Title: Comparing Therion DVD with other-band DVD
Post by: deathdancer on May 23, 2006, 08:52:18 am
Can we compare Therion's DVD with other bands DVD?
Is it better?
Does it miss something that other bands have?
The price?
Video qality?

What I liked whery much is the part where they film how the albums wore recorded in studio.
It reminds me of LoTR bonus DVDs

I don't really remember other bands doing that.
Even if they did, they miss orchestra and singing people.

The price is definitly... shall we say... state of the art cheap!

There are some lower quality stuff, but that is understandable because those are really old stuff.

And for god's sake can someone stop Mats screaming!!
Only part I don't like in Therion-live

I would like to see also more backstage videos, interwues...
I would like to see 10 Theerion DVDs, not 4  :eusa_dance:

Hi there,

it's the same over here: I don't usually buy music-DVDs, CoB is really an exemption. But I've got a glimpse of a few others at the metal dealer's of my trust. Obviously CoB is done much better. I mean, just look at the menus that are done with so much love for detail.

About the price: You pay a little less than 7 bucks per disc. That's far from being expansive!

Cheers!

Markus

Hi dd,

saw your second posting just now...

I know what you mean about Mats and I agree. He does have a good voice, but he shouldn't add so many Yeahs to the songs.

Mmmhh... 10 DVDs? Where should all that material come from? You have 10 hours of video material on CoB with its four disks already. Isn't that enough for the time being?

The DVD I saw most recently was one by "Die Apokalyptischen Reiter". Very funny - they have a clip in sock-theatre-style, sock puppets playing a metal song live - but you can't compare the quality or the menus to CoB. I also can't understand the complaints of that guy on the official forum about an alleged lack of sound quality. Did anyone hear any errors or lacks?

Cheers!

Markus

He must have never seen Therion live.
In my oppinion Therion sounds very, very different live than in albums.
That is because they don't have symphonic instruments, they have only 6 singers, and main male singer is... whell... Mats... so it does sound really different.
I was very surprised when I went to Therion's concert.

About music qallity I definitly love the basses. They are so... hearable. :party43:

Hi deathy,

I don't think he complained about the musical style (live vs. studio) but the technical sound quality. He wanted the DVDs in 5.1, but they're "only" stereo.

Still, I don't hear any lack of quality. My ears may not be trained enough for such subtleties, but I heard noone else complaining.

Cheers!

Well, I bought all the Therion albums and I am keen as hell for the next album...  but people who know me already know I don't buy DVDs.  This is NOTHING against Therion, I just never watch the damn things.  Ever.

So what am I posting in this topic for?  Well, even I can see that the package is damn good value for money!  :D

So... comparing to other releases, I say this is exceptional value - without even watching a single frame, the value is obvious to see.  The content seems massive and varied, and I reckon a lot of care has been taken to make the whole balance of content right.  I never ever watch DVDs, but even I'm tempted!  :D

I've had no time to watch too much, by now. Only few songs from Mexico, a recording from the "Paroxismal Holocaust" time (damn, Chris might have 18 or less there   ) and some bit fragments more, only to know how they look. I want to have time to watch all!!!!!!!  :bawling:

Only then I'll be able to give a proper report

PS. Of course, I've already played the CD  :iconmi77kl:

He was less than 18 then. Paroxysmal Holocaust was released in 1989 (or 1988?) so he was... counting my fingers around 15, or 16.
I would say that because of all of your descriptions, it seems to be the very best DVD I've ever heard of. I'll try to buy it when it comes out in NTSC.

Now, you see?
What other band has let their Mini-Me on video  :P
With other bands those videos go to fire so noone would potint fingers at them saying: "oh, how cute you wore... buci, buci, bu..." and other things like that, usualy said by their mothers.
