Title: Pandemonic Outbreak
Post by: TheOFFman on May 31, 2006, 11:30:48 pm
Do you like that song? There is even video on DVD. If you don't like it I'll start to argue with you, so don't post if you don't like it.

It's one of the few death metal songs I like, I've never seen the video, though. But why did you put this in the OT forum OFFman? isn't this Therion-related?

1. You answer is satisfying.
2. To give some job to moderators. They will become lazy.

i'll reply anyway: no, I don't like Pandemonic Outbreak :D I generally don't like death metal, so it's nothing about the song.

If you like Therion you like death metal, that means that you like Pandemonic Outbreak!

Not really, Off. If i like newer stuff, it doesn't mean I have to like the older too. So I don't like death metal.

You like Typhon and Three Ships Of Berik (Part 1: Calling To Arms And Fighting The Battle) <- growly death vocals alert!

Pandemonic Outbreak isn't really death metal to me Livi, but if you don't like DM you're not likely to like this either.  The music has something of early Celtic Frost about it, mixed with Schuldiner-style vocals.

Overall:  It pleases me, but only slightly.

...but I do like the original topic.  Excellent attitude from OFFy!  :D

I certainly did not mention Three Ships of Berik, Offy, but just Typhon, which has that great, vibrant beginning aaaand most vocals clean.

Vocals in Typhon are mostly gowls. Death metal growls and that means you like death metal you just didn't listen it properly.

That's not very exact, Offy! Typhon has both growly and clean vocals, but most the vocals are clean, since you can hear growls in just some parts of the song, like in the Amorphis song you gave me (Brother Moon).

Vocals in Typhon goes like this:

clean:

Typhon is alive - Descending with allies
From the mountain of the snake – In the deepest night of Pan
Typhon will return – With Erebos and Nyx
And a vision of the storm – And the Ocean and Tethys

growls:

The Dragon breaks the temple wall
The Flood will drown our gods
Break down the wall
And let another kingdom rise
The castle of Olympia
Is shaking by the storm
The King lost his crown
And now the wall is tumbling down

clean:

Typhon overthrow – the throne of Father Zeus
The creation of the gods – And the order of Mankind
Typhon is alive- Descending with allies
And the empires will fear – All the power of ther wrath

growls:

The Dragon breaks the temple wall
The Flood will drown our gods
Break down the wall
And let another kingdom rise
The castle of Olympia
Is shaking by the storm
The King lost his crown
And now the wall is tumbling down

solo

growls:

The Dragon breaks the temple wall
The Flood will drown our gods
Break down the wall
And let another kingdom rise
The castle of Olympia
Is shaking by the storm
The King lost his crown
And now the wall is tumbling down

and growls again:

The Dragon breaks the temple wall
The Flood will drown our gods
Break down the wall
And let another kingdom rise
The castle of Olympia
Is shaking by the storm
The King lost his crown
And now the wall is tumbling down

BUT!!! One single clean letter lasts 100 times more than a growlish one  :D
Title: Pandemonic Outbreak
Post by: Elizabeth on June 03, 2006, 12:52:08 pm
Exactly, Luth: clean vocals last much longer, because...well, because they're clean vocals! It doesn't really matter the number of words, as long as they're growled and therefore pronounced differently.
Title: Pandemonic Outbreak
Post by: TheOFFman on June 03, 2006, 12:52:31 pm
Now the facts:

clean vocals in Typhon - 2x26 sec

growls in Typhon - 4x24 sec

Now calculate!
Title: Pandemonic Outbreak
Post by: Elizabeth on June 03, 2006, 01:13:21 pm
You even timed the clean vocals and the growls just to demonstrate I like death metal?!

Even so, 2x26 + 2x24 = 148, which makes less than 3 min. On the other hand, Typhon is 4:36 long, so it leaves 2:08 of music only: and that's better than growls!

Anyway, there's no point continuing this discussion: I just expressed my opinion, I don't like Pandemonic Outbreak, I don't like death metal, and Typhon is just an exeption within my tastes.

No, I just wanted to prove that clean vocals doesn't last longer than growls in Typhon.

That means that you can enjoy in death metal. For example Symphony of the Dead and The Way have much more instrumental parts than growls.

What about Three Ships of Berik? It has an amazing instrumental side (It's got awesome growls, but that's not the point)
BTW, yeah, quite a few songs from THerion's death metal era have more instruments than growling.. Why not like them, Eli?

Post by: Elizabeth on June 03, 2006, 07:03:01 pm
I don't have a prejudice about death metal at all, it's just that I don't enjoy growls, they just drive me nuts, screeching my sensitive brain! Whatever Offy might think, death metal just gives me a nervous and uneasy sensation, that's mainly because I don't enjoy it.

I repeat: Typhon is just an exception, and Brother Moon is too.

But suppose I'll post that pice of info around here, so you'll all find out, One ;)

I don't like plain death metal: I've tried to enjoy Opeth as several people has told me a Therion fan has to like Opeth, but I can't; it's too death for me. I don't like first Therion albums, and only from "HDHM" I start to enjoy it, but not as fully as now. I can stand some growls, even some whole song with death singer, if the music is not only "death-like", and the rest of the album is wider in its style, but I don't like death as a style. And first time I heard Typhon and Three Ships of Berik (mainly Typhon), I disliked a lot the singing; now, I enjoy it (after listening it like 1000000 times, my ears are used to them), but I wouldn't like a new death album from Therion, for instance.

Summarazing: I don't like death metal, but I can hear some growlings in some case.

PS. Anybody has a "growling-splitting" to put out the growls in Haggard? I love the music, but I can't hear it too much or I become crazy  :bawling:

You are the same case as Elizabeth. Read what I told her, I don't want to repeat myself over and over again.

btw Opeth is progressive metal with death vocals  :)
