Title: NTSMS Fave Therion Album!
Post by: Sirius13 on October 15, 2004, 08:48:52 pm: A chance for the NTSMS membership to speak their minds about which Therion album is the very best. Please say why your vote is your favourite!

I have them all except Bells Of Doom (some honorary NTSMS members may have this one! :rolleyes: ), which I hope to get hold of one day. Probably I will be a double-agent at that time. ;)

My own favourite changes regularly between SB/L, Deggial, SotR & Theli.

Today I have voted for SB/L, because there is so much there! Lemuria rules!! SotR part 2 would have been safe, and this is not it!! And all the better too!!

Fantastic to hear Chris & Piotr sing again!!! :D :D Hail!! Hail!!!

Altough both can be considered as an unique discs, really I prefer Lemuria. Mot at first time I heard it, so at first time I was "surprised" by the growls, and Lemuria didin't like too much for these reason; but I've quickly been adapted to this glrowls, and then... Lemuria rise! In fact, the song Lemuria is my favourite, is so difficult to explain what I feel when I heard Lemuria LOOOOUD, alone in my home; I close my eyes and I'm transported to parallel univers...

Second fav song is Siren of the Woods, of course, which hipnotize me too... but this is other history!

First, I had heard Lemuria & Sirius B before SOTR.
I like Sirius B...I love Lemuria and I think SOTR is THE masterpiece. I don't know why I prefere SOTR, maybe I 've the impression that the album is deeper...I don't see another explaination for my vote... :mellow:

The lyrics, the music, I LOVE the growling vocals and I even love the artwork it is the best so far. Just when I think I´ve heard the best of Therion they supersede themselves in everyway.

Ey Manolo!

Ok, you voted for Crowning... but WHY? If I have made an efford to describe why (and I really don't know how explain me in musical terms), you have to do, too!!

Btw... talking about growls: at first time, I don't like them. In fact, they spoils (IMHO) some great songs of great bands. For instance... I love Haggard's music, but I cannot hear them for a long time by the growls. BUT... how can I explain it? Growls in Lemuria expoil nothing; at the contrary, after hearing them a lot of times... I like, I love this songs. Is soooooo extrange! I know... I'm crazy, I have double personality or something... but is true!! :blink:

Actually, you ARE crazy. :P - But that's just a general opinion!

Anyway, what is it with growls? I love some and hate others. why?

Some really "bad" vocals I love: Opeth, Immortal, Children of Bodom, Testament ('The Gathering' & 'Demonic' being Death-ish Metal examples), Deathrow, Gravedigger, Emperor, Coroner, Finntroll, Bathory, Carpathian Forest, Arch Enemy, Forest Stream, etc etc.

But if I like them, why do I hate so many others? There are loads of Death/Black metal bands that aren't quite right somehow. And mostly any type of musical genre that ends with the word '....core' (Hardcore, mathcore, anythingcore), I pretty much detest the vocal style!!

Everyone seems to rave about Mastodon at the moment. I can't listen to 'em. Hate the vocals. There are loads of US bands that make me feel like that.

I´ve voted for SOTR because I think it´s the closest thing to true Symphonic Metal so far. It was very hard to choose, though, between Theli, Vovin, Deggial and SOTR. Though I like L/SB a lot I cannot consider it Therion´s best so far.

The greatest songs i find in are Eternal return, ship of luna, emerald crown and via nocturna !
I find it is the album with the darkest choirs and style since therion has becomed a symphonic band (since theli) and i love that dark symphonic and orchestral style.

These days I can't stop listening Ship of Luna. I didn't like part from 4:22 to 4:53, but now it's my favorite part of song. I dreamt this week that part of song!

My fav' album... I voted Crowning of Atlantis. 'cause of the beautiful Crowning of Atlantis, Mark of Cain and From The Dionysian Days. 'cause I love To Mega Therion.. And I remind the time I saw them. 'cause there is a so nice version of Clavicula Nox. And because the covers are very great too.
But I love the others album too, of course. ;)

Also, because Vovin was the newest Therion album back in 1999, just a year after I first started listening to them (of course, my first Therion album was Theli, bought it in 1998 and I love it as well).

I like the other "symphonic" albums very much, but my vote was for nostalgic reasons.

I stopped listening to metal in the early 90's (when Kai Hansen left Helloween), and when I listened to Theli for the first time the dragon in me was awaken again.
There are, obviously, other very good Therion albums such as SOTR, Vovin and even Sirus B, but none of them has made feel the void in th stomach I felt when I listened Theli for the very first time :o .

.... actually I have "unconvetionally" got a couple of songs from this album :blush:, and they are not necessarily my pice of cake. I am not sure that I am going to buy it. :unsure:

I've voted for THELI 'cause it's BEEESSSTTTT album of all times !! ( and it's first metal i've ever heard)
i listened Theli when it was new ! about 8 years has passed and it's still best , i think i've listened it about 1000000 times and i'm still don't have enough of it !!! :D (great music will be always great even after 50 years listening....)

I would like to give my opinion on this topic. In some way beacause it force myself to a more analyticall thinking of Therion albums aside form just saying "I like all the stuff" (wich actually is what I feel ;D). It is true that there are albums wich I have listened more than others and more often also. But, does this mean that Vovin is my favorite album? I'am not so sure. Deggial for me its a masterpiece, but I have listened to Theli a lot more (maybe just because its more "easy-listening")... A good way out of this riddle would be "My favorite Therion albums depends on the mood of the particular day you ask" wich is true. But the trick here is to pick one, and that one is: DEGGIAL. (Maybe Sitra Ahra would be in a couple of years, it still needs to pass the "test of time")

to me, at least one of the songs on "Sitra Ahra" has already passed the test of time: The one about the mistress of time - "Kali Yuga III". I've heard it live on the previous tour, long before the album was published, and didn't really get it out of my mind. I got an MP3 of a live performance before the album was published. And still today it's one of my all-time-favourites by Therion, so... :biggrin:

But you've really hit the nail on the head. It's too difficult to pick just one favourite album!

Absolutly. More less the same happens to me with Unguentum Sabbati with the difference that I didnt listened it until the album was released but I already know is a favourite. Hope the rest of Sitra Ahra continue growing on me until now.

In the surface, I would think its about witches/full moon rituals ("Black man of the Sabbath" may refer to the Dark Lord as well as "God Pan" as consider by Christianity...) Also, the pictures of tremendous orgies come to my mind while listening :pop:
