I will, oh Regina Mea Mala.

BTW, when I was practicing the lyrics to "O Fortuna" I realised what a cool opener that is:

"So at this hour,
Without hesitation,
Pluck the vibrating strings!"

And now I'm off. :wOOt:

Cheers!

So here I am, sitting there with some French red wine bought specifically for this occasion, giving the new album my personal first spin.

Strange - this is the first time that I don't get the lyrics of a Therion song and probably won't ever be able to sing along with it. What can I say about the music? It's totally unexpected, something I wouldn't ever have expected from Therion. But it's darkly beautiful, very atmospheric, and you can hear the Therion in it.

So actually this is just another typical Therion-album, isn't it? Unlike all the others before it, rejected by quite a few fans, and still audibly Therion.

Also I think this one is designed to give a lot of space to the voices of Lori  and Thomas.

Cheers!

to be honest, we can look for them in the internet ;) e.g. original one to  Poupée de cire poupée de son. Let's find them all :)

Je me dis à quoi bon

ps. 2 days to Therion concert!  :hop:

You know, come to think about it...
Therion just covered the French precursor to "Barbie Girl" from 40 years ago. It's scary.
"Poupée de cire,  Poupée de Son" roughly translates to "Wax Doll, Doll of his".

i wouldnt agree on this part, since the poor devils who "sing" barbie girl would not be able to sing that song.
they are also not able to make any music or play any instrument, they only get computers beat some kind of silly rhythm.

that's imo the difference between music and non-music.

I'm talking just about the underlying concept of women as dolls, not the actual music.

i see, Jorge. Well, about the musical quality there can be no doubt, I guess. And the lyrics? I daresay that the Waxdoll lyrics are much more sophisticated than the Barbie stuff.

about the lyrics, i think (haven't checked them all yet) that is it somehow oriented towards an idea of how to provoke people with songs that are dumb on purpose, like for example summernight city, with equally dumb words, and imo the old covers of scorpions or accept songs aren't much better either.

like baudelaire, for him that collection of poems was pure provocation for his readers, and no surprise a bunch of poems was banned in france for half a century or so. it was something that really hurt the taste or feelings of the time, but now it is consdired fine art and no longer a taboo.
now this album was maybe supposed to have the same effect, and the choice of gainsbourg, who was a delicate provocateur in all the artistic things he did, fits in this frame quite perfectly.

think about les succettes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_sucettes
in the original, the girl (who was 18, so no longer a kid) had no idea she was singing about blowjobs.
in therion's version, it is even sung by a boy.....  :lol3:

Yeah, kinjarb,

I've stumbled across the same story. The girl was wondering why so many people wanted to see her show. I've even seen a short video sequence where Gainsbourg asks her to explain the lyrics of "Les sucettes" to him. She replies by repeating the obvious content, how a little girl likes the lollipops she gets for a few cents. "And that's all, isn't it?"

She was so pissed upset when she finally understood.

Umm, has anyone told Lori...?

Cheers!

Again, the idea that the album gave me of hedonism and eroticism surfaces once again... Obviously in a much more sophisticated manner than this century's dollification of women in Pop music. :ninja:

Curiously, just yesterday I was playing the album, when I realized that this particular song is sung by Vickström, the only male singer in Therion right now. And I though:

Well, the song is sung about "Annie", not by her. Thus, any guy singing it isn't put on the consumer-side of this special kind of sweets-industry but rather among the, well, suppliers.

Therefore I strongly disliked its performance by a choir of middle-aged, medium-bellied men. :fish:

I translated the lyrics from French, and the transation provided was very... eeehhr... awful is a strong word enough?    Even so, I think the singer is the consumer... but I can re-retranslate it again. Perhaps another software better than Google Translator?  :nana:

Nah... it doesn't matter. This song is simply for fun, a "divertimento", no need to think further

I know a bit of French so I could sing along.. but until now I listened just to a couple of songs and they don't impress me.. Beautiful voices, very atmospheric as said before... But to me this doesn't fit right now, I'm too much into some other stuff.. I will give it a try some time later, when I get out of this loop hole of death/thrash metal and Joe Hisaishi's masterpieces...

Plus, the art work is just ewww   I really don't like it...

I actually find the artwork to be very fitting of the album idea. And well, it's pretty hot.
Just not something I'd show my parents.
