Foreword to Queen and the Priest:

Hello, I started to study Hungarian language and to it is connected also culture. I will need some help from Lucy and now when I am going to meet the Hungarian culture a bit more - I would love to chat about it with Lucy too :)

I didn't know exactly where to place it and even though this branch of the forum is supposed to be Czech I decided to place it here, I had several reasons for it:

a) it's bit isolated cause it's placed in the Czech branch (how many members and guests do speak and read Czech or Hungarian?) - so that will automatically make a natural choice of the readers - they will see the name of the topic and choose if they are or aren't interested.

b) I do not suppose there are to many of You - the permanent readers who would be interested and also would understand the language speech we are going to solve here - but You might be interested in the culture topics we are about to discuss if Lucy will have time and will want of course (cause I do this yet without her knowledge, selfishly presuming she's going to help me  :lol: )

c) Hungary and Czech Republic are in my honour opinion strongly connected so let's take it like some Centra European reciprocity :)

- so I please You - don't be mad at me that I placed it into topic what is supposed to be only Czech spoken. :)


To Lucy:

You know what led me to create the topic? I switched on the box today and now there's running a Hungarian/Brittish coproduction movie The Secret of Moonacre, directed by Gabor Csupo.

I like it a lot! I supposed it's gonna be stupid and childish but it's wonderful quality and so ... nice and deep! Have You seen that?


Another question is connected to the book which is supposed to be released (or already is) by Krzysztof Varga and it's called Guláš z Turula in Czech - and Gulasz z Turula in Hungarian.
Have You heard of that book - what's being said about it in Hungary (cause it's supposed to be about it). He's Polish after father and Hungarian after his mother. He's a journalist. I am going to buy it and read it cause it's a new interesting topic in here - nobody writes about Hungary.

And what is Turula?

The book also seems interesting, but I'm sorry, I know nothing about it. :blush: I'll keep my eyes open.

Turul is one of the totem animals of the old Magyars, a mythological predator bird that looks like a huuuge eagle. Take a look at the Hungarian Wiki article, because there are more pictures, and you can also read it in English and Czech.

It's just a fairytale - not something extra but as a tv fairytale-movie it's fine. It's based on a novel "A little white horse" - if I am not wrong. That's quite famous, haven't read it yet... though.

Don't be blushy :) You cannot know about everything what's up  :lol: I just wanted to know - in case You heard of it or such.

Oh, thank You!! Now it makes some sense. Whole the time I was wondering what is Turula  :fish: Didn't get that it has a suffix - because it's of the words which sound like (even in Czech) that the ending "a" belongs to the whole name. :blush:

It must be some Polish suffix maybe... Or the sound of the harder L. I like the way how Slav people pronounce that. :)

I don't like the hard L that much  :lol: - I mean the Slovakians have "soft" L  it's written something like this Pal'o. And it's something liek when You put soft sign after some letter in Russian language - and that's actually one of the parts of Slovakian language I like - otherwise I do not like it much. It reminds me of child's speech who cannot pronounce ř, s, ď... etc.  :D

How the Hungarian L is pronounced? What's the difference to Czech pronunciation.

I have noticed very interesting thing in the myth about Emese's dream - will write about it later cause in 45 minutes we are leaving to meet our friends. And I need to search more about it. But it's connected to different myths of another old ethnics - the arctic ones. I have to do proper search on it :) And then inform my professor from last year from the Myths lessons - I was supposed to have it obligatory this year but I did it already last year  :tongue: :D
