Hi folks,
let me post a short impression of the Miskolc show here...
It was beyond amazing. Technically, the sound was pretty good - the band didn't drown the orchestra as much as on the Bucharest footage. There were minor screw-ups; Chris had trouble with his guitars in several songs, the male solist in "Siren" missed a cue, and the beginning of "Morning Star" seemed quite strange to me. But none of that spoiled the evening! The solists were brilliant, and in contrary to the Bucharest footage they all seemed to enjoy the show.
At the beginning of the metal part the people got up and ran to the stage, but that was fine with me. They also clapped and shouted, carried away with the excitement, and I wish they had been silent in the more low-volume passages. Chris had to silence them a couple of times, but again that cannot distract from the sheer brilliancy of the evening. This was Therion at their very best, and it was possible only with the help of the orchestra, choir and solists - a big, big "köszönöm" to them. I pity every fan who couldn't make it and hope this won't be the last event of this kind.
Cheers!
Markus

Again I can hardly say any more than my other me ;) already did! My pictures are at my myspace as well, but most of them are about sightseeing and stuff anyway.
Ah, and here are some quotes to remember:
"That's not very professional!"
"Chris Caffery!!"
"You are not gay, are you?"
"Ah, it's YOU!"
"You're talking about Grave Digger, are you?!" *head-shaking*

hey Lex, when was the last one? :P

That was Johan, when he came to us and heard us talking about some shitty band - he didn't hear the name, he was just guessing!

Hello everybody,
I'm from Miskolc. I sang in the choir at the concert last saturday and I've never been part of such an exciting show.
The audience was really fantastic, I think the orchestra and choir have never heard such a big ovation when appeared on stage!
We didn't get used to it... ::)
To be honest I haven't known too much about Therion before but I really enjoyed this fusion of metal and classical music.
The band members were very easy and cool, they didn't complain (too much... ;D) when something went wrong. The conductor was also very likeable.
It was an amazing experience and I hope the concert was a night to remember for you all! :)
-
Hey!
It's so nice of you to read you here... have you been one of those three girls Arina and I have talked to shortly before we had to leave the aftershow meeting?
Anyway: It's definitely been a night to remember. We all are still a bit lost in reverie and absolutely delighted by the whole weekend. I think we all almost cried during Clavicula Nox - or even really did it. It's been worth everything: the months I've saved money, the arguments with my parents and all the excitement!
So thank you very much for your obvious enthusiasm and joy on stage, you all have been so wonderful!
-
Hello, Thedabara!
You are part of the choir that sang in Miskolc? Awesome! I've just seen a few videos of the concert. (unfortunately I couldn't go, way too far away from me) And it seems that it was one of the best shows of the year. My congratulations to you (and also all the other musicians involved) for such a great performance.
Keep posting and stay in our community, who knows, maybe you've got some stuff in common with us.
-
Welcome, Thedabara! :)
We thank you for the great show, you really deserved that ovation. Thank you for your open-minded attitude! Something like that would make the life of us metalheads much more easier.
I'm from Budapest so please let me know about your next concerts, I'm really interested in going to hear your choir again. :)
-
Welcome Thedabara!
It's great to read your impressions from the concert... unfortunately I couldn't make it to the show, but after reading all the comments and reveiws I'm sure it was a night to remember.
Cheers!
Al.

Welcome Thedabara - it´s so nice to read you here! Stay with us *shares some cookies*

Hey Thedabara,
it's great to have you here! :yeha:
Well, that welcome applaud was very touching for me, too. This enthusiastic welcome for the musicians and your reply to that, the smile on your faces and the great expectation in the air... that alone was wonderful! And you really did a great job. Was it a night to remember? For sure! This one is perhaps the best concert I've been to so far, and we will all still think back to it ten years from now and even longer - probably all of our lives.
I wonder... how well did you like rock music or even metal before this event? Do you listen to more music of this kind now, or was it just a one-time event for you? Oh, and singing which song did you enjoy most?
Cheers!

It's good to hear that you all enjoyed the concert.

No, but I hope you're not very disappointed! ;)

Really? In general we perform music from classical composers... Anyway, listen to Mozart, Verdi or Haydn is very uplifting too!

My sister always put on Metallica, Helloween, Anthrax or Testament when I was a child and my brother-in-law plays in a metal band so I'm quite familiar with this type of music but I never listen to it when I'm alone. ::)
I enjoyed singing Via Nocturna very much because it has quite various parts for the choir and its atmosphere reminds me of Pink Floyd' s debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. (PF is my all time favourite band.) I liked Schwarzalbenheim, Clavicula Nox, Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah, Draconinan Trilogy too (almost all of them). :)

Maybe nobody would expect it from metalheads, but I listen to classical music since my childhood. (And I know I'm not the only one here.) I have been singing in the Budapesti Akadémiai Kórustársaság (a choir). Metal is only a one-year old "deviation" of mine, which proves itself to be quite a long-term passion of mine. ^_^

Which metal band does your brother-in-law play in? :wOOt:

Aaah... They give me creeps only by mentioning them. :)

True ^_^ I play classical music a lot (Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi are my favourites), especially when studying.
Anyway, welcome around, Thedabara. :wOOt: Sorry for the late reply!

Ok, I just wanted to know if I've misunderstood you... I have no prejudices! :)

Have you ever heard of Eclipse? They're not too active nowadays, but the band still exists!

I don't know them, but I see that they made their albums available to download from their homepage... when I go home, I'll check it. The link is here (http://www.eclipsemusic.hu/) for you all. :)

Hi Thedabara,
I love astronomical eclipses (have seen three total solar ones and many more lunar eclipses), and I love metal music, so even though I only have a small, slow, unreliable modem I'll check out some songs of your brother-in-law's band. :)
There's something else I wonder about... how does it feel to sing Therion lyrics? Did you care for their meaning, or were they just some words you sang?
Cheers!

*spontaneously gags while looking at the pictures*
I'm afraid to play the video :\
The memory of Therion live is still fresh in my memory and, ye gods, I want freakin' more. Right now I feel absolutely awful (a parallel with a guy gang-raped by a bunch of koalas comes to mind) about not going to Miskolc.
Markus told me so :\
*sigh*
Next time! Oooo-ooooh. Next time.
...
*whimper*
Hey, Thedabara... *gently takes her sleeve and wipes his tears with it*
-
Markus, I envy you for the three total eclipses... I've seen only partial ones yet!
I always care for the lyrics (ok, in most cases... :)) It's good to know what you sing about to be able to perform the essence of music.
In Therion songs there were a few very interesting names I haven't known before: Kingu, Tiamat, Mushussu, Ugalu... ;D By the way, what does Potolo mean?
I regret not performing Adulruna Rediviva, I like its lyrics very much and has good choir parts especially for the girls! ::)
-
Po Tolo means "small star". Here (http://ntsms.megatherion.com/index.php?topic=528.0) is a thread with a lot of useful information. :wink2:
-
Hey Thedabara,
yes, these eclipses were wonderful. Hope to see a few more in due time. :)
And trust us: We all regret that you didn't get to sing Adulruna. :bawl:
Cheers!

Can´t you practise it an add it to the DVD???? (if there is one, of course :))
-
Dear Miskolceans - I miss another picture... didn´t we take one (or some) in the hall after the concert??? I remember we "posed" in front of stage and anyone took a picture... ??? I´ve never seen one

Mmmmhhh... "The Miskolc Experience" is bound to be released this Friday. :wOOt:
I'll try to get my copy from the local metal dealer of my trust. And then I'll see if I can discover one of our Miskolceans.
Cheers!

I wonder if we'll be able to spot a few familiar t-shirts in the crowd. :lol3:
-
I've just pre-ordered it :ninja:
-
:yeha: It's mine! :yeha:
Bought my copy an hoer ago at my favourite local metal store. Now I'm off for our cottage, but I think I'll take my notebook along and give it a first listen.
Cheers!

I suppose it'll arrive next week... with a fantastic signature from Chrisofer Johnsson :evil2:
-
Got it too - already watched it, but I didn´t see any of us :(
-
Oh, that's too bad. :( Markus, can you see someone of us on the DVD?
-
Hi folks,
I haven't had the time to watch it yet. But I don't really expect to see us because I don't remember any cameras pointing at us during the show. Who knows... have you checked the documentation part already? Perhaps we pop up there.
Anyway, we know that we were there. :wicking:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Yes, I have - but no, there are almost no fans visible. Most of the time it shows stage, only view shots to the crowd and especially on our side it was too dark to recognize anyone. In the documentary I didn´t see us too. I´d suggest next time we print our shirts on front not back side - so we´d be more eyecatching :) OH, and yes I´ve seen cameras point at us, one time I even waved to it.
-
I've been informed that some strange package from Therion store has arrived :ninja:
:yeha:
-
I got it too and already gave it its first spin. Fiirst spin meaning that I have never listened to this material before.. not even in Youtube (Man, that was difficult!). I really wanted to be surprised by the finished stuff.
So far, I'm VERY impressed by the quality of the sound. Most of the Therionized classical pieces are really well done, my personal highlights being Notung! Notung! and 'Dies Irae'. The small part of the Dvorák 9th symphony is also very well done... but it's a little bit too short, I wouldn't have mind a extra minute or so (Hey! it's one of my favourite classical pieces) :bye:
Anyway, for the Therion songs, Clavicula Nox is just glorious ... my eyes got watered and everything!
The other songs are also very good, but I found that the band overcomes the orchestra at many key parts (like the ending of Lemuria or during the "dialogue" in the middle of the Grand Finale). Surprisingly I liked more the Miskolcean version of Blood of Kingu than original one :nosweat:
-
Hey Alu,
I much agree with you. I find the classical adaptions just brilliant. "Notung" and "Dies Irae" are among my favourites as well. In the classical pieces I find band and orchestra very well balanced. This is how to merge classics and rock! And "Clavicula Nox"... oh well... no words!
In the Therion pieces you can hear that the choir didn't have enough time to rehearse. They are insecure about the lyrics in some places. The Miskolc version of "Lemuria" is definitely not my favourite version as it lacks my most favourite passage "Call of Narayana...". But "Blood of Kingu" is great, and the Draconian Trilogy is just perfect. I love the original already, but this one, with the better timed lyrics and the additional melody lines is just
Cheers!
Markus
-
Alu, you should have been in the hall for "Clavicula Nox" - there you´d seen many eyes watered :)
-
Yeah, you would have a certain metalhead sitting all stiff, not dring to move even a finger, lest he break down and weep incontrollably... :nosweat:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Btw, who is this guy (seen in the documentary of DVD) looking like a blond Niemann? (the one who says something like "everyone can do it in studio...") ??
-
I've just watched it and felt in love!! I was even headbanging during Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah ;)
oh dear - it's worth to buy it and watch it!
