Title: Not metal music you like.
Post by: lavaniegosII on November 24, 2006, 02:58:28 am
Well, i made this topic because i was hearing Madredeus (portuguese band). I'm not shure what type of music is, is like a combination of bossa nova, tango, spanish guitar, new age, i don't know but i like them very much. Other bands i like:

1.- Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio (like dark folk with electronic)
2.- Shadowseeds ( you know what i mean)
3.- Jethro Tull
4.- Yes
5.- Rush
6.- Astor Piazzolla (nice tango)
7.- Emerson Lake and palmer.
8.- Nox Arcana
9.- Juan José Lavaniegos (he is my uncle, here is a link of some songs www.myspace.com/juanjoselavaniegos)
10.- Classic Music , opera and contemporanean
11.- Cumbia xD (If you want to dance is a nice option)hehe.

Some Folk music
Some Punk songs (not my style, but now I find a few songs enjoyable)
Some Latin Pop/Rock/Balad music (Few, but that's a something)

Industrial such as NIN, OOMPH, old Stabing Westward(The last album was horrible though)

Tori Amos (not sure what her music is considered) though again I don't like her latest album... the old stuff was great though

Soundtracks such as Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, The Last Samurai

Older Rock Music- Led Zeppelin, Hendrix

Hi there,

I also like classical music - not surprising for a Therion fan - especially Baroque. And there's a neo-folk-band from my town that I like a lot. :)

Cheers!

The list *is* a bit too long to post here in all its glory, but, ruffly, my favorite non-metal acts:

Pink Floyd - Gilmour's esoteric solos and Waters' angst-ridden and yet thoughtful lyrics do it for me every time.

Blue Öyster Cult - 'cause the clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst... like acid and oil on a madman's face. And so forth.

Rush - Give me more of that Neil Peart goodness!

Simon & Garfunkel - My favorite gay couple. Simon rocks my world even when Art isn't there to grope his ass so he can sing higher notes. (Or was it some other part of his body? Meh. Not really important, I guess.)

King Crimson - Chaotic and charismatic at the same time. Give me more of that Robert Fripp goodness!

Led Zeppelin - Turn the Page and follow the Plant on your Stairway to Heaven.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - There's something about Beethoven's Last Night...

Ludwig van Beethoven - There's something about Beethoven...

A Perfect Circle - More emo than Tool, still full of Maynard goodness.

The Sisters of Mercy - Andrew. Eldritch. 'Nuff said.

Fields of the Nephilim - Aaah, a descent into the maelstrom. Bring on the bats.

Mike Oldfield - One of my favorite artists - not because I hail his name on a daily basis or because I have all his albums - but because the man has style.

Nick Cave - 'cause the man's a freakin' legend.

The White Stripes - 'cause Jack's back. In black. Heart-attack. With a big rack.

Yeah.

I'll stop now.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 'cause the man sounds nice.

Little Pigeon's ForHill Blues - 'cause Goluban can pack a punch.

Laufer - 'cause Cro rock has a few good bands.

R.E.M. - 'cause it's the end of the world as we know it (And I feel fine)

Aw, damn it, this is getting to be out of control.

Yeah... so, anyway... and then some.

Damn, ashamed I forgot to mention Syd.

*hits head repeatedly with yesterday's paper*

You forgot Bike :wink2:

Yeah. And Syd.

I love all the eras of Pink Floyd, but that central one, the DSOTM period (so to speak), is just poetical perfection.

That does not, of course, exclude The Wall (for which I have a demented sense of love), The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and so on...

Damn, I forgot to mention Syd.  ¬¬

Jethro Tull!!!!
One of those bands I never, ever get bored to listen. I wanted to learn to play flute after listening Ian Anderson playing... but that was beyond my capabilities (my fingers seem to have a mental independence that my brain cannot break... and they finishing doing stupid things that "I" don't want them to do)

So I'm guessing you have a love-hate relationship with guitars. :)

Did you ever try playing drums? In prog and other alternative styles of music, the independence of one's limbs can be a good thing.

Just ask Meg White.

Or Michael Giles.

You've guessed right... well I actually have a hate-hate relationship with guitars when I'm playing them, and a love-love one when anybody else is playing them (especially if that anybody else is called.... (add the name of your fave guitarrist here)... )

Nope, never... and you probably have a point there. However, I'm so traumatised with my musical attempts that I prefer to leave that "pleasure" to more skillfull humans.  :wink2:

Hi,

After metal, I can listen to some French-speaking artists like Renaud or Jacques Brel. The music in itself is not especially good (nor bad) but it is mostly for the lyrics that I listen to them

I like also classical music (if that was not the case how would I like Therion ?)

And I like also listening to a parody of Rap/hip hop called Fatal Bazooka. They really show how pitiful is rap and hip hop.

Finally, I enjoy listening to Kamini ... It is only a rapper and he is funny, he doesn't take himself seriously and the lyric of the only 2 songs he made are funny as well. :drunk:

Here were my 2 sins : I listen to 2 (french) rap bands ...I'm ready for flagellation :innocent:

So I decided as a fair asshole  to open this million years old topic just to ask... MARKUS - have You seen Tristan und Isolde on stage? Do You know the music? Do You like it? And everything You can tell me about it :D
Title: Re: Not metal music you like.

Are you going to watch it? :wOOt:
Title: Re: Not metal music you like.
Post by: Persephone on May 19, 2012, 08:03:26 pm
Unfortunatelly not :) It's not being played anywhere now. I think last time they played it it was 10 years ago and last year I saw some posters but I think it was in the National Opera. But no Wagner in this season :(
But trust me that in case I have the possibility to go, I would like to :) I came across the music of Tristan und Isolde in one movie I really like and since then it could  not leave my mind in peace. So that's why I am asking.

Do You have any experience with this? Do You like it Lucy? Please feel free to tell me anything!
Title: Re: Not metal music you like.
Post by: Lucy on May 20, 2012, 07:42:31 am
Yes I do like it! :) Try to download it somewhere! And please read thoroughly the story, because I enjoyed a lot when I understood what's happening on the stage at the moment. Especially in the first act, I found it fantastic how he expressed by the music the hidden emotions, the changes, the forecoming tragedy...

Well, it's not the happiest opera at all, but on the contrary. :( For me the most touching is the figure of king Marke - he is so human but he hasn't got enough power to change fate.

It's... erm... long. :D
Title: Re: Not metal music you like.
Post by: Markus on May 20, 2012, 08:13:27 am
Hey folks,

unfortunately I can't say anything about this particular opera. The only ones by Wagner I've seen - the only operas I've seen in years - are "Rheingold" and "Siegfried". Those I've liked a lot! I wasn't so fond of the music when listening to it from the records but live on stage it was just plain amazing.

It's... erm... long. :D

Ummm... it's Wagner. :nana: Old Richie from Leipzig - my neighbour city.

Cheers!

Markus

Yes, all Wagner's stuff is so long :) That's why they do not put in on the stage here :(  The main reason.

Lucy, thank You for the feedback. :)  Yes, I know, it's very sad story (trust me, right now I understand it better You though but somehow it's helping from time to time).
