Title: Christmas Time...
Post by: Ereshkigal on December 19, 2004, 03:07:52 pm
Hi all!

I was wondering about this:

Christmas, how is it celebrated in your country?
Do you join in with the celebration?
Does it really mean anything to you?

In my country it is celebrated in the evening of the 24th. People gather together and eat lots of turkey and stay up till real late eating and setting off some fireworks.
The celebration is very "Jesus been born" oriented.

Personally, Christmas doesn't mean anything to me. I really don't celebrate anyone been born that date, or believe in Santa. I also hate eating untill really late at night and the polllution of the fireworks those days is terrible! Traffic gets worse around the time surrounding Christmas and everyone rushes to the shopping mall to spend all of their money. Life gets very hectic and stressful!
I just can't think of anything exciting about it.... Damm! am I the Grinch or something?

For me... Well on the 25th we wake up open presents, then I just go off to my room, and on the computer. For the rest of the day, till supper, when I come downstairs and have turkey dinner. then I go back upstairs and on the computer.

I only know that on December 25th we celebrate the birth of someone who taught us about the light around us, and about the gravity of our actions...

Of course, you know who I mean... I'm talking about Sir Isaac Newton, as we all know, he was born on december 25th, he taught us about the nature of light, and invented the laws of gravity...

So let's celebrate his birth by exchanging presents with our most beloved, and eating turkey, and decorating a tree (with apples of course :P ), and lots of white lights that we can separate into a spectrum of colors...

So Merry Newtonmas everybody :D

Heya Ereshkigal,

first of all there is no hint that Jesus was born on December 25. That´s why die-hard Christians don´t celebrate Christmas.

My parents aren´t religious, and I have been raised without religion. Still Christmas is a very traditional feast here. It´s not so much about Christian tradition in our family but about meeting relatives, getting together and having a good time. Christmas is celebrated more or less silently, completatively - the fireworks are for New Year´s Eve here.

Cheers!

Markus

Heya!

Xmas... was cool, when I was youmger. We used to blow everything with fireworks. Everything... toads, cars, wheels, balls, dolls... ah... precious moments those... anyway, now, Xmas IS the saddest season for me... I don't know.... I just get all down and everything. It is still just by a bit ahead of my B-Day as THE saddest and baddest of the celebrations/days/seasons/whatever. Still... there's alot of food... and wine... hmmmmmmm Good wine!!    ^_^   Man it rlz... but Xmas still sux  ^_^    :P

PS: yeah... I pretty much do the same as Fallen Seraph: wake up, breakfast and go to the PC and spend the whole day there. It rlz!!

Here we decorate a tree and house a little day before Christmas. At 0:00 25.12. people go to churches to celabrate Jesus Christ's birthday. Well I must say that you can't enter in church if you don't come at least 40 minutes before midnight. About firework, well there is a little firework for christmas but not like at New Year eve.

BTW Merry Christmas.   :)

We spent the whole family together (60 ppl [actually, some were missing, last Christmas we almost reached the 100]), and had dinner (turkey, spaghetti...), there was snow (last time it snowed was 6 years ago or something...)

I liked the fact that my family got together, I saw relatives I had not seen in several months, and some of them in years due to geography... I didn't even cared about the presents this year, although, I did got one of those slippers shaped like a dragon claw :P

Christmas this year, so-so. Got a MP3 player, Vampire: THe Reqiumn rule book, and Nightwish: Once, my parents. Grr... Weren't able to find my top three presents, a pair of nice boots. (So I am saving my money and getting these: http://www.stompersboots.com/fots_tuk/DarkSide2b.jpg (http://www.stompersboots.com/fots_tuk/DarkSide2b.jpg) but they are $140 american, being 15 don't have that much cash.) A trench coat, and not even a simple black hoodie, grr...

But the best thing about this holiday is coming up this week, when going to see Phantom of The Opera, and going to dinner with the girl, I love.
