Thank you, Eresh! Isn't it a good feeling to know the name of that bright shiny thingy up there? :)

Thank you for the photo. I like it! Yeah, its resolution is low, but you can tell how utterly bright Venus is and how the lunar crescent is oriented. Lovely!

Have you seen comet Lovejoy? It's visible from the Southern hemisphere just before dawn in the East. That's a bright comet which passed so close to the Sun that everybody expected it to simply evaporate, but it survived the passage and is now an impressive sight for you folks down there.

Cheers!

Markus,

Yes. I thought this last night: It is not the same to watch the stars w/o knowing the names than to know them! I also registered for our national astronomy association and if possible, I want to take the basic astronomy course that they offer once a year. I hope my schedule allows me too  ;D

I had no idea about Lovejoy! I will investigate now. Thanks for the information.

So welcome to the club, Eresh!

For Lovejoy I can recommend you spaceweather.com which is updated daily.

Cheers!

Oh, now browsing my pics when looking for some nice wallpaper I came over a pic I made too... It's says: Hello Jupiter :)

But then again, who does.

Hihi, thanks Rebecca :)

Yeah, I have to say that it was taken by phone camera too :) Not a good one but we don't have any real camera. So... When I uploaded it later I was pretty suprised that there is visible even something!
But then again, who does.

Amazing for a cellphone cam!

It looks as if you've really depicted the disc of Jupiter. It's hard to tell if that little starlet next to it is just a background star or even a moon. :wOOt:

Cheers!

I tried to catch it again, tonight from our balcony. But definitely didn't. That was obviously a big luck that night :)

And btw I wanted to share something with You. This wonderful photo with Jupiter and aurora borealis :-) I use it as a wallpaper now.

Beautiful indeed! :)

Well, I hope to see some more auroras at home as the sun approaches the next solar max. :wOOt:

Meteor shower this morning at 2:20am. Unfortunately, I could not see it. I sat my alarm and went out, but was not able to catch even one and it was so cold outside! I hope I have better luck next year :-(

So, today, I found out that red star in the sky is not a planet like I thought. It is Betelgeuse. It's beautiful! and was able to fully contemplate Orion. Great clear skies today to the West. The moon lies between Taurus horns.  :evil2:

To the east, Venus lies low, but very very big and bright!

Mmm skies are so mysterious, intriguing, vast and beautiful...makes me wonder  :med2:

Hello Markus,

I found and amazing website of some Japanese institute!

Ceck this out: http://polaris.nipr.ac.jp/~acaurora/aurora/Tromso/ The pics are wonderful (changing everyday) and the video "Daily animation" (click in the right corner) is pretty amazing too!

Oh, I love it.
But then again, who does.

Wonderful site, Kris! Thank you. :)

Quite fascinating that this is a Japanese site about a Norwegian site. :lol3: Anyway, it's a real treasure of images, and the presentation is very thoughtfully done.

Cheers!

My dear sky-watching folks,

keep an eye on the West after sunset these days! Tonight you might have seen a wonderful thin lunar crescent. But the best is: Venus and Jupiter are there, still getting even closer to each other, and the moon is passing them these days. You must see that!

Cheers!

Yesterday it was the "Carnival rua" in Calella, and they walk below our balcony. There were very clear skies, so I noticed the tiny moon and, I suppose, Venus and Jupiter not very far. It was nice to have been warned of them, or I would have missed them!  :wOOt:

Thanks, Markus Astrologus!
