participate in the elections and thus give more weight to the extremist votes. Secondly I want to use my right to influence the upcoming politics. Thirdly I want to keep the right to bitch about the politicians - if I don't vote, how can I rail at them later on?

You hit the right point - the point which is problematic the most around here - people still rail at our politicians but 50 percent of them weren't voting in last elections. (and that's why the f........... socialists are so powerful now   )
And of course - we have problems with extreme rightwinged ones too - especially in last 2 weeks.

of course I voted today as well. My whole family did. No matter how you judge the outcome: Germany doesn't send any rightwing-extremists to Strasbourg.

That's great news! But how come you already know that? I thought it's possible to talk about the results after 10 pm.

Hey Lucy,

in Germany the polling stations close at 6 p.m., and the first results are published a few minutes later. At first they publish predictions, and as soon as certain stations have been counted extrapolations come out.

Yes, it's the same here, the only difference is that the voting ends at 7 pm. But I've read somewhere that everybody would have to wait until all votings in the EU end... but I'm not sure now because I can read our pre-calculations everywhere as well... I'm a bit confused, but anyway, it doesn't matter.




(Rightwing victory, as foreseen, but at least not the extremists. )

Hey Lucy,

each country sends its own delegates to the European parliament, and thus the national results may be known before the last countries close their elections. And obviously they may be published before the final stations close and before the common results are known. At least they were published shortly after 6 p.m. here.
