Title: Eurovision Song Contest
Post by: Markus on May 18, 2006, 06:04:36 pm
Hi folks,

tonight there's gonna be the Semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest. Is anybody gonna watch it? I guess I will just out of sheer curiosity. Mainly I'd like to see what happens to Lordi - they're the "hardest" contestant, after all.

Cheers!

Markus

I bet the UK entry is worse than ALL of yours!  :nanana:

It is some jerk with some school girls.  He looks like a bit of a pervert to me!

Interestingly, our main radio station (which usually is allergic to metal), has been playing Lordi all week!

Vote for the monster show!!

Hi folks,

I won't recommend you to vote for my country, either.

Vote Finnish! Vote Finnish! Vote Finnish!

Lordi is the closest to metal that participates. Musically they were among the very best in the semi-finals. And they're even listed on NB!

Cheers!

I didn't liked that song,Hard Rock Hallelujah,and generaly,my opinion isn't very good about them,beacuse I don't like the music,nor costrumes,nor lyrics.
But hey,I am a guy who will perfer rather listening Summoning alone, than Pantera on party full of chics.
I am...Insane,but I love my women
My country had that luck that they were disqualified beacuse of fights between TWO winning contestants. No Name and Flamingos.
First is the patriotic bands, which base their glory upon their lyrics of loving the women and country, and be so cute, but patriotic...etc
Flamingos is that kind of "band",whom makes songs based on some cathc beat, and even more cathcy melody, and every song is tipe,fucky,fucky,fucky... :party43:

Hi Eresh,

that's a music contest that has been held for the 51st time now. ABBA, for instance, were discovered by the broad public due to it. It used to be full of terrible schlager-music, but recently more modern music got a chance. There was rap (Aaargh!) and, well, hard rock this time.

Cheers!

It's a miracle that a metal song won, because all you could hear by now (and you still can) is either disco-pop-something, folk or rap, all together sounding very disgusting.

It is excellent that Lordi won!  Even the UK gave it 12 points!  My country does something right at last  :)

I must confess, I really liked the Norwegian entry, too.  Although it wasn't metal, it was a mature mid-paced-folk-pop kinda thing.  The jew's harp elements and the folkishness kinda reminded me of Moonsorrow.    :D

Thanks Markus for he explanation. So it is kinda like an European American Idol, but on a larger scale and more serious, since various countries participate and also different genres.

And Lordi is from what country?
Title: Eurovision Song Contest
Post by: Darksong on May 21, 2006, 01:24:24 pm
Night before Eurovision I had a dream.
Didn't wanted to say it,beacuse it doesn't matter,but now when Lordi won(I am glad,btw,though I don't like them),I can:
Therion performed To Mega Therion.Chris was 3 meters high, with tentacles instead of legs.He was naked, but his skin was burned, like a flesh, red and black. He was playing his guitar, without emotions, and his eyes were pale.
The keyboardist was Banshee. Her fingers were so slow, and still the tunes were very fast. Her projection was abominative.
The bass player was without bass.He was chanting in front of Circle. After few words, the song cahnged to Lepaca Kliffoth.
Pyotr had a set of drums as a part of him,so he played them.He had large tail, and he was some kind of Hydra, only he had one head. His theets were sharp, and he made the beat with his hands, not with drumsticks.Choir was bond in chains...
And that night,Lordi Won!
Uhu,nightmare.

I voted for them!  I don't usually vote in anything at all like this, but I made a special exception for Lordi.

They aren't even really my type of thing musically, but I think it's worth supporting Metal in general, and they don't take themselves too seriously.  Well worth their victory!

I liked Norwegian too, Sirius! And the Israeli entry was nice too, with that piano stuff.

I didn't vote anyone, main reason being that I was crying with laughter, 'cause my dad kept bumbling something about Lordi "is imoral! such things are insulting for culture!"

Watched Eurovision..not the whole thing..went to bed earlier...didn't vote for anyone..I was expecting Russia to win..heard some stories about how much money he spend only on a party etc (+ there was Plushenko..and I love what he is able to do on ice) ..emmediately I knew he will buy his victory..and he did that I guess..I seriousely doubt so many people liked that song so much..

I still think best song this year was Sebastien Tellier-Divine..It's got a very cool rythm..

And I liked Spain coz they were original and full of courage or madness to come on stage with that song and outfit..

All the rest was..already heard..already seen..maybe I just liked a bit more Serbia's song..it had a nice melody.

First time I see all Eurovision from beginning to end... and I'm a bit disappointed. Not because Spain was 16th (although it would have been cool a better position), but because of the winner... Russia?? I heard the song, and I didn't liked it... neither disliked. It got me with no real opinion, and it's a bad thing. But... neighbour countries vote among themselves, it's the reality

Well, yes, Spain's song was a great joke. For someone who never saw Eurovision, because doesn't like it, it's the best joke of all... He is not a singer, but an actor (Catalan actor, first seen in local TV, I've to say  :evil2: ), and he got the **** to present himself for the contest and win and go  :insane:

As I said... first time I see the contest, and first time I want Spain to win  :nosweat:

haha - this was typical Eurovision!

Many shit songs were played, and a diabolically average shite song won.

This is exactly how it should be.

Western European countries should forget it, coz we don't like each other enough to block vote like they do in Russia etc.  :fish:

Here's my top 3 of the night:
1)  Armenia - hot
2)  Ukraine - hot
3)  The 3 girls in purple dancing for Spain - very hot

...the songs?  oh, I don't remember those.

Well, well, well. Last night I saw Eurovision for the first time in my life, and it was one of "those" experiences...
I was pretty surprised to see how homogeneous the whole thing was. Most songs were of the "I-would-like-to-be-like-Brittney-but-I'm-not-crap-enough-to-succed" type. All in English, all pop-shite... not many folkoric touches or anything original from their respective countries (excepting Croatia I think).
My faves: Greece, Ukraine, and Amernia... man, they were hot. :wOOt:
I had good laugh with Latvia, Spain and... well, those playing the evil vs. angel shitty song.
The freaking scary moment of night was the first time I saw the swedish girl :afaid: .
Biggest disappointment: the absence of the Irish turkey in the final :bawl: . That would have been glorious.

... and the winner?... was there a winner anyway?

The second semifinal is today, with the contestant from Hungary, at 9pm, and the final show is on Saturday. :) Last year Jácint was born on the day of the final! :D

Our contestant is very special this year, he's a M.A. in Philosophy, with not much experience in the world of music. I don't dislike the song. But I think he's loveable, maybe in a funny way.

From what have I seen, the first semifinal, I'd say that the contest is very Eurovisional again. :wink2: But I absolutely did like Netherland's song! I think it's exceptional. :)

I have only seen some small part of the show... I have not even heard the Spanish song (not today, not before), but I imagine it deserves the place it "won" (the one before the last ). As for the Hungarian and German songs, I have not heard yet: tomorrow I'll look for them on the Internet. In fact, I was in front of the TV when the Hungarian one was on show, but I was busy with my god-daughter and I was not able to hear it too much  :roll-eyes:

From the few I've heard, I liked the Greek one: at least, it was funny  :insane:

Well, I think I won't be able to watch the final this year, again, but I'm interested in the results. I keep my fingers crossed for our singer! The media says (as always) that his song (http://www.eurovision.tv/page/history/year/participant-profile/?song=31243) has a great chance, we'll see. :)

Is anyone of you interested? Maybe it's only me to make you catch up with contemporary Hungarian pop music.
