So, well, we have our 'now playing' topic in the music section, but now I've thought of this topic while having a snack at 11:11pm. :evil2:
What are you currently munching on? A bag of fries? A sandwich? What do you put in your mouth, chew and swallow while you post in here?
BTW, this snack on the 11th hour was a sandwich I made with the remnants of yesterday's mashed potatoes.
-
I just finished eating some Mixed Nuts. . .
Please refrain from the innuendos.

Eeeerm... First of all, sorry for my sudden disapparition, I was at my uncle´s. With a bad but bravely kept any way dial-up connection.
And now, that I am back. What do I come across to, in the middle of the Yom Kippur fast? Exactly. A topic about food. That´s my luck

There must be a virus on this forum... Because I have the same problem. I haven't been really ill for more than a year for now so it was hard to find medicines at home, but in the end I've found some and now I'm munching on those. :)
-
A virus indeed... I've heard its scientific name is Therion Anniversary Tour... ;D
-
Svenska Dagbladet:
In Europe has appeared one serious problem. It's some new kind of virus.
After testing some infected people the scientists finally got a result and the diagnosis sounds:
Therion.
This virus is extremely dangerous because it influences people's mind and it's spreading very quickly cause of the Anniversary tour.

So I see you are one of those "I eat only healthy food" & "I don't eat what has eyes" chicks, e? :P Well bureks indeed do not have eyes... :innocent: I advise you to move to San Francisco, to be among your own kind... :lol3:

huh? I'm not a vegetarian if that is what you are referring to... :P
and btw, even though I'm not a vegetarian, I never eat burek with meat :ninja: :P
-
@NeMo: no..there was no rabbit swimming in the soup..it was a cow....
The only thing that matters it that cows have eyes! But I only hope it was not a mad cow!? :afaid: I've heard that if you eat mad cows, your brain will turn to be like a sponge... :ninja: Some left-winged people from San Francisco (I didn't say hippies :P) told me that!
Müesli with raisins and hazelnuts.
Müsli = Muesli = correct

I fear what kind of sh*t you ate soulsmith! :afaid: I hope it's not genetically modified... :-\ Because it may turn your brain to be like a sponge! :ninja: Some right-winged people (I didn't say hicks :P) told me that!

Can you imagine them in that blender from my last post? :wOOt:

-
Well bureks indeed do not have eyes... :innocent:
But indeed they can have eyes... if you eat meat bureks.
I fear what kind of sh*t you ate soulsmith! :afaid:
The same sh*t I've been eating for a long time. But who knows... maybe it doesn't matter how you write it. Or "germans" couldn't agree among themselves so there is no "rule" how to write musli/muesli/müsli/müesli.
I hope it's not genetically modified... :-\
I too do hope it's not. :-\
Because it may turn your brain to be like a sponge! :ninja:
Who says it already isn't a sponge? :P
And what's with that behavior? You're supposed to like cats, not blend them. :P

And she just wouldn't leave until I ate what she brought... :disgust: She even forced me to eat couple of slices of grapefruit! :bye: I was really mad on her... she went to supermarket couple of times per day while it was raining icy rain outside... And she is 80! :-\ If she had fallen she would have broken something for sure... :afaid:

What recipe? :-)
-
Just the purist one. Bake the whole berry until it is reasonably soft, cut it up, remove the seeds and serve with some pepper, salt and oil.
I might do the remaining half with some ginger and herbs - or be idle and do it the purist way, too. :lol3: The season is only starting...

I have to say I never tasted pumkins... :) Only the pumpkin oil and that wasn't exactly epic :D
-
"Never" as in "never ever, not even once"? Well, most people are not so fond of them because they don't have much flavour, but I seriously like at least some varieties - those with a more intense taste. So when you want to try pumpkin I recommend stuff like butternut - or my beloved Hokkaido / red kuri.
You don't like pumpkin seed oil? I'm so fond of it... that dark green colour and the intense nut flavour. :wOOt:
BTW, right now I'm munching on some amazingly incredibly extremely yummy Catalan almond cookies.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Hahahaha, mine already vanished :ninja: :D
I do not like to eat the oil alone... but when I put it into couscous for example together with olive oil it's fantastic, it makes the taste really really good. But I bought it to eat one spoon each day alone cause it's supposed to strengthen hair and nails and such (which is very bad with me all the time) but I wasn't able to digest it alone so far. I guess I won't have this possibility with any oil unlike some of my friends.
Well, then if we travel to Halle sometimes --- You have to cook some pumpkins for me :ninja: :fish: I'd love to try... as I am so fond of aubergine and zucchini... should not be so different I suppose.
-
Oh, I see. :lol3: Well, I find any attempt to eat any oil undiluted a very brave deed! :wink2: Have you ever tried to eat pumpkin seeds, the ones that the oil is made from? If the oil helps your hair and nails, then for sure the seeds will do as well. they contain all of the oil plus a number of other healthy nutrients. They're insanely expensive, though. :(
Yeah, they're similar to aubergines and zucchini as they don't have an intense flavour of their own, so that the seasoning becomes important. In fact many people hate them because they only them pickled sweet-and-sour but there are so many possibilities. I'd descibe the taste of (good) pumpkins as slightly sweet and nutty. Oh, and they're an incredibly old agricultural plant, domesticated at least 8.000 years ago.
Yeah, visit me in autumn and I'll feed you with pumpkin variations until you turn yellow from all the carotene. :wOOt:
Cheers!

Hey folks,
today I (seemingly) had a very traditional German food: Bratwurst mit Bratkartoffeln und Sauerkraut - fried sausage with fried potatoes and sauerkraut. Of course, only the sauerkraut was what it seemed: The sausage was a veggie one - still brimming with protein, though - and the "potatoes" were actually sunchokes / topinambur, i.e. the sunflower-bulbs we grow in our garden. :ninja:  That was really yummy and very rich and I think I'll cook the same for my parents this weekend.
Cheers!

Lots of junk food.
Too much junk food.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want to go back home to my parents for proper meals. :ninja:
-
What do You mean by junk food? :-) Oven pizzas or what?
-
Burgers, pizzas, fried chicken, fries, tons of (delicious) bacon...
I need real food.
-
Eeeew. I agree with that (though pizza is my problem too).
-
Sure I remember the panellets. Those were so delicious! :)
Yesterday I made some simple dhal from mature peas. Yesterday I had some of it with onions (slowly fried until glassy) and today - with okra! :wOOt: Waves to Hungary. Oh, and of course each time spiced with some fresh chilli pepper from my own harvest. -_-
Cheers!
Markus
-
Oh, I am envious :-)
I could not find any okra in our shops... and I also am forbidden to eat chillies :( - I got an ayurvedic diet...
As I said in the shoutbox... I just had whole-grain spirulina pasta with pesto genovese. I have to say the spirulina tastes really strange :)
Now I am looking at small piece of chocolate (no white sugar allowed so organic chocolate with fructosis instead of sugar) but I do not really feel like eating it.
Maybe some coffee will arrive though :)
-
I began eating more often at the sushi place on campus.
Good god, it's been ages since I ate sushi. Or teriyaki. Or anything that is remotely healthy or Japanese. :ninja:
-
Hey folks,
Kris, who would forbid you to eat something as tasty and healthy as chillis - and why? And then they forbid you to eat normal sugar but allow fruit sugar which is just another sugar? But then again the pasta sounds good to me. :) You know I'm curious about interesting new foods. :wink2: Do you feel any better with this diet?
So, Jorge, did you like the sushi?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Teriyaki is great! ;D
-
That must have been very tasty, High Priest!
P.S.:
-
Oh Lucy! :lol3:
It was you who gave me the idea, so it was a kind of Lucy-honouring meal. :wink2: I only got canned okra which was oversalted and overlemoned for my taste, but it was okra, after all. I just tried the Turkish store around the corner, and they had it. Later on I discovered that even the stupid little supermarket around the corner is offering canned okra. Probably they have some Turkish (as well as some Russian) stuff because there are so many Turks living in this vicinity.
Cheers!

Tuna straight from the can with some lemon added.
I read on the nutrition facts that it has 9 grams of protein per portion. But the can has 3 portions. That means, 27 grams of protein in a can :wOOt: That is awesome! :D
Luv tuna! <°)))))<>
EDIT: I just read it has 0 carbs. Can it get any healthier? :fish:
-
You, lucky one :D I love tuna too but I can't eat it currently. I got special diet and lot of things are forbidden. I cannot eat any sea fish with exception of salmon. And then only "sweet water" fish.
So please have one portion for me too

Hey folks,
we're exchanging nutrition info? Are we getting that old already? :fish: But alas, here you go (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/)!
Shall we play a round of meal guessing? :wOOt: One posts the nutrition values of his latest meal and the others have to guess what he had. :wOOt:
Cheers!
Markus, enjoying the chocolate from today's advent calendar door
-
Kris,
The nutrition facts for the tuna I read it straight from the can.
For the salmon, I just read it on wikipedia ;D. I was very surprised when I read 33 gms of Protein.
Markus,
I guess we are getting old XD. I used not to care about nutrition facts but now I do. Markus, that site is awesome :wOOt: *adds to Favorites* Although I cannot locate some tropical fruits :-(
-
It's because You now have a responsibility for the little one and You want the best for her/him :-)
-
Yeah, that is indeed part of the reason.
But as I have gotten older I've learnt to pay more attention to what is inside things I put in my mouth.
I notice with age, also my food tastes have changed. I like thingss now that my parents liked and that I hated. For example: fried red snapper
http://chicagospots.com/huatulco/fishfry.jpg
Hmmm... :fish:.
I hope I don't offend any vegeterians out there
-
Yes, this is very typical. Usually I observed this change (children hate - parents love and then when children grow up they like the food too) about olives.
Oh, wish I could have a piece! :D
-
Hey folks,
I don't think there's anything wrong with being interested in nutrition - be it for the little ones or for ourselves. Eresh, you can check the names of the fruits on a good translator and try all the translations you find. I had the same problem with topinambur / jerusalem artichokes and that trick worked for me.
Well, as a little child I really hated spinach, it literally made me sick. Today I enjoy it a lot.
Cheers!
Markus

I  spinach soup with an egg dropped

 ;D
-
Hey there, Eresh,
that's a photo, not a recipe. :ninja: :wink2: Looks yummy, so...?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Hmm I think it's an easy recipe Markus.
Usually my mom does it for me but it's no biggie. Here it goes, I can give you two versions:
Ingredients:
1 handful of spinach
1 onion
2 eggs
3 lts. of chicken broth
Salt and pepper
Procedure:
- Get the stem off the spinach, you only want the leaves.
- Chop the onion and fry it in butter
- Add the chicken broth and the onion
- Season with salt and pepper and add the two eggs and mix
- Check the seasoning
Or you could:
Just put the spinach in water, onion, a bit of tomato, onion and diced peppers. Add all the other veggies that you wish till they are cooked. Season with that broth powder that is sold in supermarkets (chicken). At the end you add the eggs and just mix. Once served add a twist of lemon and hot pepper, salt if you wish and enjoy!
Next thing you know, you have turned into Popeye :-)
*feels hungry*
-
Thank You for the recipe, Eresh! :-) Looks really yummy.
I'm now going to eat some cauliflower soup (also with eggs and with added fried little cubes of pastry).
-
Tonight, I'm going to dinner at a Japanese. Suhiiiiii!!!!! :-P
-
Thank you, Eresh!
So you just crack the eggs open and pour the liquid content into the boiling soup?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Markus,
Yup, but it has to be last thing that you drop and stirr because they will cook fast. The egg will turn white, like shredded. It adds a yummy flavor I  Let me know once you cook it.
Luth,
I LUV sushi :D. Specially eel :D
-
Thank you, Eresh!
Mmmhhh... this is not the season for fresh spinach. But the recipe might also work with Chinese cabbage if I reduce the boiling time. I'll take veggie broth instead of the chicken. Nope, I'll just use plain water and go for some soy sauce instead of broth and salt! :wOOt:
Think I'll do that next weekend.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Hey folks,
I've just tried the Eresh-inspired soup. :) Cut some Chinese cabbage - the stronger white parts and the green thin leaves separately. Heated some sesame oil in a pot and fried the white parts for a while, then added the green and filled up with water. Added some soy sauce and let it all boil up. Poured in the egg. Ready!
Thank you, Eresh for this idea! In spring I'll do the same with spinach.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Ohhh! I just had lunch, but suddenly had the urge for some soup XD!
Sounds yummy Markus! I will see what other soups I could inspire you to maje :roll-eyes:

Eresh, for the time being I'll make some fried vegetables. After all, I have a Chinese cabbage now.

Ohhh! I just had lunch, but suddenly had the urge for some soup XD!
This sounds so familiar somehow. :lol3:

Adds some home-grown walnuts
-
Walnuts
I am just breakfasting coffee :-)
-
Yum yum, coffee!
I just had my regular birdfood with cinnamon and said walnuts - plus some green tea, of course. :)
Oh, how I love that walnut-tree! It stands in a corner of our cottage, never needs any specific care - all you need to do is to gather all the nuts in autumn before the mice do. :lol3: This tree was huge when I was little, I remember playing beneath it as a young child. It was planted in the 1930s, as far as we know. So I always get a little sentimental when I'm eating those nuts. :)
Cheers!
Markus
-
We never had a walnut tree anywhere near I lived. Only when we travelled to our family's friend cottage in Schwartzwald - there was one. Huge one :-) and I really liked it too.
Now You really made me feel like eating nuts :ninja: But I am allowed only few wallnuts and few almonds.
I am going for some green tea now. :-) Or maybe white tea.
-
Well, you only need a few walnuts - they are so packed with nutrients that a few are really enough. So if you can afford some, enjoy them; perhaps together with an apple or some other fruit. Or as a topping to some salad or vegetables. :wOOt:
And enjoy your tea! slurp
Cheers!
Markus
-

Nuts as a salad topping YUM!
Today I will be bad, very bad, very evil! :evil2:
I will proceed with a portion of dark chocolate cake my mom gave me, with strawberries. *takes a bite*
I really like this one, because it is sweet, but it is not THAT sweet.
Today's lunch (I am already thinking about lunch):

Thank you! :)

Diet Coke -_-

Smoked cheese croissant
-
Oh, croissant. :wOOt: I wan't one of the simples... the butter one
But I cannot eat them too. But of course I do not really make the diet 100%. If I tried to be so accurate it would be contraproductive - I would be in few days feeling so much like eating tons of the thing I am not supposed to eat that I would eat much more of it than when I take a bite from someone's plate from time to time :-)
Again, coffee :-)
-
Sweet melon ;D
-
Green tea and baguette with cream :)

Sage tea (Markus, now anytime I think of sage I think of You  ) and coconut balls.

What a stylish comment, Ignacio! :lol3:
I'm having a peach flavoured black tea with honey while browsing the forum with Futrinka sitting patiently on my lap... wish all mornings would start like this. :D My son isn't awake yet, at least I didn't feel him today yet. :)

That indeed sounds like a very beautiful morning :)

Ham and cheese SUBWAY with all the vegetables and wheat and oatmeal bread ;D

I am drinkin a tea - it's some kind of green Japanese tea my friend brought me from Tokyo. I don't know what it is cause it's all in Japanese and the taste is - very green  ;D
I did not like the smell of the tea, also I had a first sup and I did not like the taste until few seconds past. It's really delicious then ^_^ Very curious tea, indeed.
-
Hey folks,
Kris, that sounds like some very interesting stuff. Oh, and I like your differentiated description.
Yesterday I made Brussels sprouts for the first time ever. At least as a real food. :wink2: When I made Brussels sprouts I usually had deep-frozen pones. Yesterday I tried to make fresh ones and it worked well and wasn't much more effort than the frozen stuff.
Cheers!

Markus,
Nothing XD! Used to be water, but then I was just chewing on it. :disgust:
Now: a wheat kraker with strawberry jelly :wOOt:
Mmm...that Sushki looks yummy. Not sure what it is, but looks good!
-
Today's menu for lunch will be:
Breaded chicken breast, mashed potatoes with cheese and some red beans I made with a tomato sauce.
My snacks for today are:
- Green mango
- kraker and strawberry jelly
- fig yogurt
In case I get more hungry:
-ham and cheese sandwich
As you can see, my lunchbox that I bring to work i s very packed with stuff. Even though it sounds like a lot, portions are small because if I eat to much I vomit .
Have not gained any weight. In fact, I lost two lbs  Crazy! (Dr. said it's normal)

-
I just drank a milk shake with banana, chocolate oat meal and coffee.
I feel so full and bloated :D
-
I had a spiced couscous with loads of vegetables and white beans.
I am so horribly full too. I really eat only few last days and when I eat regular lunch portion I am feeling almost sick. I would need portions for children of age 6 or something :-)
-
I am going through the same exact thing.
I cannot eat a full meat, otherwise, I puke.
Last week I had breakfast before coming to work, I think it was Monday. On my way, I had to stop on some street and vomit XD! Gross! LOL.
Anyways, what works for me, is to distribute my food throughout the day. That way I don't get too full, bloated, or vomit.
-
That surely sounds yummy, Kris! :) but how come you can eat only a little? Are you feeling ill - or is it just that you're "out of practice" because you've been deliberately eating little for a while?
Eresh, that must have been nasty, but at least you know why this is so. :wink2: And it's good that you've found a way around that problem.
Cheers!
Markus

More likely out of practice. Lately I hardly eat one thing in 2 days. I simply stay without food and only drink something and usually it's alright. And then when I have to eat something my body gets crazy with pressure and it pushes me even more away of eating something.
I simply start not liking food. It feels like poison to me.
-
Kris,
Have you asked doctor's about it?
-
No, this happens to me from time to time (though it did not happen for years). Usually it was in September - almost month like this.
Seems this shifted it's period. Maybe it's post-stress - You know, all the problems I had at home with bf etc.
-
Hey there Kris,
indeed, that sounds worrisome. Well, if you know that state and if it passes, then it's probably alright. But take care, will you? :hug2:
Anyway, that couscous sounds like something I might try. :wOOt: Got a recipe? Just a general direction - what kind of vegetables and of spices? Any special tricks to make it even yummier?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Ok, I'll post it tomorrow :-) I'll think of the recipe (usually I just put in whatever I like :D )
-
Ok, I'll post it tomorrow :-) I'll think of the recipe (usually I just put in whatever I like :D )
In that case, milady, I just need to know what you like. :wink2:
Nah, really looking forward to it! That sounds like something for me. I might try it the weekend after the next.
Cheers!

Poppy seed-covered Sushki and a cup of black tea.
I'm in the Eastern European university student's snack heaven. :ninja:
-
Absolutely :D
-
I just had the best lunch ever (kinda of a late lunch)
- Squid, shrimp and fish ceviche.
- Garlic fried shrimps
All by the beach :D ahhh I love the ocean!
-
Today's lunch will be Slovakian national food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halu%C5%A1ky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halu%C5%A1ky)
My version of the food contains the cheese bryndza and sauerkraut. My bf's version contains bryndza and lard ( :-X hate lard). But important is we both can have our own version of the food at the same time
-
Green tea, Mao feng..
-
Pizza for breakfast! Yum! XD (Peperoni) ;D
-
Tomato soup :) I love PIZZA! Margherita with ham ad corn is the best for me ;)
-
I absolutely love Margarita pizza, Agnes.
Tomato and basil, on a pizza are the best combination ever!
For lunch, today, I grilled some chicken breats, mashed potatoes, sliced tomato, and iced tea.
:-)
-
Banana, some cereals with milk and a cup of green tea for breakfast! :wink2:
-
Oh yum yum,
I found some Italian blood oranges from certified organic farming yesterday. :wOOt: :yeha: The peels are not even treated with wax or chemical preserving agents, so the peels are explicitly suitable for consumption.
Guess what goes into my birdfood these days? :ninja:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Bowl of watermelon and sliced bananas!
This is refreshing! :wOOt:
-
That sounds great, Eresh!
Melons are offered here, too, but I'm not touching them. It's simply the wrong time of year up here - but I'm looking forward to eating melons in the summer.
Cheers!
Markus
-
We also have melons, watermelons... and since some weeks ago, strawberries and cherries! I also think it's the wrong time for them, and I prefer season fruits :disgust:
-
To be honest, my queen, I even find those off-season fruits annoying. Don't get me wrong, when I see that rather poor people are buying strawberries and grapes right now, then I think that something is going very wrong. Fruit carried halfway around the world that would grow here just a couple of months later should not be so cheap.
Cheers!
Markus
-
We also can buy melons and such, but I find them expensive. I did buy some pineapple thou... I prefer seasonal food, usually it tastes better and is also more healthy than what we get in stores. Lemons, oranges, apples, bananas are more or less it for this winter :)
I just baked chocolate - cinnamon cupcakes! shares
-
Hey folks,
I'm aware how arrogant and cruel my latest remark here may sound, so let me put this straight: I'm not complaining that poverty isn't what it used to be because the poor can even afford fresh fruit at any time! I'm just observing that almost everybody here can observe grapes at this wrong time of this year, and I take that as a sign that they are very cheap - so cheap that their price doesn't reflect the amount of natural resources consumed and of environmental damage done.
To me it's also apples, oranges, chicory, cabbages and carrots mainly, but I'm looking forward to spring and summer when all the other yummy stuff comes up. :wOOt:
Cheers!
Markus
-
I ate a little piece of papaya yesterday, with lime juice on it. The fruit was a present for one of our friends who loves it, and I was in a good place in a good time. He's going to try to plant the seeds.
-
Well, I buy apples and carrots because they are the only fruit and vegetable I use to eat all the time.
I have to admit I do not think so much of the fruit being carried all the world long as much as the fact that the fruit is usually "plastic". What's the difference if I plant it here in winter under aritficial light etc and getting the same but "just" from a country 20 thousand miles away?
Sadly, You don't get fruits and vegetables from our own country usually even in the season. We are not able to plant so much and also lots of it gets sold in Poland or such instead of our country.
-
Right you are, Kris,
of course the quality is another aspect. Take tomatoes for example: Over winter you can still buy them, but their pale, feeble colour is literally screaming out: "No flavour, no sweetness, no vitamins!"
Cheers!
Markus
-
Yes, but as I said - sadly we do have this plastic disgusting stuff all year long :( For being cheap (so people still buy it) it's sold instead of good fruits and vegetables who are "real" (but more expensive to bring up and carry etc... so the price is then so much higher). I cannot really understand it. I guess the people after so many years simply forgot how does a real food taste so they do not ask for the real tasting quality ones.
-
You've got a balcony, after all... :ninja:
-
Not possible :( Try to put for one day something on the balcony and it's gonna be covered by thick blanket of black powder :( It's like if we lived near coal mining :( We are to near to the main roads and also the motorways. I am afraid we would eat pretty much hidden shit with the tomatoes (for example). It's enough I breath that...
-
Dry cranberries! Shares
-
Oh, I love them! But it is hard to find ones which are not artificially sweetened (at least not much). :)
I am driking Alnatura Carrot Saft :) (organic) - but it is very strong pure saft so I have to mix it with water :) (at least I have more!)
-
Hey guys...
what do you mean by saying "it is the wrong time of the year to eat them?" Is it because they are off season and they are not as delicious as they should be?
Coming from a tropical country, when fruits are available almost all year long, I don't quite get it.
I just had more watermelon and two oranges ;D
-
I think you already understood what we meant. I was also thinking the exact same thing you wrote - it must be weird for you to think of watermelon as a seasonal fruit, after all it's available a lot longer where you live than in Europe. Such fruits like melons, watermelons, peaches, strawberries, cherries, any kind of berries are here considered as summer fruits and they are usually more fresh and less artificially grown than the ones we have in stores during winter. So they are also more healthy and taste better :) Oranges, lemons and bananas, apples are for me a wintertime fruits, always had them mostly in winter.
-
Oh! I now see :-).
And speaking of, today I brought mandarins, watermelon, and apples
Loads of fruits, but I eat them throughout the whole day.
I just had a kraker with requesón. Requesón is a cheese that kinda looks like cottage cheese, but less watery and more dry. It is low in sodium and very low in fats. I love it.
-
Watch your plate very carefully, oh darkest of queens! :ninja: That requesón is surely something that might vanish inexplicably in my presence.
Last week I was invited to "Wickelklöße" - rolled dumplings. That's a specialty from certain places in Saxony. I had helped an old guy from my astronomer's society with his computer a couple of times, and as a thanks he made those for me. It's from his birthplace and he enjoys these dumplings a lot, but for some reason his own kids and grandkids never let him make them.
Stupid kids and grandkids! Those dumplings were very yummy; very hearty from the pan-fried breadcrumbs that are rolled into the potato dough! :wOOt:
Cheers!

I've been having fresh strawberries every now and then for a couple of days now. :) At last they're getting ripe here.

Rice noodles :)
So far I haven't bought the strawberries.... they all look like plastic :(
-
I've been eating strawberries for... like 2 months, now. Now it's time of cherries  :wOOt:
-
You're Spanish, oh Regina Mea Mala. :fish: I suppose you'll be having fresh apples and juicy pears while I'm enjoying my cherries up here in this cold, Northern country.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Pears we have all year long (where they came from, don't ask), but strawberries, cherries, peach and similar, they're still season fruits, and I still enjoy them so much while they last :yeha:

Yeah - what's wrong with that tea, Eresh? Don't you like those plants? Or is the combination weird?
Myself, I'm having more strawberries - and tomorrow I'll have red and white currants from our cottage.
Cheers!

I found it to be too bitter!
But today I poured some honey on it and it took the bitterness away :hug2:

Apple and Cinnamon (very X-mas like)

Today I need strong things... I'm eating (nibbling at most) LINDT pure chocolate 99%. I ran to prepare a (pure, solo and without sugar) coffee in order to be able to swallow it. I like really dark chocolate... and this one is good... but too heavy even for me!
-
Why do You need strong things if I may ask? :)
-
Oh, don't worry... it was a way of speaking. It's Friday, I've had a tired week with a lot of work, and today the weekend just begins. So, I need strong things to swallow the previous working days, that's all :lol3:
*shares 0,1 mg of the 99% dark chocolate with Kris*

The cherry tomatoes have as a grandad some German seeds :fish:
-
Do they? :wOOt: That's wonderful, my queen!

Yep, I almost had a chat with them, but I know not German enough... next summer, perhaps, I'll be able to introduce myself to them... before eating them! :lol3:

What's the other stuff, my queen? What's it? What's it? :w00t_jump:
Meanwhile, I'm having some vegetarian gummy bears. :wOOt: There's a gummy bear store at the main station in my city, and yesterday I went in, saying: "I'm not kidding you - do you have vegetarian gummy bears?" I was expecting something like: "What? There's no meat in them, so what a stupid question is that?!" but the lady just smiled, pointed at some varieties and told me that these are made without gelatine - nothing animal except beeswax in there. So yum yum! :cht:
Cheers!

Hey folks,
last night I had two lemon cucumbers (http://www.google.de/search?q=cucumber+lemon) a friend had given me. :wOOt: Nice stuff! They don't taste like lemons but look like them. Really beautiful! You know how fond I am of unusual vegetables, off the beaten supermarket paths. I extracted seeds, of course, and hope to grow them next year.
Cheers!
Markus
-
That looks amazing! How does it taste?
Currently, I am already for some time commencing a hunt for okra. Not being sold here... suprisingly. And I also have no place to grow them myself.
-
They have a mild cucumber flavor without any bitterness. The shell is thick and strong and there's a lot of very juicy pulp inside.
Mmmhh, okra...? Not easy to get here, either. Have you tried any Arabian / Turkish stores? There's a lot of them here and that's where I found at least canned okra.
Cheers!
Markus
-
I'm going to plant okra in our new place. :) :ninja:
We have found a nice piece of land, with a cute gingerbread house on it. It's very near to Soltvadkert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soltvadkert). Since it's about buying land, we have to wait three weeks while our intention of buying is visible at the local government. Some people like neighbours or wine producers have the right to buy it first. But if no one appears, we will be able to buy it. Please keep your fingers crossed!
-
That looks like a good place :-) They say that it is mostly surrounded by national park!
But isn't it quite far from the place You originaly wanted to go? (Maybe I only remember wrong... :)
Anyway, I will keep all my fingers crossed for You!
-
Thank you. :)
Yes, we've checked lots of places that are good for us and the bees as well. The Northern part where János' family lives, isn't this great for producing honey and for living. There are many acacia forests and "silk grass" (this is a typical Hungarian honey) nearby.
-
I can't wait to try the fresh original honey from the beekeepers! :wOOt:
-
Bird-food with walnuts, soy milk and fresh petals of Calendula and Tagetes
-
Bird-food with soy milk and rose-hip. :wOOt:
-
I like soy milk a lot sometimes but currently I am forbidden that :-)
But thank's for the idea, I think I'll have a bird food for dinner too.
-
Actually it was my breakfast, but I couldn't post that up to now. :) I have bird-food with soy-milk every day, but sometimes I can add something special - such as the rose-hip this morning, straight from the bush. :wOOt:
-
White yoghurt (organic) with dried fruits, little cornflakes and oat flakes. I will add forest honey though cause the sourness of the yoghurt does not do me well lately. Then - it's perfect!
And coffee :)
-
Sounds nice, Kris. Hope you enjoyed it!

Had an ox-heart last night. :ninja: Got another one that I'll eat today. :wOOt:

Had an ox-heart last night. :ninja: Got another one that I'll eat today. :wOOt:
-
What? Ox-hearts are yummy! With a nice crunch as you bite in, not too juicy - with a strong flesh - and a hearty :lol3: flavour.
I'll save some seeds - you know how fond I am of unusual tomato varieties such as the Coeur de Boeuf (http://www.google.de/search?q=coeur+de+boeuf).
Cheers!
Markus
-
That's a very strange tomato! I googled some pictures and it is interesting inside - the seeds are strangely sorted... how does it taste? Is it the same like usual tomato?
-
Well, it has a lot of firm flesh, only little of the juicy seed pulp - so it's easy to cut up. The taste is quite good, not too sweet. And yeah, it's a genuine tomato with a good tomato flavour.
I stumbled across it in a nearby supermarket. And as I like diversity in fruits I had to try it - and to reward the supermarket for daring to offer a tomato that's not just red & round.
Cheers!
Markus
-
That must have been quite a great flavour! :wOOt: We got a similar one from J's parents last time: grown in their garden.
BTW I hear sadly that your vegetarian diet is over, High Priest. :disgust: :D

Ummm... oxen don't count as animals, do they? Because besides the ox-hearts I've always eaten ox-eyes* as well...
Anyway, the German wiki-page says that the first mentioning of these tomatoes goes back to a Hungarian variety. :wOOt:

Just today I've eaten one of those... still another one to be *drolls* eaten... I'd not seen the name (ox heart) until now :nana: (yes, this one is very small... the other tomatoes were giant!!!).

Whoa Luthy, that fruit looks fantastic, worth a painting! :wOOt:
-
Oh Regina Mea Lycopersica,
that one really looks amazing! Very, very beautiful. Where did you get it?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Where did you get it?
In my usual fruit shop  (this one is really a baby... the big ones were at least 5 times that size).

Why the hell didn't we visit your personal fruit shop back then? :bawl:
-
Just in order to go back for sure. ;)

Cranberry tea :)

Cranberry tea :)
Yummy :)
For me it is Marks & Spencer cookies - All Butter Fairtrade Brazil Nut Cookies. I love those. They are rather expensive but definitely worth the money. The only thing I do not like is that the main cover is not recyclable :(
-
Mmmhhh... shouldn't the cookies go well with the cranberry tea? :wOOt:
-
Yes :ninja: Also other great kinds of the like winter tea (apple + orange + cinnamon and other spices) and coffee too!

Thank you

I was just having fried pattypan-squash with tempeh as a lunch. Good stuff - but remind me to peel the squash next time. :fish: Usually this squash is used at a very young stage while this one was ripe already. I just couldn't resist that large orange UFO...
Anyway - pumpkin season is officially opened!
Cheers!
Markus
-
Sounds good :-)
Would You share some "easy-to-get-ingredients" squash recipe with us, please? :hop:
-
Now, this one was very minimalistic: Stir-fry cubes of pumpkin flesh, season them with curry and some extra turmeric, serve with soy- and hotsauce. I think this one needs some extra acidity, so you might try lemongrass or a bit of lemon juice.
I'll see what I'll do the rest and let you know! Also I'm curious about your ideas.
Cheers!
Markus

I've had like 8 or 9 cups of tea in the last 10 hours.
-
Was that all, Jorge? If so, what's up?
-
it's quite cold here, in Poland. So I drink tea :) This time: A green one with Opuntia ficus-indica :) Yummy!

Just had the feeling of nasal congestion and a fever.
Luckily, that went away and I walked over to one of the campus cafs and consumed a good bagel with eggs and bacon. Now feel like a god after a one-hour session at the gym.

Noooooo and omg that's not even in Budapest. I will miss your old place so much. I've been there 4 times (right?) and I always felt so horrible when I had to leave, it was just so comfy and such great home atmosphere (I guess the fact that you lived there helped) :)
Where can I read more about this?
I like soy milk a lot sometimes but currently I am forbidden that :-)
I like it too but it's too expensive here. :(

OFFy: yes, here too... though some "non-brandish" soya milks are quite the same price of the cow milk.

Lime sorbet

Never mind, OFFy, this place is different but has a great atmosphere as well. :)

Fried blue potatoes with sweet bell peppers and and hearty fried tofu stripes. Fresh pears from the cottage as a dessert. :wOOt:
Got another serving for the office tomorrow.

Ohhhhhhh, that sounds amazing! Wish I could have a share of that!
-
Yeah - I'm looking forward to the second serving, too. It was quite yummy and looked really colourful.

Sharon fruits from Israel. Gosh, those are sweet! Apparently they consist of 120% sugar. :lol3:
BTW, I ought some cough sweets and noticed that they package is labelled in German and Hebrew. Made me think of you, Kris! :)
Cheers!
Markus
-
I do not know sharon fruits :-) Will have to check it on internet.
Hm, if they are in Hebrew, they will be most likely kosher :)
-
Try those fruits if you get some, Kris! They're also known as kaki. Full of carotenes - very healthy. And incredibly sweet. They're in season now.
So I've bought kosher cough sweets? :wOOt: They're not specifically labelled as kosher, just a plain bonbon. But perhaps it's quite difficult to make pieces of flavoured sugar un-kosher....
Cheers!
Markus
-
It's easy to make them non kosher, trust me :-) For example in case they used E120 :) Which is an additive mostly to find in anything, to my resentment I have to say.
In case You got a package there should be a little K in a circle on it :-) Or You can google if they are kosher if You know the name.
But usually food with hebrew inscriptions use to be kosher, for example I can find some Corny bars in CZ which are kosher (and some are not - depends on the things inside it and also where it is coming from).
I see! Kaki, that tells me something already!
-
I see, Kris. :)
Well, I can check about the circled K tomorrow. The sweets were a little something for my team, so they're in the office. I do remember that they contain lactic acid, though, which would be an important information if were to eat kosher. But there's no carmine in there, definitely. Which is a nasty trap, anyway - why do they have to put dead animals even into sweets? :bawl: I can't even buy candy without checking the ingredients. :mad3:
I called them "Sharon fruits" because they were of a variety I've rarely seen before. Regular kakis are very yummy already... these are smaller, their shape more compact (not as high, and almost square). Their colour is more intense and their sweetness makes sugar cubes pale with envy. :wOOt:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Might be a bit too sweet for me then :D
But I will have to go for something to the shop today so I can check if they have some exotic fruit (most likely not on Sunday and in this place).
-
Mmmhhh... no kosher-certificate on the sweets. ¬¬
And the kakis are all eaten, but I've just had a pomegranate. :wOOt: What a mess, but worth the effort!
Cheers!
Markus
-
Hm :-) usually kosher certificate means that the food is of the best ... but it depends how you look at it.
I am enjoying Cranberry juice. One of my favourites.
-
I got the kaki/persimmon/sharon fruit today, so I will finally try :-) Haha, it's funny - another of things I am trying for the first time in my life - how often you can say that? :)
-
Hopefully every day. :wink2:
Let me know how you like them! I'm having some every day now; I'm really fond of them.
Cheers!

Did you really get some hoshigaki? I mean, they must consist of 120% sugar (plus another 25% carotenes). :lol3: Seriously, I can imagine how incredibly they must be.
Cheers!

No :-) I just met it on facebook on Japanese pages I follow and I liked that idea!

Yeah, that must be very yummy. Thank you for showing this to me! BTW, I've just had two fresh ones. :) But it's getting harder to find good ones; their season must be approaching its end.

Some kind of wholegrain - multigrain pastry, half of it with salted margarine (my favourite Danish Lurpak) and eidam cheese. Second half with DM vegetable spread Tomato-Basilikum (my favourite :ninja: ), radish and avocado.
-
Sounds very healthy. Also sounds like food I would like. Do you like it?
-
Yeah :) Just the avocado was a bit too old so not very tasty. Next I'll try to pick a better piece.
-
I don't think I've ever had avocado, all I know is what they look like and that they're full of fat, but the healthy kind. How do you find a good one?
-
We've planty of avocado here (in fact... we have all type of fruits: the ones that grow here, and the ones that grow in the other side of the planet. For good and for bad). I don't like the avocado on its own... specially the feeling of it: it's like butter. But I like "guacamole" for the nachos (avocado turned into a paste with onion and tomato, and some salt). Yummy!!!
-
I don't Markus, I guess I'll have to practice that yet :-) As I never liked to eat avocado before. I started to like it only recently. :)
I used to feel about the avocado same way like Luthy but nowadays I quite enjoy the taste on it's own. Sometimes I add a little bit of salt on it.
-
Thank you both, miladies!
Guess I'll try some avocado: The purist way with bread and salt, and then the guacamole style - but only if I'm allowed to mix in some chillis!
Cheers!
Markus
-
I don't think I've ever had avocado, all I know is what they look like and that they're full of fat, but the healthy kind. How do you find a good one?
I'm used to buy them in a simple supermarket. Then usually I have to wait some days until they become softer. I saw dark green ones and dark greenish-brownish ones too, and both are fine. :)
I have another recipe for guacamole, my Queen. But that belongs to another topic. ^_^
-
I had the brownish one and that one was old :)
Please share your recipe, Bee Queen, because I am curious. I am trying to get an "onion" free guacamole recipe that still tastes good. But raw onion does not agree with my stomach :(

Hey folks,
last weekend I tried some avocado. I did an experimental veggie barbecue and barbecued some avovado. Nice, but next time I'll had some acid - lemon juice or such, that should make them perfect. :)
I'm planning to put up a small grill on my birthday celebration with the family that will be reserved for plants exclusively. No more worries about contaminations and lots of barbecued vegetables for me. :wOOt:
Cheers!

But that's great!!! About the plant-only grill :hop:
-
Yeah! I always felt uncomfortable about my stuff lying next to the meat or being turned with the same cutlery. (Though I still accept using the same pots, plates and cutlery after washing them. No double kitchens. Yet. :ninja: :lol3:) And I was so happy with the barbecued peppers and eggplants and tofu and whatnot that I decided that I don't want anything else for that feast, not even barbecued cheese. :)
Apart from that it's strawberry time for me. :wOOt:
Cheers!

Right now: Birdfood with fresh garden-flower-petals. And last night we had rolls from fried eggplant-stripes, stuffed with red lentils and sage. :wOOt:
Cheers!

It sounds very yummy! :wOOt:
I'm munching rye bread with hummus, Edam cheese and green olives.

Indeed, it was. :) We had some bread and red wine with it.
Yours sounds extremely tasty, too.
Cheers!

Hey folks,
for a couple of weeks now I've been eating fresh rose-hip-halves as a topping to my daily bird-food. some I harvested at aour cottage, some from other sources - I even found some black ones. :ninja: :wOOt:
Oh, and last Sunday I made a Spanish tortilla for my dad and myself.
Cheers!

Wow, I must taste your Spanish tortilla!!!

Have I said anything wrong...?
-
No, not at all! only that I think it curious that you made an Spanish tortilla (with kartoffeln and Zweibel, if it's the really Spanish one).
Oh, and I'm sure that the "Spanish tortilla" is well known in other countries, but... what about the "French tortilla"? We call "French" the omelette with nothing else but eggs (and some salt). This "tortilla", I supose only we call it French! :evil2:

Hehe, yeah, I've read about that. And the German "Bauernfrühstück" ("peasants' breakfast") is quite similar, too. But what I did was really a variation of a Spanish tortilla - with potatoes, onions and eggs. I added a small zucchini from our cottage and some chillis from my roof-deck, but I suppose it still counts. :)
Cheers!
