Hi folks,

we're having a thaw here, including some rain. I find this more uncomfortable than frost, but it surely is time for spring to come near.

Cheers!

Hi folks,

right now it is creepily stormy here: Torn clouds, eerily lit by the full moon, are racing over the sky, driven by the storm "Xynthia". On my roofdeck a few plants have been blown over, and the plastic table is lying upside-down besides its usual place. :afaid:

Cheers, anyway!

Hi Markus,

Xynthya has already passed by Spain, although not in Catalonia. It has struck the Atlantic coast (Galicia and Euskadi, as far as I know), and it has been very powerful, with wind "blows" of 250 km/h the heaviest

I wish that storm will go away fast and leave the less injuries possible  -_-

Well, I really can't complain as Xynthia had already lost much power when it arrived here. Compared to what happened in Western Europe - over 50 deaths and lots of material damage - we were really spared here; no serious damage as far as I can tell.

Cheers!

mmmm.... those storms are becoming more frequent in Europe. I still remember the last year one :afaid: ... and from the wind speeds Luth mentions I must conclude that that one was nothing compared to Xynthia.
Anyway, so far the apocalypse-2010 counts say: Haiti, Chile, Western Europe, Taiwan ... man, this is getting nasty.

Oh guys, hope nothing bad happens to you due to that nasty storm...
In Kuwait, we had a beautiful yellow/orange day today. Literally, it looked beautiful to have such a huge dust cloud all over. Sure, it got nasty by entering into rooms and leaving its trail all over town after a while, but the sight of it was amazing. Should have taken pictures. :ninja:

Why haven't you taken any, Jorge? :bawl:

The storm is over - but spring is still far from here. Right now, we're up for a few more cold days...

Cheers!

So do we, Siren,

we had a bit of sunshine these days. But apart from that I think this may be the beginning of the Fimbulvetr as there is no end of the winter in sight. :afaid:

Whew - that's good news, I suppose?

Now, would you exchange some of that warmth and sunshine for... for.... say for a snow-cooled beer?

Cheers!

Back at home after a hotel-night in Barcelona (very near my work) because I was unable to travel to my home, due to snow. I'll explain better later  :insane:

That bad, Luth? Oh my goodness...

Over here it was a wonderful day. Slightly frosty, but a very sunny day with blue, almost cloudless skies over snowy fields. I like the contrast between the cold air and the warming sun. :)

Cheers!

Well... I'm sure that some of you would think this is only a tiny little snowy day, but  in Barcelona, when it really rarely snows, and when it does it is so weak it hardly turns any road white...

Yesterday I was working, luckily in a big-windowed office, so we could see all the snow since the beginning. It started to rain first, and after some rain some little snowflake started to fall. But gound was wet and weather was not so cold, so it lasted a lot of time... hours, until it started to lie. It did at 15h aprox., when snow was falling more and more heavily. A lot of people in the office decided to go home earlier, as we supposed Barcelona is not used to snow and we could have problems with trains and cars. Of course, we had! No train was leaving the station except two which had a very short distance to travel. Perhaps you can remember I work in Barcelona but live in Calella, at 60 km... Luckily for me, Xiquet was trapped in Barcelona too (he works in another city near Barcelona, and he went out from there with great difficulties, by car, but he had to leave the car in Barcelona as it was impossible to drive!). So, we together booked a hotel for a single night, at 100 m from my work  :ninja:

Today trains worked again, but as the tracks of the train are by the coast, and we have high waves due to the wind, I lasted more than 2h before arriving home, instead the 1h15min it use to last. Nice day  :disgust:

Well... This is the bad part. The good part is that I was walking (and trying not to fall) in a heavy snow storm (heavy for us, I'm aware!), what I almost enjoyed if not for my wet and frozen feet toes. And I saw a fantastic and hard to see again view of Barcelona. You must think we are a coast city and it only snows every 3 or 4 years, or less, and never so hard. Infrastructures are simply not prepared! All city was isolated because you could use no train, no car, no bus... even it was really difficult to use mobile phone

Some pictures taken from internet. I took some with my mobile camera, but the quality is so bad it even looks as a less snowy day

 Man, that so freaking cool! The last time I went to Barcelona it was hot as hell, and to see it like that is like watching a postcard from a parallel universe

Hey Luth,

that must have been quite an event for you!

I understand that this casts a towns into chaos that is not used to snow at all - quite to the contrary of our towns here who fell into chaos, too, due to a winter you have to consider quite normal, just because our towns are becoming too lazy to prepare for normal winters. But for you this is something very unusual.

I think you did the right thing and made the best of it. :)

Cheers!

Oh! These are really surprising pics! I like them anyway))))

Today it was snowing all the day! Even for us days with such amounts of snow are abnormal indeed. And the wind is really loathful. It had overtaken me on my way to the university and I could do nothing but to run, for I was sure it wanted to freeze me to the bone :wOOt: :wOOt: :wOOt:
