Title: Epica in Miskolc
Post by: Lasse on January 05, 2008, 03:35:41 pm
I don't know how many of you guys have heard the news, but Epica was invited by the Miskolc Opera Festival this summer to have a similiar concert to Therion's classical. So it appears that it will be a tradition, we can already expect someone else to come in 2009 (Miskolc will be a regular visit for many of us as I see :D). For further infos see http://epica.nl

Of course, I'm gonna guide/translate for you guys again if you wish. :)

For those who don't know this awesome Dutch band, here are some youtube videos:

Only if you won't rant about Nightwish all the time. :nana:

I know how to accomplish that... by singing My Winter Storm all the time! :wOOt:
You see Lasse, I cannot sing and rant at the same time, can you? :nana:

edit: and there is one more guarantee I won't rant about Nightwish, the New Year resolution I made! :P Jeez, how could I forget that one...

And now I'll stop spamming here... this is an important topic... ;)

Speaking about Miskolc... ;D

The city centre... there is a graveyard behind the church on the hill in the forest... 100% gothic atmosphere... ^_^

The lake and the castle 15km west of the city. The pic is taken from a boat. I rented the boat and paddled for 1 hour. :)

The waterfall and some crazy guy wearing Nightwish Blind Guardian T-shirt whom I do NOT know... honest to God! :nana:

Szent Istvan cave - one of two limestone caves I visited... REAL caves... big, long. cold(:afaid:), dark(:ninja:) with a lot of limestone-adornments and fossils...

Ruins of the old castle... the summer residence of Hungarian kings. :king: There is an exhibition about Hungarian history inside... digitalized also... you choose the language on a touch-sensitive screen and then the speakers speak the most interesting parts from Hungarian history!

Miskolc rulez! If somebody had told me I was to see such landscapes in Hungary prior to my visit to Miskolc I would have NOT believed him...

Those were my last year pics and impressions from Miskolc... :)

22nd time and still counting...

Exactly Lasse! You don't want to know what the voices in my head say about Anette! :ninja:

@MissSwan: I assure you that my imaginary parties are much more fun than that! ;) You've seen my posts and the way they look like... I'll just say you have seen NOTHING! :nana:
Now seriously, the only "parties with celebrities" I'm interested in, is to have a breakfast with Tarja... ^_^ But she charges that 300 euros! :-\ :ninja: Did you have a breakfast with Tarja? :fish:

posting in a forum - free
new camera - 50€
new computer - 200€
touristic travel to space - 1,000,000€
pissing off Tarja fan - PRICELESS
for everything else, there is Mastercard

@DD: would you please give me 300 euros from your Mastercard, so that I could have a breakfast with Tarja? :) PLEASE... :nana:

edit:
@MissSwan: and a breakfast with Hansi too! :wOOt: You see, unlike you, I don't care much about the fact he's getting old, bald and fat. :P All I care about is his supernatural voice...
Title: Re: Epica in Miskolc
Post by: MissSwan on February 05, 2008, 01:54:37 pm
ok first off I got what you meant, still i also think that a party with therion is much more fun than a party with your voices :nana: and you not being interested in a party with them only proves you haven't met them to see how wonderful they are :shifty:
second, no i didn't go to the breakfast/dinner (dunno which one it was in Zurich), i'm not that rich :P
and third, i don't care that Hansi is growing old and fat, i do like his voice (a lot) still I like Mats' better, because I'm so tired of explaining this, i think Mats is much more polivalent than Hansi... i prefer his timbre and his tone and the fact that he can sing more kinds of metal and non-metal music than Hansi... why do you have to impose your tastes on everyone else's... if i prefer Mats you're not going to change my mind by constantly shoving Hansi down my throat, the only thing that you're gonna do is get me more and more annoyed with you and with him by association... so if you like Hansi as much as you say you do stop doing this for his sake, if not for anything else ;)

Sorry but I prefer to hang out with bad people... like my voices! :ninja: Right now, Anette is on the repertoire, so to speak... :P

*speaks to the voices*

No! That's bad... BAD!!! :afaid:

Hey guys,

I have the possibility to buy tickets on the internet, the price is 4500 HUF. I know that NeMo will come to the concert, and I'd like to ask who else is planning to visit me in June? :) If You need tickets, or if You can only buy it more expensive, just tell me, and we'll find a solution. :wink2:

All hail the Miskolc Opera Festival which may provide me with the NTSMS Meeting Part 3!

I think not. South American tour is cancelled, North American tour will go with Amanda Somerville substituting Simone and they're hoping Simone will recover for the European part of the tour. ;) I hope too... though Amanda Somerville has kick ass voice too!

The band agreed that they'll do this gig no matter what. Well okay, if everybody dies in a plane crash, than no, but it's gonna be Simone fronting this gig for sure.  :wink2:

Video about the choir rehearshals (http://video.boon.hu/members.boon_szerkesztoseg/Epica-korusproba-1-2.wmv/viewer.html)

What the coirmaster says (rough translation by me :P):

"We got the notes at the beginning of April. They're good notes, very easy to read. We could gather about 30-35 people for this event.

First we're doing rehearshals seperately with each phrase. We're checking the original recordings from time to time, because we want to have an authentic sound. Epica is very exciting music, in my opinion more consistent than Therion, it's quite witty, but very precise, and it contains lovely melodies. We're enjoying the work very much and we can personalize different characters, which is great! But how we'll do live at the Ice Hall - that's a question of time. We have lots of work in front of us, like memorizing the lyrics, the phrase entries... I'd like to add that even tho I don't consider this really difficult, I definitely want to stand up on the stage without any worries and I think we're making a good progress in that."

I know they sound quite off in some places, but please note that the video was recorded 1,5 weeks ago. So considering that they got the notes in the beginning of April, they're pretty damn fast in learning. The choir has rehearshals every day, so no need to worry, hehe.

Later this week there will be more videos and photos from the choir rehearshal, and on the 5th of May 9.00 am you can check out the orchestra rehearsal on Borsod Online.

Well, what I know is Illusive Consensus, Sensorium, Consign To Oblivion, Phantom Agony, Living A Lie, Cry For The Moon...There will be more tho. A song that has never been performed before... But you didn't hear it from me.
And I can't wait to meet NeMo to have some chat about Tarja and spam the forum afterwards.  :fish:

@NeMo: I am sorry NeMo. But at that time I had a boyfriend and he was terribly jealous and especially he hated my "abroad" friends. I had to have a date with him. He would kill me to cancel that.

I was pitying very long time after that I didn't meet You. :(

Of course not. How do you dare to think such thing? :fish: Instead I wrote to the official Tarja forum to inform her crazy obsessed freaky loyal fans. They found out that with deleting the cookies they can vote again. Not that I support this action ( ), but now it seems that Tarja is for winning now. :yeha:

Talking about Epica's songs: I didn't write all of them (I don't have an exact setlist), many others will be performed too. For example Chasing The Dragon and Quietus, I forgot those. But that's really all I know. :innocent:

:yeha:

I had to change my place because the drummer was covering the Metal Granny. ;D It was such a pleasure to look at that woman how she enjoyed the music and smiled all the time! :) The show was superb, the organization, Epica, the choir and the orchestra. The sound was perfect, you could hear every instrument. The lights and the atmosphere too. Here is the setlist:

Classic program:

Palladium
O Fortuna (Orff)
Dies Irea (Verdi)
Ombra Mai Fu (Handel)
1st part, New World Symphony(Dvorak)
Spiderman medley
Summer 3 (Vivaldi)
Montagues & Capulets (Prokovief)
Imperial March (Star Wars)
Stabat Mater (Pergolesi)
Unholy Trinity
In the Hall of the Mountain King (Grieg)
Pirates of the Caribbean medley

Epica program:

Indigo / The Last Crusade
Sensorium
Quietus
Chasing the Dragon
Feint
Never Enough
Beyond Belief
Cry for the Moon
Safeguard to Paradise
Blank Infinity
Living a Lie
The Phantom Agony

Bonus:

Sancta Terra
Illusive Consensus
Consign to Oblivion

They played all my favourite songs! :) I liked them all except for Living a Lie. They changed it... no grunts, no priest voice, different melody... I didn't like it. :( But that is the only thing I didn't like that evening. When they left the stage before the encore I shouted "Sancta Terra! Sancta Terra! Sancta Terra! ...." and when they returned they started playing exactly that one! :wOOt: Only that moment was worth my whole trip. And that was not the only coincidence that evening... after the 3rd classical piece I said to myself: "Where the heck is Simone!?" and couple of seconds after that she appeared on the stage! People immediately rushed to the stage, me included. So much about the sitting... I recorded the piece In The Hall Of The Mountain King from Grieg's Peer Gynt (:fish:), zoomed the Metal Granny at one point of course. ;D I wanted to record something from Epica's part but before that the organizers announced twice that the recording was to be strictly forbidden. So I didn't, and according to YouTube the other people didn't record anything too. :( But something can be seen here (http://video.boon.hu/search/epica/members.roboxz/epikakonci4.wmv/viewer.html). ;) It was funny that someone from the audience threw a white wig onto the stage at the end of song The Phantom Agony and Simone put it on the head. :P

Simone with the white wig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn4MC1ko_Vs)

Simone was beautiful, singing as well as in studio, headbanging even better and also air drumming during the songs. I like mezzo-sopranos more than sopranos in general. She reminds me to Tarja in lots of aspects... :wink2:

I'm also glad that I meant Lasse. :)

(http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6852/img1468ur6.th.jpg) (http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1468ur6.jpg)

I made only one pic of the gig.

I didn't and still don't have time to write a review (I'll have an exam today for example), but it was kick-ass! :yeha: There won't be a dvd, just a live cd. :)

Good luck for the exam!!

Hm, but the "official" downloads look like a professional recording... (picture recording)... - I just keep dreaming / hoping :)

Too bad there won't be a DVD
it would be pretty awesome to see it if it came out though

although, I'm not sure if I'd be happy to see it, or it would make me even more sad for not have been able to attend the concert :(
either ways, it would be awesome to have it :D

I´d be very happy to finally see them life - especially in SUCH a concert... but I´ll be happy about a Live-CD as well.
Will it be of all the concert (including classical part) or only metal part??
