Title: Favourite Band

OK, at first I thought this was Therion-related.  But then I thought I'd expand the question and put it into the voids...

Right then you NTSMS muthas, as it says:

Are Therion your favourite band EVER?

If YES, then please explain why

If NO, then please state who is.  ONE BAND ONLY!  :D   And also please explain why.


This question is supposed to be tough, so no cheating - One Band Only!!

YES, IT IS

Well, at first times of my metal knowledge, when I only knew Blind Guardian and Rhapsody (and the Spanish "Mägo del Oz"), but ver very first, Rhapsody was my fav one. Very soon my taste changed and I liked more BG, and Rhapsody began to be a bit boring for me (don't kill me Alucard, or I'll kill you for having not Therion as the favourite ever :ph34r: ). BUT when I discovered Therion, it INMEDIATELY changed to FIRST BAND EVER!!!!!!

Now I'm discovering new bands, and some of them are very close, like Rage, the long-known Blind Guardian and, very lately, Nocturnal Rites... but Therion is STILL and FOREVER the favourite!!!!!  :pop:

Yes indeed, they are. It's easy to explain: I like their music best, and I also like their lyrics a lot.

I think it's obvious that Therion is my favorite band ever. I hope it will stay that way. Why? If you listen Therion then you know why. If you don't listen Therion try it and you'll know why.

The answer is yes, it is my fav band ever!
Explanation:
1. I always liked classical music and opera.
2. I love metal, it makes me feel great!
3. So a band who plays both at the same time must be my fav!
(But I don't like all symphonic metal bands, there's a Therion style that makes it different from all other bands.)
One of my friends showed me Therion, she said: You will like it! And she was right  B)

...I voted 'No'.  It's a really tough call for me to pick my favourite band ever, but I would place Therion in my top 20.

My fabvourite band ever have to be Coroner.

- Complex metal that is vibrant, energised and varied
- A totally unique guitarist, my personal favourite above any others
- Best lyrics anywhere, dark thought-provoking poetry that has many levels of meaning
- Total consistency, 6 albums released in their career, each perfect, yet each showing development

Yes it is.
Because before it i listened shity music. And when you listen crap and see a very good bend, it will always stay no. 1, no mater how other bends after it are good.

Therion truly is my fav band, for many reasons: it was the 1st metal band I listened to, and getting into them with SotR, you could imagine the impact. I love the music, especially the newer albums, and I love the lyrics. As I said in other threads, growly stuff is not my kind; lyrics blew me away by complexity and by the research I had to do to understand them.

By the way I used to dislike growls, but with "Typhon" and "Berik" I slowly got used to them, and today I really enjoy them in a certain dose.

I voted yes.  I'm drawn to the sophistication of the complex melodies of Therion.   The songs seem timeless, and I never tire of listening to them.

Well it seems that I, like Sirus, am looking for a stupid death or at least for being banned from this forum :unsure:
Anyway, I voted NO, because right now there are other bands which, musically, fill me more than Therion does. My tastes have become darker and heavier these last years, and Therion is going on the oposite way (i.e. more lighter and symphonic). It is not that I dislike what they are doing... far from that, it is just that .... well, I can retain myself from headbanging when I listen to their last two albums (L/SB). And that, from my point of view, is VERY important.
Which one is my favourite band?... I don't know, most of the bands I like have done a one or two albums I don't like (even Therion). Perhaps the only band which has kept up the pace is Judas Priest, but then again, it is me who has changed and I don't like much of the newer stuff. I would need a band which changes in the same directions I do to declare it my all times fave, but such a band does not exist  :( .

Sometimes I think it is the 'searching' and discovering good bands that is most fun!!

So keep on looking  :D


...it's weird, I was into Coroner for over 5 years before I really got it and realised just how good they were.  Maybe some band you already know will suddenly click into place.  And you're right about moving and changing too..  Coroner split up years ago, so they are like a perfect set of six albums to me, but of course they cannot change.


PS  Hail to the Priest, oh yes goddammit!!  :party43:

EDIT:  Priest are one of those bands that would feature very high in my list (above you know who).

It is interesting how people can listen same genre and have so different taste. For example I don't like Judas Priest at all. And about growls. I noticed how new metal heads don't like growls and I am sure they didn't even listen it properly. I can't say that I like all growly vocals, and I don't like all "normal" singing vocals. It's all about songs, melodies and how vocals fits in. For example Fernando from Moonspell is one of my favorite singers, I just love his voice (both normal and growly) but I still find new album too "black". I prefer older albums where he in one song sang in both ways. I find some death vocals and also some heavy-power vocals very annoying. Why I am saying this. I don't know. I just wanted to give my opinion. And for the end Pandemonic Outbreak ruls! Especially the begining!

Well I voted no.

There are three bands in my whole list that are my all time fav. Of course Therion is one, but first comes Death and Amorphis.

Now, since I have to pic one from those I will say Death.

Therion is cool, but too much symphonic stuff, for my taste, can get me distracted, and I really enjoy more growly headbanging-inviting-music together with killer riff mastering. The result is Death.

I know Death doesn't exist anymore because of Chuck Schuldiner's death :(, but he has been and will ever be the best of the DM scene ever. And DM is my favorite genre.  :D

Don't burn me at the stake please  :unsure:

Heya Offy...

I like all of Amorphis albums, even the ones people tend to hate (like Tuonela and Am Universum), Eclipse now too. Unfortunately I have only been able to get the promo. Hopefully the record store will have it soon and will be able to give the album a proper listen. Amorphis will always be good at everything they do even with the lineup changes they've gone through.

Wait, are you saying that people hate Eclipse? Eclipse is one of the best albums I have ever heard! Just listen those songs Brother Moon, Leaves Scar, Born From Fire, The Smoke, House of Sleep (check my last.fm top songs!  :) ). And I think that the most people hate Far From the Sun.

Heya Offy!

The problem in my country is that I am mostly surrounded by orthodox-"metal fans" who can't stand anything "soft" except if it is old and glam. It sucks, even my bf is like that. So I have alot of friends that only appreciate the Karelian Isthmus, Tales from a Thousand Lakes, Black Winter Day, you know...when they were more "tough", and then Elegy which is really my all time favorite is not liked here. People can be weird  <_<, but I refuse to be so close minded, they loose!  :nanana:

Hmmm...

Here is...very alike.

But all those metalheads are in style like,Judas Priest,Iron Maiden,Manowar,Metallica,Pantera,Darkthrone,everyone is though,no fealings except hate and egosim.

So,a very few of us are mettalers which like those bands I said previously.
Those people only act their hate,or are stupid so they hate anything,eventhemselves.
