Hello all NTSMS!
I don´t know if you´ve all read Chris´s chat log last Oct. the 9th. It kinda surprised me when he said that he is planning the next album to be more progressive. I mean define progressive. :o
To me progressive sounds like Dream Theater. I´m not sure if there are other variants of this genre. Í´ve only heard 2 progressive bands and they all sound the same.
I have nothing againts this genre (I´m very open minded) but it is very different from what I love about Therion (if this is the progressiveness they are talking about)...I dunno...what do you think? or if you have a better idea of what this could mean?
See ya! B)

He said that the next album is going to be more progressive than Sirius B and Lemuria. This doesn't mean that the new album will sound like Dream Theater... :)
On the official forum, some members hope the new album will be full of songs like Clavicula Nox or The Wondrous World Of Punt. It can give us an idea of what does Chris mean by saying "progressive".
Anyway, for me it is ok that they become a little bit progressive...I only hope they will never be alternative metal :o :D
EDIT : I know it is off topic but, I've seen a member called google.com  ...what is this ?

Prog can be anything really, just generally longer songs, maybe with a developing theme across all songs. Maybe less in the way of instant punchy choruses.
If you think about it, what could be more "prog" than a concept album? And what was Secret of the Runes? - a concept album about Norse mythology.
Clavicula and the like also fit the bill, but there is such a wide range of things that could be called prog that it really is impossible to tell. I even read a (bad) review of Lemuria where Therion were already described as a prog band anyway!!
I think that this statement that Chris made should not alarm anyone who is a fan of the band. To me it sounds like he really wants to try and push the boundaries as to what he can achieve. Big songs, Big arrangements, Big concepts...
I think we are in for a Masterpiece (yet again)!! :D

I've seen it, too. Manolo, can you help us in this X-File?

Where have you seen this? In NTSMS forum?! I have not seen it.
Maybe TS make their move....

Hey! Now I see it!!
There are 2 Members browsing -- Me & Tzar-O, and also appearing in the list is Google.com!!
Maybe google is following you around Tzar-O?
...or maybe following me?

Maybe you're right, Sirius13: maybe is a TS spy...
Returning to the topic: as I'm in metal for not too time ago, I don't know about what is progressive and not. I only know that all Therion albums are great, I love all them (except death ones). I'm sure that any next album will be so good as previous ones, and mabye better... if it's possible
THERION FOREVER!!!
P.S. I wish 19th november comes soon, plzzzzz (Barcelona's concert!!)

...hmmm, and then Luthien appeared on the list of Members browsing?
Maybe it is to do with how you access the site? I always come in from the link in the Therion Forum, does anyone else come in via Google?
But then again, I don't know what I'm talking about! :P

Hehe! sorry for off-topic :P , but as mentioned earlier, I don't think that Therion intending to get "progressive" is anything to worry about. Much of the Vovin/Crowning of Atlantis/Deggial/Secret of the Runes stuff is kind of part way there already. I also read read that Chris likes listening to a lot of 70's music (the height of the Progressive era), so I would imagine he would like to create something that brings through his favoured tastes. :D

Maybe you're right, Sirius13: maybe is a TS spy...
I love all them (except death ones).
Well yeah. you just have to listen over and over again ´till you start to like it (that happened with me). I wonder who else here doesn´t like the growls? I love them in songs like Baal Regignon? B) any one else?
-
As far as I'm concerned, proggresive means long songs, complicated instrumentation and maybe weird tempos (7/8, 9/8, 11/8) or at least symphony x does that and they are progressive.... They have a song that lasts 25 minutes and another one that lasts 20 and they play it on concerts
PD: I also love growls. I was very excited when I download a sample of 3 ships before the album came out and there were growls on it...

I like some songs with growls like Baal Reginion or 3 Ships, but to say the truth, I really don't like so much the pre-Theli era

Hi Manolo,
I guess that´s really what Chris meant by "progressive". He also said it would mean longer compositions with more complex structures - and I welcome that a lot. I mean, L/SB is only giving a glimpse of what Symphonic Metal could be like, and even SOTR is far from really exploiting that potential.
Cheers!

Did he expressly say that the music would be more progressive as in more like progressive metal, or progressive as a general trait of it?
-
I think he didn't meant the music will be progressive, but it will be less non-progressive :) So no progressive symphonic metal (hey! I'll try that with my band), only a little more complex songs.
-
Didn't Chris also say he had another album's worth of material from the L/SB sessions? I wonder if that is the more "progressive" material he was referring too

Hi !
About the therion's 2006 album, like a lot of persons there know, Mats Levén will sing on this album again ! :D
So it will be a great album !
