Hi folks,
I've noticed Lucy's current forum signature, and that reminded me that our signatures are worth a topic of their own.
So let's start with this one: "US banks' balance sheets: "On the left side there is nothing right, on the right side there is nothing left." Love this one, it's just my kind of humour.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Thanks a lot, Markus...
It was one of the "funny spam" we are sending between us, bank workers, on the bank's local email system. :nosweat: Especially funny because of the banks' and insurance companies' problems right now... :innocent:
-
What do You think about my current signature? I found it extremely funny! :lol3: It's about this fashion photo: (very metalish again :wink2:)
Can You see those cuuute cats and the goat?
-
Ha, ha, ha... lol!!! The picture is very funny (the signature too.. when you know the pic ).
Let me add a picture I've found today when working:

-
Nice choice of picture, Lucy.
-
That is so freakishly cute :wOOt:
-
Sweet little bunniessss
-
In the publishing house where I work, a lot of people loves it too... One person who I show the bunnies to = one person who falls in love with them :nana:
-
Hahahah :D Very good one dear Luca!
-
Talking of signatures, Kristina,
what does "שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד" mean? I can see that the tetragrammaton appears twice and that the sentence begins with a "Sh...", but that's as far as I get.
שָׁלוֹם and cheers!
Markus
-
The second word is easy to guess too!
-
The second word is easy to guess too!
Yud - y, or also I
Shin which sounds "sh" or "s"
Resh - r
Aleph - actually a glottal stop, sometimes also a
Lamed - l
Mmmhhh... Yshr´l... Ishr´l... nah...
Israel! :wOOt:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Now, does "Sh'** Yisrael Adonai..." remind You of something? :)
-
Now that you mention it, Lucy,
I think I've read a similar line in one of the books of Mose. Yeah, wait a second... wasn't that 5. Mose 6,4?
Thank you! :)
Cheers!
Markus
-
:wOOt:
Congrats!
-
Luthyyyy! I love the bunnies! I keep calling my bf bunny 'cuz of his teeth  And this picture is perfect for him and me :yeha: *saves it*
 ahhhhh love is great
-
I see that You solved it even without me :D
It's Sh'ma Yisrael Ad*nai El*heinu Ad*nai echad :)
-
I see that You solved it even without me :D
Too much honour, Kris! First I wouldn't have done it without Lucy's guidance and help, and second it's very easy to look educated nowadays, with Google and Wikipedia at hand. ;)
Cheers!
Markus
-
I knew that You would find that out! :) I adore enigmas.
-
I knew that too... You would find out sooner or later on Your own, Markus :)
And it's so easy to have such "enigmatic" signatures nowadays - when I learn Biblical Hebrew and Ivrit :)
-
Dear Sirius,
thank you million times for my fantastic new signature!
BTW it consists exactly in 300 characters so I could insert precisely.
P. S.: :ninja:, and :fish:
-
(http://www.origo.hu/i/0810/20081018heidiklum1.jpg)
Can You see those cuuute cats and the goat?
I can only see that this girl just received a facial
-
Nice signature Lucy :)
ha..I notice the cute little white and back cat..I used to have such a cat..his name was Jimi..
-
Hey panx,
I can only see that this girl just received a facial
I know that being 13 is a difficult age. Some of us manage to get through adolescence with some dignity while others have serious trouble. But here at NTSMS we're willing to help you. So I'll tell you an adult secret: In some places graphic language like yours is considered appropriate, while in others it is not. Hint: Right here you're just making but a fool of yourself.
Cheers, anyway!
Markus
-
A facial is a cosmetic treatment of the face, commonly involving a variety of skin treatments, including: steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, masks, peels, and massage. Normally performed in a beauty salon but it is also a common spa treatment.
She got nice skin. Now stop overreacting because its not me thats making a fool of himself.
-
My signature is a mix of a song and of a book. You may remember Xeper-I-Set of Dissection, and you may remember the book Nightside of Eden of Kenneth Grant.
CXI =111, a number of Set, and also my number using runes.
Salute!
Lava typhoon
-
its not me thats making a fool of himself.
Yes it is. :)
However, I suspect you won't understand why, so I offer you a response that you may be able to grasp:
hey panx she looks just like yor mom after a visit from my sweaty fat dog lol.
etc
Aw bless, you probably think you're on a quest now don't you? that's so sweet.
-
in my signature - the first words from the first song on the Sonata Arctica album called Silence :))
-
Well, what can I tell you? The banner is a little bit of Photoshop, with a pic from Assassin's Creed, a game I was literally addicted to a few months ago. (I should make one for Fallout 3 :lol3:)
As for the text, I came up with it while bitching about my grades in algebra.
-
Hi folks,
my current signature reads: "To create a little flower is the labour of ages."
In case you haven't deciphered it yet, it's to honour three persons: William Blake, who wrote down these words in his inspiring "Marriage of Heaven and Hell", Charles Darwin, who shewed us the scientific truth behind them and whose 200th birthday occured yesterday, and of course our dearest evil Regina Helianthorum.
Cheers!
Markus
-
I'm put in the same level than Blake and Darwin
-
Markus, would you please give some hints about your current signature? :)
-
Sure, Lucy! :)
"Why sleepst thou, Eve? Now is the pleasant time, the cool, the silent..." is a line from Milton's "Paradise Lost". The serpent whispers these words into Eve's ears to wake her up while Adam remains sleeping, then he lures her to the tree of knowledge and talks her into tasting its fruit. These words often come to my mind when I'm in a garden, a park or a grove in a gentle summer night, seeing the silhouettes of the foliate trees against the moonlit sky.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Oooooh
-
Beware the Flower of Chaos!
I find that one very funny and very charming. But then again I'm supposed to do so. :wink2: Thank you, Lucy! :)
Cheers!
Markus
-
Thank you, Markus, but the idea is yours, do you remember? :)
-
Sure I remember, Lucy. :) That's why I'm supposed to like it, and that's why I thanked you for using it.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Now I have to post to see my signature ;D
edit: I don't have any :bawl:

Which is highly philosophical. Obviously you are giving the reader some space for his own thoughts, a little gap, a short pause in all-too-hectic world!
Cheers!
Markus

Which is highly philosophical. Obviously you are giving the reader some space for his own thoughts, a little gap, a short pause in all-too-hectic world!
Yes, that's exactly it, how did you know? :D
-
Markus, what happened to your signature?
-
Well, Lucy,
Jetet will sneeze but nobody will react and say "You sneeze like thunder." - "Perfect! Mind if I quote that?".
The rest of the story remains valid, though. :)
Cheers!
Markus
-
I still don't get it. Anyway. :nosweat:
Kris, what does "Žán, přines mi okno, chci se podívat do zahrady!" mean? All I can guess very wildly is "I want to go to the garden"?
-
Haha, :D You are close! Very very close! Actually You even get some very interesting connections in czech lang... but more later in the evening :) in ten minutes I have to go to catch the bus for my meeting with the doc.
Translated literally it means: Jean, bring me a window, I want to look into the garden! It comes from one famous Czech fairytale my favourite actually. This sentence has even on Like group on facebook
Jean is .... every servant used to be called Jean :D Because it simply was like that in history many times.
-
Ah Žán... I didn't read that aloud.
-
I could have written it in French but it would not sound so geniously absurd :D
-
Markus, I love Your new signature :D
It reminds me so much of my fav comic window:

Thank you, Kris!
We had this short dialogue so often in Barcelona when we were kidding and fooling around.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Jajaja I find very interesting and funny that spanish conversation: ¿Qué? - Nada-. It is so typical and normal that question-answer in spanish that I found it great.
-
Yup, I think Markus and Lucy camouflated so well here that this conversation came easily from them. I think people even asked them for directions in Barcelona :lol3:
-
Ahahaha, the last evening while I was waiting for you at the fountain, an Italian gentleman asked me in Italian in which direction is the Liceu. Forgot to tell you!
And about Qué-Nada: it was always deeply meaningful, accompanied by the appropriate face expressions. -_-
-
And the best thing is that you were able to answer to that, is not so, Lucy?
-
He didn't realize that I wasn't Barcelonian.
-
Is this the first NTSMS strike to my city? :ninja:
-
And maybe not the last.
-
And maybe not the last.
I really hope so :wink2:
-
Indeed the faces and voices are irreplaceable. :wOOt:
And yes, Barcelona should not feel too safe from us, just because we've been there once. There will be other albums, other tours, other gatherings... :ninja:
Cheers!
Markus

We should cook some for the NTSMS members next time. :sofa:

Cousin or cuisine? :D
Yes, definitely, at least our Eastern roots will be clearly visible. -_-

Gulááááššš :wOOt: :wOOt: :wOOt: :wOOt:
-
You would be surprised what does real gulyás look like. :)
-
I just know that if it's not from pork but from pretty clear steak like beef - it must be wonderful taste!
-
You may think of us - as the Auditors.
Kris, I prefer Death over the Auditors! But then again, don't we all?
Cheers!
Markus
-
For one, Death's better with cats ;D
-
I just liked the sentence in the context  I like Death a lot... He's great guy... as well as... Angua and Esme Weatherwax and Lord Downey :) These are my fav characters... but I could not really resist... the Auditors. :ninja:
We will contact You.
We know, where You are... We know, where - everyone IS.
-
I had a dream where i was in a bridge with a lot of redhair women and men, so I deceided to feel very proud of being one and proclaim myself as The red one (rojo in spanish) jaja.
-
How long is your hair now? :)
-
About Your signature One...
"All men are intellectuals, but not all men in society have the function of intellectuals" -Antonio Gramsci
Are You suggesting that some men are simply just drones? (bee drones)
-
It is referring to mankind in general.
We all have the potential and the ability to be intellectuals because even the most monotonous and simple labor takes some forethought and whatnot, we're not just trained brainless monkeys, even if at times we do seem to be like that. However, not everyone in society has the function of being an intellectual - someone who has power and thus influences others. Just as not everyone has the role of being a laborer.
-
How long is your hair now? :)
Right now I look like Dennis the Menace or like the boy in Problem Child movie.
I have the hair exactly like this:

Some explanations of mine ;)
I always use this signature as my personal text. When you see this signature/personal text and this avatar, whatever this guy's name is, it's me :lol3:
"Tlön, Lemuria, צִיּוֹן, Lisboa, Stockholm, Лю́берцы, Venezia."
By these place names and what they mean to me, introduce myself in a concise way :)
Tlön: Borges; Universe; create
Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius I can't decide if it is my favorite short story, but it influenced me most.
Borges is the writer who did surpass language.
Lemuria: (need any explanation?)Therion; myth
צִיּוֹן: religion; history
Lisboa: Fernando Pessoa; introspect
O Livro do Desassossego one of my favorite books.(I love both of the two Chinese versions )
From that I got a new sight of contradictory in spirit.
Stockholm: kent, Nordic music
kent is the first Nordic band I fell in love. And latter I began to adore so many Nordic musicians that I began to learn Swedish :)
Лю́берцы: reminiscent (maybe some politics)
Knowing this place because of Lube. I like their songs because of this reminiscent feeling which is familiar but wasn't experienced in reality.
The whole Moscow had many other meanings to Chinese in political aspect. And talk about politics...it's a bitter issue but can't be avoid to China. State system is something brands a person a whole life time. No matter to think about it or not, everyone is affected.
Venezia: Calvino, memory about hometown
Le città invisibili another favorite book. The first time I read that Marco Polo said, every city he talked about had the pieces of Venice, and Venice is the city he would never talk about. He was afraid of the words would make the memory stiff that finally he would lose his hometown. This part directly impacted my latter writting I think.
-
Of all those, Tlön (toguether with Lemuria) is the one I am more familiar with. I have the luck of being able to read Borges without translators... and I can't think about translating any of his works (which I have all, although not all read yet). They have sooo several meanings, it's so a huge language playing with :afaid:
-
Yes, I think it's difficult to think about another form of masterpiece like these. And about that all I could say is, without the original language form his works are still magic
AND YOU MAKE ME WANT TO LEARN SPANISH TO BE ABLE TO READ THE ORIGINAL VERSION! :evil2:
-
Oh, soon we are going to have loads of polyglots around the forum :wOOt:

Even knowing Spanish, even being Spanish Philologist, even specialising in Literature, you won't be able to understand 1/10000 part of Borges literature (believe me, I KNOW IT :ninja: ). Even though, you can try hard and, at least, have some fun :evil2:
Ah... and about polyglots... almost everybody here is, as almost nobody has English as the mother tongue. Is that not true?
-
I believe. :afaid: I can feel that even through translated version :ninja:
YES! We ALREADY have loads of polyglots! :w00t_jump:
-
Of course we are polyglots! We are able to kill any language of the world perfectly! :wOOt:
-
Do not even ever try to kill any language better than I kill English!!! :ninja: :pop:

I can at least insult people in Spanish and Catalan. -_- Also I believe to know that the German "Tschüs!" ("Bye!") sounds very similar to some Chinese insult along the lines of "Go die!" or "Go to hell".
Monade, thank you for letting us know about your signature! I like it a lot - your personal views, highly encoded. Very Therionish, in a way. :wink2:
Cheers!
Markus
-
I will always admire my father...he is able to be in silence in hundreds of languages.

I can at least insult people in Spanish and Catalan.
I want to be insulted in Spanish and Catalan
Markus, how do you say sorry in German?

Venezia: Calvino, memory about hometown

I do not understand this, could you explain a bit more if it's not a problem?
Ah... and about polyglots... almost everybody here is, as almost nobody has English as the mother tongue. Is that not true?
Sirius 13?
-
Hey OFFy,
I'm not going to insult you but you can get insulted by going to the Barcelona stadium wearing the wrong shirt.
Markus, how do you say sorry in German?
That's "Entschuldigung, bitte" ("Please accept my apopologies") or "Tut mir leid" ("sorry").
Cheers!
Markus

No problem :D
In Calvino Le città invisibili Marco Polo introduced these citied he had traveled to Kublai Khan. At a part which is close to the ending, Kublai Khan asked Marco Polo why he never talked about his hometown Venice. Then answer which had been quetoed above every city he talked about had the pieces of Venice, and Venice is the city he would never talk about. He was afraid of the words would make the memory stiff that finally he would lose his hometown(I translated the meaning from the Chinese Version, I hope I didn't lose any important meaning :ninja:) shock my view of telling stories.
Stories and experiences is part of the teller, the way to tell and thing which was hiden is as much as, if not more than, thing which was revealed.
Writing is a part of my life(well, writing in English is quite another things :-X at least in the current period for me), I have treasured this knowledge from Calvino.
And Venice no doubt refers to hometown and memory of past in this book, which is important to everyone, no matter whether their influence on one is good or not.
So that's the reason I put Venezia in my signature :)
-
Sirius 13?
He, besides speaking an excellent official English, also speaks NTSMS English as a mother tongue.
-
Hey OFFy,
I'm not going to insult you but you can get insulted by going to the Barcelona stadium wearing the wrong shirt.
Hehehe but I only have the correct shirt which I bought at a certain stadium, too bad it was empty when I visited it.
That's "Entschuldigung, bitte"
Thanks, I know that word but didn't know how it's written. I could of course check the Google but I felt I should ask you!
-
So that's the reason I put Venezia in my signature :)
Thanks, it sure is something to think about. I mean I am so attached to my home town, I can't imagine myself living anywhere else but there are so many things that does not work here.
-
What a cuuuuuuute and lovely signature, Eresh! :wOOt: My heart is happy every time I take a look at it. Best wishes! :yahoo:
-
Now I have it too. Thank youuuuu! :huglove:

-
Markus, I find Your signature extremely funny :lol3:
-
Indeed! And I think he must explain us about the situation that lead to that signature, too :fish:
-
Ooops, folks,
I forgot to explain that signature you asked about. Sorry!
I've noticed that just now, as I opened this old thread in order to ask: What does your new signature mean, Kris?
Cheers!
Markus
-
Oh, the exact translation is: All good end badly one day. :)
-
You see, my previous status was very wise :P
I noticed you got a new one, Markus! :-) (old new!)
-
Right you are, Kris,
and still I like your signature because it's not gloomy and because you didn't forget the last three words.
Yeah, I took a new one as well. That song's been playing on my mind a lot recently. :lol3:
Cheers!
Markus
-
Yeah, I took a new one as well. That song's been playing on my mind a lot recently. :lol3:
I remember when Chris asked TS to think about the name of DVD, he said working title was Celebrators of Becoming and majority of us agreed that it should remain that way. :)
-
Oh yeah, I remember that. :)
I love the song and the DVD - but I've got a new signature now, anyway.
Cheers!
Markus
-
Care to explain it? :P
