Title: New album

What do you think about the title and the artwork? I've just seen it now, and first impression was "mmmh... no so great as Lemuria / Sirius B". But even so, I think it's a good cover, and now... we know something more about the album: "Gothic Kabbalah"... of course, the Kabbalah couldn't miss a whole Therion album. How's that it hasn't appeared before?  :lol3:

Yep, I agree with you Luth. The artwork is not as impressive as it is in Lemuria-Sirus B, but it's still OK. The title ... I don't know, to me it sounds like one of those clichés to atract new fans (may be I'm bit ignorant here, and I'm missing the whole point, but anyway). Nevertheless, if the music is good, the rest is far less important (and I still trust Therion in this topic).

Hi there,

I'm half a day offline, and my favourite band publishes title and cover artwork for their next album. :wOOt:

I like it a lot at first sight. I love the colours, the symbols, the font... I'm also very glad to see that they're about to return to the older topics. Very much looking forward to this one! :)

Cheers!

Markus

I kind of agree with Markus - the cover's nice: not very sophisticated, simple but effective, and nice colors!

Hi there,

indeed I like this reduction to the essential. I find that quite noble looking. Well, tastes differ. :)

And Aluqak - where exactly do you see an attempt to attract new fans with a cliche? I don't quite understand what you mean... to me the title sounds just like Chris would supposedly like it, considering what we know about the lyrics of the existing albums.

Cheers!

I love the new cover.  As soon as I saw it, I put it for my new avatar in Last FM (which Luth noticed right away :))   :ninja:

I agree with Aluqak - I think the title and cover are both a push at gaining a wider audience.  Although the cover is less 'arty' than SB/L there is still plenty of careful design that's gone into it.

But I think it's positive to aim wider, after all die hard fans will buy it anyway and all the better if they can pull in new fans.

As Aluqak rightly says, it's the music that counts - and we trust 'em on that score .

Umm... can anyone explain me why everybody believes that a highly specialised occult title is "aiming at a wider audience"? Don't tell me it's because of the word "Gothic", please! And don't tell me it's because of "Kabbalah". It can't be either of these because that wouldn't make any sense. But then... what is it?

I like it

Does anyone have an idea what the little figure is below? I tried to enlarge it but still can't recognize it.

Good idea, Mommy!

Anyways, boys, please, don't talk like this! We can't know the band's intention, who they want to aim with the new album. I think the title is genial, because you can hear "Kabbalah" all over the world nowadays, but I think really few people knows about it. Now who's interested in it can learn directly from the Therion Gods... I'm sure they're ready to teach us. As deep as the listener wants it.

Hi Lucy,

"Kabbalah" may be a fashionable word these days, but it has been an important part of Therion lyrics long before Madonna knew it even existed. :D

I'm just not sure what exactly they mean by "Gothic Kabbalah". Is it simply about dark (qliphotic) Kabbalah, or does it have to do with the Goths as Seph said on the official forum?

Cheers!

Hi Markus,

I think Therion isn't that simple what the Panda of the Doom thinks... I'll bet they have something to surprize us... Can't wait! :impatient:

I mean the same fact I love the most of them: "never see the things from only one point of view".

The new album art is great, not as impressive as L/SB. But it is kind of too simple for my taste, but still good though, the color scheme is nice.
As for the title, I though of a clichè when I first saw it, but remembered: "Therion is not as many ignorant bands and musicians, who hardly know what Gothic means, and hardly undersatnd (if tehy do) the Kabbalic system"

Hi there,
Actually it is because of these two words going together. Just try to think as the average teenager who doesn't have a clue about Therion, or about the true meaning of the words "gothic" and Kabbalah". The only thing these people usually know about the Gothics is those crazy freaks disguized as vampires... and about the Kabbalah... well, Lucy already said it, Madonna and all those Hollywood stars who claim to practice it. Don't think as a Therion fan for a sec. and you'll get my point. We already know what Chris means by Gothic and what's the place Kabbalah has in the Therion lyrics, but we don't count!!! we are a kind of "illustrated freaks" compared to the people out there. Just try to imagine the average teenager, fan of Evanesence or whatever, dressed in black and reading a tittle such as "Gothic Kabbalah"... [talking like the average Canadian teen] Hey man, look at this! Gothic Kabbalah, this thing must kick major ass, hein? [/talking like the average Canadian teen].
That's all what I mean, and there is nothing wrong in looking for wider audience... that will suppose more money for the band, better bockings and more shows. However, I would be very interested to ask Chris if this was his original intention... personally I don't think so... but the title is there, and I do think that's the effect it's going to have.
Oh! and anyway, as I said before, if the music and the lyrics are good, who cares about the title of the album?

yeh - what Aluqak said! ^^^
Totally agree, and it saved me typing out loads of stuff!!

It's one of those titles that *personal opinion alert* I don't like!  Because it just sounds a bit rubbish.  It may well take on a different meaning for us when we get to know the album, but at the moment on it's own I don't like it.  *just my opinion based on my take on the world*

But that is just an opinion on a title.  There are plenty of crap album titles that belong to great albums.  For example "Painkiller" by Judas Priest.  Totally crap title.  It's about headache tablets, surely   ...but it's a fine album.

Hi there,

i 'm new to the forum and this is my first post, so forgive me ! About the cover i also think the more important thing are the songs on the new album. I have to say that i never heard about the Band a couple a days before. A friend of mine is working at a local radio station and told me to listen to this promo cd she offered to me.
I was really amazed in a time where all the stupids listen to hiphop and other sh.. I was always impressed when bands like nightwish or evanesence met the market which gave me hope that there is still a community which likes good metal music.
All in all i ordered the 4 dvd 2 cd set from amazon to get more into the music of therion. The release date of the new album is the  12 of january 2007. So be surprised !
And no, i 'll not upload the songs somwhere.

CU Tom

Hi Tom,

and welcome to the forum! :)

So you were brought here by an album that hasn't even been released yet. :lol3: Well, there's still a lot of music to discover for you, and the live stuff is a great way to start that discovery. BTW we won't ask you to upload the album... Some of us have it already, acquired through dark channels, :ninja: and others have joined OFFy's Path of the Brave which means they'll deliberately wait for the release.

If the secrets you talk about are the lyrics there's a lot to discover, too.

Cheers!

Markus
