Title: Tarados
Post by: Markus on January 15, 2006, 12:31:11 am
Hi folks,

does anyone here have an idea what "Tarados" means?

Of course I ask because of "The Opening": "Lepaca - Draconis Nox - Tarados". The first two are clear, but what about the third?

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Markus

Well, I know what "tarados" means in Spanish, but sure it's not the meaning there

TARADOS: masc. pl. of "tarado" , defective (thing), handicapped (person); idiot.

I think it's not the meaning, right?

Hehe Luth.... that is the first meaning that comes to my mind when seeing that word. Sounds greek though....but hmmm...

-I have looked through the internet and in this link: Dictionaire Infernum (http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/delirium/mythology/abramelin_oriens.asp) I found this meaning: "Tarados: Perhaps Coptic. Dispersion."

I had no idea what is "Coptic", but the wikipedia says: "The Coptic language is the last phase of the Egyptian languages, and is the direct descendant of the ancient Egyptian language written in the hieroglyphic, hieratic, and demotic scripts. The Coptic alphabet is written in a slightly modified form of the Greek alphabet, with some letters (which vary from dialect to dialect) deriving directly from demotic. As a living language of daily conversation, Coptic flourished from circa AD 200 to 1100. It survives today as the liturgical language of the Coptic Orthodox Church."

This is the first definition I have gotten from the Internet. I promise to look further on this today, bu now,  I gotta have breakfast  :D

Edit:

What is Draconis Nox?

Its very hard to find info about this "Tarados". I have only been able to find This (http://www.morgane.org/sacredmagic.htm), and I don't know how reliable it is. In that book, in the 19th Chapter, it is listed as one spirit to whom "we can summon to obtain what we desire"

But I really have no clue. Any luck, Markus?

Here (http://www.sacred-texts.com/grim/abr/abr039.htm) you can know that:

Quote
TARADOS.-- Perhaps Coptic. Dispersion.

And there (http://www.palmyra.demon.co.uk/superstition/angelsdemons.htm), you can know that in  "The Sacred Magic Of Abramelin The Mage", in the sublclassification "Spirits Common To Oriens & Paimon & Ariton & Amaimon", there's the Tarados again.

But better here (http://vhata.rucus.net/stuff/demons/), where you discovers that Tararos is a

Quote
A servitor of Oriens, Paimon, Ariton and Amaymon. Dispersion.

Not a very extensive info (and very repetitive!!!), but more than nothing...

NTSMS  rules, rules, rules! You´re so great, folks!

Dispersion! Apparently their favourite Qlipha - they keep mentioning "A´arab zaraq" or the Raven all the time. So this translation fits extremely well.

May I quote you in the TS library?

Cheers! :iconmi77kl:

P.S.: "Draconis Nox" - Latin: "Dragon´s Night"
